  6 Questions
Q: Who fixes the mower while on warranty?
by Chantel from Nebraska on April 26, 2016

A: Chantel - the Honda warranty is a nationwide warranty, so you can take the mower to any Honda authorized service center in your area should warranty repairs ever be required. We have a link at the bottom of our web site for "service centers" if you want to find the closest Honda authorized service center in your area.

Q: Is this mower front or rear wheel drive?
by Jim from California on April 22, 2016

A: Jim - the Honda HRR216 series mowers are rear wheel drive.
by Jose, Product Expert
Q: If you want to discharge the grass, how does that work? Is there a side discharge?
by Brian from Florida on January 22, 2016

A: Brian - on the Honda HRR216 series mowers, the discharge function is through the rear of the mower deck. To discharge clippings to the rear, remove the grass bag and leave the Clip Director lever in the BAG position. The shutter door on the rear of the deck (where the bagger hooks on to the mower) stays slightly open, and the grass clippings are discharged out from there.

Q: What is the cost of the leaf shredder attachment
by Dan from Alabama on May 10, 2015

A: Dan - the current model HRR216 series Honda mowers (K9) have a re-designed mower deck that does not accommodate a leaf shredder attachment. If you have a 2013 or older Honda HRR216 mower (K1 thru K8 in your model number), then the leaf shredder attachment will fit up to your mower: leaf shredder
by Jose, Product Expert
Q: What does 4-in-one stand for?

by Jacob from Colorado on August 05, 2013

A: Jacob - a 4-in1- mower has the capability to bag, mulch or discharge grass clippings, as well as shred leaves in the fall if you require this functionality. The leaf shredding attachment is not included and would have to purchased separately: leaf shredder
by Jose, Product Expert
Q: I'm trying to decide on self propelled or not. Will this mower let you push without using the transmission? In other words when I get to the end of a row can I turn around at my own pace or do I have to have the wheels engaged? Also, what about pushing it into the garage for storage, would it have to be running?
by Tim from Arkansas on March 08, 2013

A: Tim - the Honda HRR216VKA does allow you to disengage the drive system and simply push the mower if you choose to. You would release the Smart Drive control on the top of the handle to disengage the drive. You can then push the mower around. This is actually recommend when mowing around trees and other obstacles
for better directional control.

Best Mower Ever! Go With The Honda!
I have never purchased a new mower. I've always owned someone else's hand-me-down or someone else's garbage that I had to fix to use. For the past 10 years, I've had a landscaper do it for me...

As we all know, you have to manage these folks as they get sloppy. I got tired of it and started researching mowers...Honda, Husqvarna, Cub Cadet, Toro, etc., on and on.

I bought this mower a few days ago. Got tired of the research and decided to go with my gut.

This evening, I finally got... more

Not Good For Mulching
I borrowed my friend's Honda and it had a part you inserted when you mulched. I bought mine 2 years later And they changed the design to a lever for mulching or bagging. Terrible design. It leaves clippings all over the lawn. Won't buy another one.

Powerful Mower
This is a powerful self-propelled mower. Since it was bought to replace a 20+ year old Lawn Boy, which finally gave up the ghost, I was surprised to find that there was a key feature that seemed inferior to the much older mower. It seems that there is no throttle to regulate the speed of the motor - it is always at full power. Since this is a self-propelled unit, if you squeeze the control lever that engages the drive, it leaps ahead faster than a comfortable walking pace - more like a trot!... more
Pros: Quiet, High Quality, Easy To Store
Cons: Should Have Come With The 3in1 Side Grass Chute, No throttle control

Don't Need The $750 190cc, This 160 Has A Heart Of Gold
Originally was concerned that this mower would be under powered compared to the more expensive 190's, but its not. Starts every time on the first pull, and won't bog in heavy wet grass. Doesn't leave clumps of mulched grass behind.

Only downsides are she's a heavy weight ( 99 lbs) and the abruptness of the variable speed drive takes getting used to. Have had bad repercussions from cleaning our Toro with the water hose connections, so far haven't needed to clean this one. She is kinda hard... more

Good Mower
I read a few negative reviews, but went with Consumers Report recommendation, and for the money, I am extremely happy so far. For $409, two-blade cutting is visibly better, sucks up leaves and stickes better than the Briggs & Stratton we had, and the bag collects so much and doesn't drop the cuttings when removing the bag. Handles well. Only wish it had cut a wider path.

Won't Pull Backwards!
Bought it in April of 2015, great mower, Starts on first pull, mulches great, picks up leaves great, but the darn thing simply will not pull backwards due to the rear drive wheels locking up. I took it back to the dealer once and they said that debris got in behind the drive wheels locking the gears in the wheels. I mowed with it once after getting it back and it worked great, put it away and when I went to pull it out of the shed it wouldn't roll backwards! I am taking it back tomorrow and... more

Self Propelled Has Never Worked Right From Day One...
I bought the lawn mower 3 years ago at (HD) and the first one I took back and it took an act of god for them to replace a 2 week old mower but they did. The reason I took it back was the self propelled part of the mower did not work. A year later same thing.. This time I put the mower in the shop and paid for it my self seeing how Honda would NOT stand behind there product. Now the 3rd year same thing self propelled system not working again. I take very good care of this lawn mower and to pay... more

Just The Best!
This is my third year with this Honda and it still starts the first time. My neighbors can't figure out why my lawn looks so well after being mowed. Comes with a great manual. I'm not too mechanical, but I change oil, clean the air filter, and I'm getting ready to replace the blades.

Mulching Leaves: My yard is surrounded by 50-year old trees so I get tons of leaves. This Honda just eats them up and spits them out as finely mulched leaves. I used to have to rake my yard several times in... more

Fun To Mow The Lawn Again.
Replaced my 22 year old Lawnboy with this. I couldn't wear the Lawnboy out and finally gave it up to a relative.

I love the easy to fold down handle for storage in my small garage. Starts 1st pull 90% of the time. No choke is very nice. Make sure you fully release the paddle when pulling mower back or the wheels will lock. Quieter then the Lawnboy I had but not surprisingly quiet. Does seem to clump a lot underneath the deck but once I got WD40 applied after the first 2 or 3 clean outs its... more

What A Treat
Bought this a couple weeks ago and immediately used it on a small "orchard" - first mowing of the season. Grass was 8-14 inches tall. I set blade height to 3" and mowed the whole area (2000 sq ft) without bogging down.

At one point I unknowingly got the starter cord caught under a sharp-edged piece of metal on the frame and in three pulls, shredded the cord. "Damn!" I thought, "there goes a half-hour to replace it". No! It was three perfectly... more

Worst Mower Ever!
Purchased this mower almost 3 years ago, SEP 2010. I have spent over $200 in repairs, which Honda says is basic maintenance, not covered under warranty. This does not include the new transmission that was put on it. Fortunately, that was under warranty. Problem is, the rear wheels lock up sporadically when I attempt to pull it backwards to turn around. Took it to a Honda licensed repair shop numerous times. Last time it was there, the owner said he did exactly what Honda Tech support told... more
