how long do the blades last before they have to be sharped, because I called around and can't find anyone that sharpens the blades for a reel mower
Jennifer
from Oklahoma
May 01, 2011
Answer
Jennifer - the blades on a reel mower should be sharpened after every 50 - 60 uses, so under normal use, the blades should be sharpened every year or two. Sharpening the blades on a reel mower is not that difficult. We sell a sharpening kit from American Lawn Mower - the SK1-BP - that will work on most brands of reel mowers. This kit uses a sharpening paste that you spread on the blades to sharpen them. And if you don't want to tackle this task yourself, try calling a business that does knife sharpening. Some of these businesses will also sharpen reel mower blades.
