Q: Does the pedal articulated speed work for forward and reverse?
by Kerry from West Virginia on May 11, 2016

A: Kerry - yes, the foot pedal on the Toro SW4200 (model 74784) is used to control the speed of the mower when traveling in both forward and reverse. The further you press the foot pedal down, the faster the mower will travel.

Q: I have a side hill that is about 10-15 degrees. Would this mower be able to handle mowing it down the sideslope or up and down the hill? The hill is a smaller part of my acre property but want to make sure to get a mower that can handle that hill. Was not sure if the steering wheel compared to the bars made a difference in the control?

Thanks for any input in advance!

by Brandon from Georgia on April 17, 2016

A: Brandon - yes, the steering wheel style zero turn mowers are much more effective for mowing hills and inclines since the front wheels are on a true steering mechanism and don't swivel independently like they would on a lap bar style zero turn. Mowing a hillside or slope is one of the main reasons for choosing a steering wheel style zero turn mower. A slope of 10 to 15 degree's is well within the operating specs for a steering wheel style zero turn. I think one of these would be ideal for what you are describing.
by Jose, Product Expert
Q: They show the 79391 bagger kit for this mower will the exhaust from the muffler melt the bags?
by Jerry from Florida on March 18, 2016

A: Jerry - the exhaust from the muffler should have no impact on the grass collection bags
by Jose, Product Expert
Q: Several of the Toro Zero Turn mowers have 23 or 24HP engines. That seems very high for a riding mower - more like a Kubota (or similar) tractor. Are these suitable for towing big loads or adding attachments? Is there a PTO?
by Kyle from Connecticut on May 20, 2015

A: Kyle - the Toro TimeCutter zero turn mowers are not designed to tow heavy loads. Towing capacity will vary by model, but for the most part, these mowers will not tow more than about 200 to 250 lbs total payload. And none of the zero turns that we sell have a PTO that would power any sort of attachment.
by Jose, Product Expert
Q: HOW HARD IS IT TO CHANGE THE OIL?
by Ed Mclain from Ohio on May 12, 2015

A: Ed - The new Toro V-Twin engine on this mower allows for tool-free oil changes with less mess, so you don't have to be a mechanic to keep on top of your own maintenance. All you have to do is pull the long drain hose out of its holder to let the oil drain, then replace it when you're finished. Tools aren't necessary! The length of the drain hose helps make for less mess, allowing you to aim where you want the used oil to go.

The Toro SW4200 steering wheel zero turn mower offers homeowners an alternative to traditional zero turn mowers. This model combines the maneuverability and time savings of a zero turn mower with the familiar ease of a steering wheel and speed control pedal, much like a car or tractor.

The Toro SW4200 has a 42-inch, twin-blade mower deck that is ideal for mowing areas where compact size is needed. The deck washout port provides quick cleaning underneath the deck when you're finished... more

Great Mower, Cuts Awesome
I am very happy with the mower. It cuts really well even at higher speeds. I went with the steering wheel model due to the slope of my lawn and likelihood that my wife would also be mowing. It was a great decision on both counts. My wife can handle it with ease and it handles the hills very well. This was my first zero turn mower so it wasn't until my second mow that I discovered how to actually engage the zero turn function (yep, I'm an idiot...I don't read owners manuals). When... more

It Sucks!
The steering wheel came off while cutting grass. Yes the steering wheel was torque as directed. The front wheels are so hard to turn, looked for grease fittings but none were to be found. Arms are tired and sore just trying to steer the damn thing after getting the steering wheel back on.
Pros: Couldn't think of one.
Cons: Low Quality, Heavy, Unreliable, Expensive

Great Machine... Shipping Not As Good, But Resolved.
PROS...Machine works awesome, great power. Added mulching Recycler kit. No Complaints on quality.

CONS...Machine arrived with packing crate/pallet damaged. Mower shifted and BOTH rear wheels were FLAT. Impossible to get it to garage and took hours to remedy... Mowers Direct shipped new tire assemblies a week later.

Awesome Lawn Tractor
My new Toro mower is awesome! I have about 1 1/2 acres and this mower rips through it in no time. The ride is a little bumpy so forget about having a beer in the cup holder as it will turn to foam :-). I bought the mulcher kit and it works great but, as another reviewer suggested, make sure you sharpen the blades that come with the kit first before installation.

Also as mentioned by others it was difficult to uncrate (that baby was going nowhere during shipment) and having the lift gate... more

Well Worth It!
Very difficult to take off the crate. Figured out that it was easier just to drive it off, in reverse, than to try and dismantle the skid. Got the mulching kit. Of course the blades were not sharp, even though they were wrapped in several layers of cardboard.

Drove like a dream, cut even better, once I sharpened the blades. Very little amount of grass clippings showing after a run. One important thing to mention, slow down in sharp turns and if you can't, then do a loop turn. Actually fits... more

Perfect Mower For My Property
The mower was delivered in perfect condition and has exceeded my expectations. My yard is uneven and bumpy and has plenty of obstacles to maneuver around. The steering wheel allows for close turning in tight quarters.

I'm 6' 5" and appreciate the ease of getting on and off with the tilt steering wheel. My mowing time is cut from 1 1/2 hours with a push mower to 30 minutes. You do need to be prepared to take some time to uncrate the mower. Part of the fun.
Pros: Easy To Use, I'd Buy It Again, Fast, Exceeded Expectations

Best Mower I Have Ever Owned
I have 2 1/2 acres of mostly sloping land 10 to 15 degrees not counting several ditches, trees and a goat house.
I spent about 1 hour getting familiar with the feel and controls.(Note: If I had mostly flat land I would have spent a lot less time)
After this, I finally felt comfortable enough to tackle what I call "heartbreak hill."

This is a steep bank along a fence line with a sharp turn that has always given me trouble ... even my old Husky zero turn would do burn outs on dry... more

Nice Machine
The mower does a nice job, with lots of power. I did have one problem. On my third tank of gas, I +-stopped to talk to my wife, and the left drive would not release and move.

What I found was the lock nut was missing on that side brake linkage. I replaced it and add another nut to lock it better. I checked the right side lock nut and found it was about to fall off. I tighten and added another nut (double nut).
Pros: I'd Buy It Again, Easy To Use, Features, Fast
Cons: Need To Improve Locknut Design
