Q: Parts availability to replace the clutch control cable for HRR216 Honda lawn mower.
by John Widdifield from North Carolina on July 04, 2016

A: John,

Unfortunately we do not specialize in parts. I would recommend reaching out to a local Honda service center, as they should be able to better assist you. You can locate your nearest Honda service center using the service center locator I have linked here for you.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Who fixes the mower while on warranty?
by Chantel from Nebraska on April 26, 2016

A: Chantel - the Honda warranty is a nationwide warranty, so you can take the mower to any Honda authorized service center in your area should warranty repairs ever be required. We have a link at the bottom of our web site for "service centers" if you want to find the closest Honda authorized service center in your area.

Q: If you want to discharge the grass, how does that work? Is there a side discharge?
by Brian from Florida on January 22, 2016

A: Brian - on the Honda HRR216 series mowers, the discharge function is through the rear of the mower deck. To discharge clippings to the rear, remove the grass bag and leave the Clip Director lever in the BAG position. The shutter door on the rear of the deck (where the bagger hooks on to the mower) stays slightly open, and the grass clippings are discharged out from there.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: What is the cost of the leaf shredder attachment
by Dan from Alabama on May 10, 2015

A: Dan - the current model HRR216 series Honda mowers (K9) have a re-designed mower deck that does not accommodate a leaf shredder attachment. If you have a 2013 or older Honda HRR216 mower (K1 thru K8 in your model number), then the leaf shredder attachment will fit up to your mower: leaf shredder
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Thanks for the answer about the leaf shredder. One more question: Is there no side discharge chute?
by Gerald Dixon from New York on November 03, 2014

A: Gerald - the Honda HRR216PKA does not have a side discharge opening in the mower deck. If you wish to discharge your grass clippings instead of bagging them or mulching them, the clippings would discharge out of the rear of the mower with the shutter door on the rear of the mower deck serving as the discharge cover for the opening.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: What does 4-in-one stand for?

by Jacob from Colorado on August 05, 2013

A: Jacob - a 4-in1- mower has the capability to bag, mulch or discharge grass clippings, as well as shred leaves in the fall if you require this functionality. The leaf shredding attachment is not included and would have to purchased separately: leaf shredder
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: I've narrowed the search down to Honda, but can't determine the difference between this model and the HRR216K7PDA.

I'm really looking for easy and efficient bagging. I don't want to empty the bag as often as my old mower and hope to find a model that doesn't let as much grass clog inside the deck - actually getting grass into the bag.

Am I on the right track with these two models?

by Joel S from New Jersey on May 28, 2012

A: Joel - the Honda HRR216PKA and the Honda HRR216PDA are pretty much the same mower. The HRR216PKA is the 2012 model; the HRR216PDA is the 2011 model. The differences between the two mowers are mostly cosmetic - functionally, both mowers will perform the same. The HRR216PKA does have a new rear discharge design for improved bagging performance, which sounds like it is an important factor to you, so that's the model I would recommend between the two.

Very Happy With This Purchase And Mowers Direct
I purchased this for my daughter and wanted a quality product from a trusted brand. Unfortunately, in this day and age, there is so much cheap garbage on the market in the $250 range that is of such poor quality, you are forced to spend $420 for a dependable, well-built walk behind (non self-propelled) mower.

That said, the mower arrived very quickly (thanks Mowers direct) and in perfect condition. Setup was simple, and I walked my non-technical daughter through the online videos... more

Good Build Quality, Poor Cut
As Dale C stated below. I am on my third season with this mower. It starts easily, cuts heavy, thick, wet grass with ease. However, it does leave a long strip of grass on most cuts. It seems to cut heavier thick, grass better. But, as the summer heats up and the grass thins the problems begin.

