Q: Does installing the mulching kit on the Toro TimeCutter SS4235 increase the final operating width more than the stated specification of 43.5"? by Jim from Colorado on June 22, 2011
A: Jim - the mulch kit on a Toro SS series TimeCutter zero turn mower mounts totally on the inside of the mower deck, so the mulch kit would not have any effect on the overall width of the mower. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Are the arm rests an add on the the seat already in place? Can they be added at a later date? by ELJ from New York on June 05, 2011
A: Yes, the arm rests are an optional accessory on the Toro TimeCutter SS5000 (74630). These can be ordered and attached to the seat at any time. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Does the Toro Zero-Turn mower SS5060 (50 in deck, 24 HP) pivots in the front? by Paul from Maryland on May 28, 2011
A: Paul - the two front wheels on this mower swivel 360 degree's. The control levers control the drive speed of the rear wheels, so if you want to turn to the left, the right rear wheel rotates faster than the left rear wheel, which causes the mower to turn to the right. The front wheels both swivel to make this turn even sharper. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Todd, can I install snow plow for snow removal? by FAZ MOHAMED from New York on May 22, 2011
A: These models would not be able to handle a snow plow attachment. You can do this on bigger units, but not the TimeCutter models.

Q: For Toro would you suggest for landscrapers just starting out? by Kevin Schnug from New York on May 16, 2011
A: This is going to depend. In overall longevity and multiple properties to yards. You really would want to bump up to something a little more durable over time. Another factor to keep in mind would be your size. If you have to get through any gates, you may want to go with something smaller than 50". Most gates are not going to be able to take anything bigger than a 42" and sometimes you may need smaller.
I have had some landscaping guys use Timecutters in the past, but they just don't stand up over time to the overall abuse they can take over time.

Q: How Does the warranty work with ordering a mower on line. I know that it has a 3 year warranty but were do you take the mower if it does have problems? by Jesse from Michigan on May 15, 2011
A: Jesse - if your Toro mower requires warranty service during the warranty period, you can take the unit to any authorized Toro service center or Toro dealer. If the issue is specifically with the engine, you can also take the unit to an authorized Kawasaki dealer or service center, as they honor the warranty for the engine only. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: What does the free delivery include? How do I get it off the truck? by Bob from Pennsylvania on May 01, 2011
A: Bob - Free delivery is just that. We will deliver the mower to your home (or business) address for free. No additional charge. Standard delivery gets this mower to the street in front of your house or business. The driver will move the mower to the tail of the truck, but you are responsible to get the mower off the truck and down to the ground.
Most customers who purchase one of these mowers for home delivery opt for the lift gate service. With this option, the truck that delivers your zero turn mower will have a lift gate on the back of the truck. The driver will move the mower to the tail of the truck, put it on the lift gate and lower it to the ground. Some of the drivers may even help you move the mower up your driveway and into your garage or wherever you want the mower placed. But this is up to each individual driver - this is NOT part of the lift gate delivery fee. You would also be responsible for un-crating your zero turn mower as well. The delivery driver does not do this either. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Why does the Toro zero turn mowers have no zert fittings for the front spindles? Thanks by Roy from Arkansas on April 25, 2011
A: Honestly, it would be because of cost. The TimeCutter unit is going to be their lowest cost mower and this would be viewed upon as being an added cost feature. Toro would view this as a commercial type option.

Q: I'm debating between the SS5000 and SS5060. I have an acre of lawn. I'd prefer to mulch when I cut. I could care less about the foot assist, arm rests, and anti-vibration mat but I'm wondering if the 24HP KAW would be a better choice than the 22HP on the SS5000. by David A from Ohio on April 22, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. Between the two the one with the Kawasaki engine is the best choice. The Kawasaki is one of the better more dependable engines you will find. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Is the foot assist standard on this model? by Kenny Scott from Maryland on April 07, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. The foot assist is not standard on this model. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Hi, what's the clearance needed on a trailer needed for the toro 5000? I have 53 inches, wasn't sure if the spec measurements of 54.5"w included the plastic side discharge guide which I assume adds 4-6", no? Thanks. by Lary from Kansas on March 21, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. That measurement does not include the chute. If your opening is 53 inches this mower would not fit through that opening. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Which would you recommend? The Toro 5000 or the Troy Bilt Mustang? by Dan Lieberman from Maryland on March 10, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. I would definitely recommend the Toro TimeCutter SS5000 based on two main features. The first is the Toro is equipped with a 22-HP Kawasaki V-Twin OHV Engine. This engine gives you ultimate performance and durability for your mower. The other feature is Toro's Exclusive Smart Speed Control System. This system gives you the ability to choose different speed ranges with the flip of a lever along with more precise control for the driver. These two great qualities seperate this mower from the Troy Bilt.

