  9 Questions
Q: Several of the Toro Zero Turn mowers have 23 or 24HP engines. That seems very high for a riding mower - more like a Kubota (or similar) tractor. Are these suitable for towing big loads or adding attachments? Is there a PTO?
by Kyle from Connecticut on May 20, 2015

A: Kyle - the Toro TimeCutter zero turn mowers are not designed to tow heavy loads. Towing capacity will vary by model, but for the most part, these mowers will not tow more than about 200 to 250 lbs total payload. And none of the zero turns that we sell have a PTO that would power any sort of attachment.

Q: What kind of drive motors on the SS5000 50" Toro zero turn mower
by Dean from Colorado on May 10, 2015

A: Dean - the Toro 74631 TimeCutter uses dual Hydro Gear EZT hydrostatic transmissions
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: What hydro drive system does the ss5000 have? I know the MX 5060 has the 2800 series. There is no mention of the durability or model of transaxles for the ss5000 or ss5060. How are the transmissions different on the ss5000 models compared to the mx5060 model.
Thanks

by Tom from Illinois on August 13, 2014

A: Tom - both the Toro SS5000 and the SS5060 use the ZT2200 transmission, also known as the EZT.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Was looking at Toro lawn mowers SS5000 series and Toro series SS5060. Besides the price, one being $400.00 more than the other what are the difference between these two machines?
by John Mccleary from South Carolina on November 07, 2013

A: John - the Toro SS5060 (74632) is basically the same mower as the SS5000, but it is a full-featured model with a number of added accessories that are not included on the SS5000 model. The SS5060 includes an engine guard, a foot-assisted height of cut adjustment pedal, an anti-vibration floor mat, an hour meter and armrests as standard equipment. These would all be "extra" on the SS5000. The SS5060 also has a premium grade, extra tall contoured seat. The seat on the SS5000 is the standard extra tall seat.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Just ordered a Toro TimeCutter zero turn mower. What type gas does it use? regular or supreme?
by John Strickland from Florida on November 02, 2013

A: John - you should use regular grade 87 octane gas. The higher grade gas is just a waste of money - it will not improve engine performance. Also, make sure the regular grade 87 octane gas you use does not have an ethanol content of more than 10%.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Looking for rear engine guard for a Toro 50" Timecutter ss5000 model 74631
by Ron from Maine on October 05, 2013

A: Ron - sorry, but Toro does not offer a rear engine guard that is compatible with the 50-inch, SS series TimeCutter zero turn mowers.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Is the floor plate removable in order to have easy access to the center blade spindle and belt maintenance?
by James Griffin from Texas on June 29, 2013

A: James - the floor plate is NOT removable on any of the Toro TimeCutter zero turn mowers, including the SS5000.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: How is this mower cleaned?

by Jim Thompson from Wisconsin on June 27, 2013

A: Jim - there is a deck wash out port on the mower deck that allows you to connect a garden hose and spray the underside of the deck with water if you wish to clean it in this fashion.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Does the Toro SS5000 50in mow in reverse?
by Mike from Michigan on June 10, 2013

A: Mike - yes, the Toro SS5000 will mow in reverse.

Great Mower For A Great Price!
I mow about 3 acres with this mower. It takes me about two hours to mow this area. I am even able to mow the very tall grass with this mower. Love the zero turn, so easy to go around tress, bushes, and other obstacles. I would highly recommend this mower, and you cant beat the great price from www.mowersdirect.com, I tried. Best price out there. Free shipping was great, and was shipped quickly and securely!
Pros: Easy To Use, Price, Fast, I'd Buy It Again

Love This Mower
I purchased this mower in January 2015 from Home Depot. Had a problem with order, which they corrected. Mower came much earlier than expected ,was delivered by A-Z and very professional delivery guy explained everything. I had never operated. thanks

Great Mower
I purchased this to replace an old 30" Snapper. I have several tight spots in my yard and was concerned about the 50" cut. I do have to weed eat a little more but everything else is much faster and makes up for the extra time spent weed eating. I have been using it all summer and have had no problems at all.

The only issue I have had is with the rigid deck not adjusting when I mow my ditch. Most other mowers will have enough give in the deck to adjust to the changes in terrain but... more

"Mowers Direct was good to work with and the purchase saved me hundreds of dollars. I had to wait a few weeks for the check to clear and the shipper to get it to me but I had more time than money. I did have an issue with the shipper (SAIA) but that was no fault of Mowers Direct. SAIA got my order at their New Orleans distribution center and it sat on their dock for over a week. I arranged to be at home for the delivery and got a call that they forgot it and it would be another week before they could get to me. After a few choice words, they delivered the mower that evening."

Be Informed Before Buying This Toro Or Any Other Toro Product
I have been using a John Deere mower over the past 12 years, and was never happy about the way it cut grass. This Toro came in excellent time and condition and there is nothing I have found to complain about the machine itself. It cuts as smooth as a golf course, in half the time, and far less gas. However if anything goes wrong with the Toro I have found that I will be up a creek without a paddle! Toro warranty has to be done at a Toro authorized facility, and my local Toro dealership... more

Very Disapointed
Sold a perfectly good Cub Cadet Tractor to get this Zero Turn for my wife who does the mowing. Bought from Home Depot and tried getting some feedback from them on the operational issues but worthless. Could not go up a 5-10 degree grade in high gear. Would not track properly. Finally had to take to Authorized Dealer when the thing literally would not go forward. They said the unit was badly out of adjustment. All three of the blade spindles are shot with 108 hours of service. Am... more

Lemon From Day One
Have had to replace starter, deck bounces off very easily then belts come off. Used only non ethanol gas, line into gas tank broke off. Have had to replace solenoids twice. Tires on front won't stay aired up. Have to take to shop every time I use it. Consider it junk to keep working on. Too expensive to buy another. Wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
Pros: Easy To Use
Cons: Low Quality, Unreliable, Durability, Wouldn Buy Another Toro Product Have Had To Replace Starter Us

This Toro Is Great
This 50" Toro ZTR cuts like a dream and is fast. I mow 1 and 5 acre properties and it does great. It takes less than 2 hours to mow the 5 acres. This mower replaces a 13 year old 42" zero turn that the deck finally rusted out on, but still runs good, just no deck. This Toro is much more heavy duty. I read some of the reviews where some people were complaining about how difficult it was to remove from the box. I just can't figure out what they were doing that they thought it was... more

Great Mower
Yes, as one reviewer wrote, uncrating the mower is extremely difficult. That said I suspect it would have been difficult for me to bring it home from a store too. If you don't have a few friends that can help you get it off the pallet then pay for the white glove service and I'll bet the uncrating would be part of that.

Otherwise the mower is great. I did need to top off the oil after the first mow and am scheduled to change the oil now after using the mower 5 times (just to clean out any... more

Needs Optional Hour Meter On It When You Buy It.
Great mower. It needs the hour meter on it from the start. I just ordered the optional hour meter at almost $100.00 with shipping and tax. This is the only mower that I looked at that didn't have one on it. I would have bought another brand of mower with it already on it .Otherwise I would recommend this mower.