I'm only using half the deck to cut each pass. This allows the overlap to cut the strip of grass it misses (sometimes the mower still has strips uncut). I sharpen the two blades often and it... more

This Is A Great Lawnmower
This is a very high quality lawnmower. I wanted a lawn mower that would last and this is a very solid built lawn mower and appears to be built very well. The reviews I read before buying this lawnmower stated that the lawnmower was heavy. I thought that was probably the owner not being very strong, but I must agree that this lawn mower is very heavy to push. It starts right up every time and does a great job cutting and mulching and I think it is very well made. I have only had this for a... more

Solid
Mowers Direct got it to me just as fast as other online retailers with free shipping and for $20 less. - 5 stars

The only feature drawbacks are the lack of the option for side discharge, and the handle is a little low (but I am about 6'1"). Those are not enough to make me at all unhappy with my purchase. It mulches well and the bagging feature leaves the lawn quite clean. It is very easy to start it on the first pull every time.

I'll know more about the value later, but if you change... more

Pricey, But Worth It
I've used my mower three times now. Other than being a bit heavy, I love it. The start is near effortless. It plows through grass, and the mulching option leaves no clumps behind. No more bagging until leaves drop in the fall. Assuming it lasts and remains dependable, it is well worth the price.

Honda Hrr216pka (21") 160cc 3-in-1 Push Lawn Mower
The mower was just as the other reviewers described. Great performance and built with quality parts. The mower started with one pull the very first time. I thought for sure that it would take 5-6 tries to get it started. The one thing that doesn't work perfectly is the lever to move from bagging to mulching. It just doesn't move smoothly between the two positions, almost like it's getting hung up on something, but it does get to the two positions with a little perseverance. Not that it's a show... more

Best Mower I Have Owned Over 33 Years Of Mowing
I took a full year to pick out my next mower. I considered Toro, Cub Cadet, Husqvarna and then Honda. I truly thought I wanted something with a Honda engine. I could get that on a mower built by a separate company but I kept thinking a Honda thru-and-thru would be my best choice. I didn't need all the bells and whistles. My lawn is flat and I've worked out for 10 years straight. Pushing a mower is no problem. I don't need a blade clutch. I rarely have to leave the mower after I have started. I... more

Upgraded to this mower because my old MTD died. Got the push version with the philosophy of simpler is better - didn't want any additional self propelled features that might go bad. Overall I am pleased with the purchase. Mower starts on one pull as advertised. I've used it twice so far and the cut is good. Product has a nice hefty feel to it and build quality looks good. I will say that the mower is a bit on the heavier side so this will give one a workout after a while. I'll have to... more

No Side Eject, Not Great For Thick Grass
Unfortunately I didn't realize this mower doesn't have a side eject. I figured with quality and ingenuity of Honda, they would've figured out how to make a mulcher handle even the thickest grass, so prob no big deal. Unfortunately, it failed. Your options are - leverage small bag and constantly stop and dump it or, get it so bogged down from thick grass that you end up having to stop and clean it out. On my 1/4 acre yard, I usually stop about 8-10 times to empty the bag. I would return it, but... more

Joel,
If you're mower is having trouble with thick grass, you may be cutting to low. Try cutting at a higher setting and mowing more often.

Manufacturer Response
Brand Rep
Joel,
Joel: Robert@Honda here...in addition to PED's suggestions, try a slightly narrower swath, to allow the twin blades a bit more 'cushion;. Ideally, cutting no more than 1/3 of the desired height can help too. It is also critical the engine/blades are spinning at the maximum rated RPM, so you may want to have a nearby Honda dealer double-check. Slow turning blades will shred (not cut) the grass, and result in less than optimum finish and cut quality, Here's a link to locate the nearest servicing dealer in your area: http://powerequipment.honda.com/dealer-locator -Robert@Honda

Unfortunately Disappointed
I bought this mower based on the many reviews that stated how well it cuts grass, that is why I was buying it. Many comments specifically stated that this mower did not leave any grass uncut, there were no long pieces when you looked at what you just mowed. Well that was not the case for me. While mowing when I look at areas just cut there are strips of long grass, or sometimes just a handful of uncut blades, and I have to go over them again. Very disappointed.
Pros: starts easily
Cons: does not cut all grass, pieces missed