Q: The picture for the Toro SS5000 shows arm rests. Do arm rests come with the mower? by Morris Ware from Alabama on March 10, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. The arm rests for this mower are sold seperately. by Todd, Product Expert

Painless purchase, excellent mower
My first zero turn. Like others I was a bit hesitant to order such a large purchase online, but the cost savings along with the positive reviews of mowersdirect.com convinced me to take the chance. I couldn't be happier with this decision. A pre-purchase call to customer service and a separate email were both promptly and adequately answered. I placed the online order on a Monday afternoon and the mower was delivered (to New York) on Thursday midday.
I would recommend the lift gate service -- no way I could get the thing off of the semi. The crate is substantial and took me about an hour to get the beast out by prying most of the 2x4s and cutting a few select others that the were bracing the wheels. Hooked up the battery, seat bracket, the control arms, checked the oil (it was full) and gassed it up and it was ready to go (engine started right up no problem).
The mower itself if fantastic! I cut 2.7 acres that is perhaps a bit more hilly than should be for a zero turn, but after a little practice I was flying along and felt comfortable going up down and across. What used to take me 3.5 hours with my 46" Craftsman garden tractor, now takes just under 1.5 hours (this is even using the low speed). The seat is comfortable and I don't feel the need (at least yet) to get the arm rests. I was worried a bit about the size of the 22 hp engine being sufficiently powered to take on my hill -- it does bog down a bit going up with the PTO engaged but nothing that would significantly slow me down.
Would most highly recommend. Saved me about $500 from purchasing it (or an equivalent mower) from a local toro dealer or Lowes.

Great Decision
I purchased my Toro using the pay by check method which is a good deal if you don't mind waiting a few extra days. Mower was delivered and I was able to unpack it without much issue. From there it was: 1. Connect the battery, 2. Hook the seat to the frame, 3. add oil and gas and start cutting. I generally like to do business with Local Business owners but with the Mowers Direct price, I couldn't justify it this time. I'm very pleased with my Mowers Direct experience. Thanks.

Great mower
Received mower, removed it from crate and started mowing, really wish it had an hour meter.

Not Bad
I'm used to a John Deere Zero Turn, 54". That mower does cost more, bogs down less and is faster. For the price, this mower does what i expect. I have 2.5 acres, hilly, uneven, not ideal for a zero turn, but I've gotten used to them.

Bad from the factory?
Did a bunch of reviews and based on the fact this replaces the previous Timecutter model (Z series which got good reviews from many sources) I decided to get this one. Ordered on Apr 25 and received it Apr 28, so at the least Mowersdirect delivers fast.
Like others mention, it is packed pretty well and will take some time to unpack (I decided I can always use cardboard so I didn't cut it up like crazy as recommended by the box and instead took out all the staples and broke down the wood struts). Lift gate service is probably a good idea considering the weight of this beast. Interesting thing to note, the carrier who brought it to my house, however stated all their trucks have lift gates, but for the minor fee, it's probably better not to risk going without.
When I received it, the grass on my two acre lot was knee-high and this mower had no problems cutting it down. The blades were sharp from the factory and performing the deck leveling did not take long. The clippings were actually not bad considering how tall the grass was, so the blades must definitely be running fast (although I can't measure if they really go 18k rpm tip to tip).
The problem that I had from the beginning though is that it does not move all that fast. By the end of cutting the two acres, it felt like I was crawling and moved just slower than my old back-up riding mower (which is probably undersized for the lot as it takes up to 8 hours, thus this purchase). I called customer service because the issue was the right wheel was not moving as fast as the left.
Customer service stated to try performing some adjustments to it which I got from their website. So I follow the instructions and jack it up so the rear wheels are off the ground, check the speed and both seem fine. I try the adjustments anyway and the problem persists. I gave up for the day and decided to come back to it later. The next day I come out and see some liquid below the right hydro. Sure enough it seems to be oil has leaked out. Checking the hydros, the left is clean and dry, but the right one seems to be leaking from somewhere on top or middle of the hydro. Of course at this point, I have to call the local service center and have them check it out and I explain that I suspect something is leaking. As of today (Jun-01-2011) it has been at the service center for three weeks because the part is backordered with no ETA and I have used the mower a total of one time.
To be honest, I suspect the mower might have been fine if all the parts were fine from the factory. Unfortunately, I bet testing phases of the mower have it off the ground when testing the hydros as the oil leak only seemed to be apparent when placed on the ground providing resistance against the hydros. Also from research, the hydros seem to be HyrdoGear ZT-2200 (EZT). The upside is that it's supposed to be a 1" axle, but seems to be considered more consumer grade and not as durable as the sturdier brothers ZT-2800ZT-3100 which you start to find on entry level commercial mowers.
Due to this huge flaw I cannot really give this a high rating based on the fact that really there shouldn't be any defects from a new product. Even if you do receive one of the small percentage that is not 100% okay, there should be absolutely no reason for parts to be backordered already for several weeks. Working in a productservice industry, if my company ever had parts backordered, they rush to get more out or pull from a different depot. This long of a backorder implies either the hydro is flawed and thus they are repairing a lot of them or that Toro is pushing them on new mowers and forgoing customers who need repair in order to sell more mowers.
Not everyone is going to have a backup mower which means that most people would either need to pay a service or borrow another mower until their new purchase returns from service. The one star rating is more for MowersDirect speedily sending out the mower and if I could, I would give the mower zero stars (may change my mind IF my mower ever comes back from service!)

