Q: How do you sharpen blades on a reel mower?
by Tammy from California on June 10, 2011

A: Tammy - we sell a reel mower blade sharpening kit reel mower sharpening kit This is probably the easiest way to sharpen your reel mower blades if you want to do it yourself.

Q: Hi there, I am interested in buying a reel lawn mower and donít know which one to buy. I live in South Florida (Miami). I donít want to spend money on gas and I definitely donít like fumes. I heard our grass down here is difficult to cut with reel lawnmowers and wanted to know which one you would recommend. Thanks again.
by Antonio from Florida on June 10, 2011

A: Antonio - If you live in South Florida, chances are your lawn is a St. Augustine type of grass. And yes, this is some of the toughest grass to cut with a reel mower. If you have a thick grass like a St.Augustine, a Zoysia, or a Bermuda, you are going to need a heavier weight reel mower to plow through the thicker blades of grass, and that means it's going to be harder to push. I would recommend the Fiskers Momentum reel mower. Fiskars reel mower The Fiskars weighs more than a conventional reel mower, but the forward position of the reel and the versa-cut height adjustment will probably give you the best performance when it comes to managing thick grass like you have.

Q: Does this mower work well on tall grass?
by Andy from California on May 28, 2011

A: Andy - reel mowers are really designed to cut grass that is less than 3 inches tall. Since you are providing the "horsepower" for a reel mower, you will find it more difficult to mow tall or thick grass.

Q: In what country are the Greenworks reel mowers made?
by Nancy from Pennsylvania on May 25, 2011

A: Nancy - the Greenworks reel mowers are manufactured in China.

Q: I have a small front and back yard and I've been contemplating getting this kind of mower over a gas mower. Do these things really cut grass as well as any other mower and how often do you have to sharpen the blades?
by Mary Zepeda from Oklahoma on May 01, 2011

A: As long as you keep the blades sharpened, these can cut just as good as other mowers. It can be tough if you have Bermuda grass, because it grows in tangles, but for a regular grass, this is not too bad.

Sharpening blades is something to be done pretty often, but it also depends on how often you need to mow as well.

Q: What manual mower would you recomend for ease of use?
by Bill Straser from Rhode Island on April 29, 2011

A: Thanks for your inquiry. The Greenworks brand is about as easy as it gets. IT has a 4 year warranty and I'm sure will give you exactly what you are looking for.

Greenworks Push Reel Mower
I am so disappointed in this mower. I bought it so I could save energy and loose a little weight in the time being, but the mower did not correctly mow the lawn. It left long pieces of grass and chopped the others. I have to go and chop the long pieces with the works edger. I didn't send it back because I could not afford another one. The grass catcher is also a problem, does not fit correctly and keeps falling off, so I don't use it. I tried fixing all these problems but couldn't. ... more
Pros: Durable, Light Weight

Mowing with a reel mower can be a chore at times as we know. In some instances it is a simple adjustment which can make all the difference, in other cases the blades need to be sharpened. The issue we will sometimes run into is the grass is just too long for the initial cut. The unit you have comes with a 4 year warranty and your issue may be something more than it not being able to cut. We would suggest giving Greenworks a call and seeing if you can trouble shoot any of this and if something is wrong with the mower, it would likely be covered under the warranty, especially with the grass catcher not fitting, there could be a slight issue with the configuration or a flaw in the bag connection causing it to not stay on. We have provided the number Greenworks below if you would like to give them a call.