Excellent cut
The mower arrived in excellent packing with no damage. I am pleased with the performance and excellent cut. The only problem that I experienced was one of the front caster tires went flat from a small pin hole before i had even finished cutting my yard the first time. ( 34 acre lot)
Over all I am very pleased.

Awesome mower, great deal!
At first, I have to say I was a little skeptical about buying a mower online without even going to look at one at a dealership or anything, but the grass around the house made my decision for me. I had to have one as soon as possible. I did huge amounts of research online about this mower and knew my price range. I put my order in on Sunday and I also ordered the floor mat and hitch kit. I got the e-mails on Monday that my mower and attachments were on the way. On Wednesday, I received the floor mat and hitch kit by FedEx and I got a delivery appointment for the mower for Thursday. The mower was brought by tractor trailer and the driver used the lift gate to lower the mower down to the ground and used a pallet jack to take it to the end of our driveway. I would definetley recommend getting the lift gate service because it would have truly been a challenge to get the crated mower manually lifted to the ground. After the driver left, it actually took a little more effort than I expected to get the mower out of the crate. Me and a couple of friends cut the box open and used a hammer to break the 2x2's from the crate, and then lifted the mower out. The only thing that you had to do to get this thing rolling was hook the battery cables up and put gas in! One of the things that I was concerned about was if it came with oil in the engine and it did. Very, very simple. I had the thing out mowing in probably 30 minutes and I never thought that would happen. With the mower being tax free with the free delivery, I probably saved $500 or more, and that was huge. I didn't even have to use a Saturday to have to go get the mower if I would have bought it from a Toro dealer, Lowes, or Home Depot. I have recommended this site to many people looking to buy a mower, and everyone cannot believe the money I saved. I have even looked around for cheaper places to buy the attachments and you can't find lower prices with the shipping factored in. I would not hesitate to buy another mower from Mowers Direct, and I have actually thought of getting a brush mower from them in the future. This was the easiest option I have seen and I absolutely love my Toro zero-turn! Thanks again, Mowers Direct, and keep up the great work.

Great mower that is fun
I have a large lawn. For years all I would buy was Craftsmen. This mower is the best money spent for our home. Quick and fun to drive. Good on gas. place for my drink and smokes. Cuts perfect and yard looks great. Run at half speed and mow like a pro.

Packaging Nightmare
I received my Toro SS5000 on 04/30/11. Toro makes sure that their mowers are secure for transport as it took me 1-1/2 hours to get it out of the crate. It doesn't just "simply" roll out of the crate as is listed on the crate. I had to use my chainsaw and floor jack to remove the mower. However, once the mower was out, I gassed it up, checked the oil, adjusted the levers and turned the ignition on. And it started right up. I engaged the blades, pushed the levers forward and began to cut. THIS THING IS ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!!! So far, I'm convinced it is the best mower I've ever purchased. I actually LIKE cutting my grass again. I don't think you can go wrong purchasing a Toro Zero Turn. And no, I don't work for Toro.

Great Mower
Mower arrived on time and in fine condition. R&L driver helped to get it off road and into my driveway. Had lots of fun unpacking and getting it off the pallet. Wound up using engine hoist to lift it and slide package out from underneath it.
Looks good and runs great.
I'm looking forward to getting rid of Obama so I'll be able to afford some gas and use the mower to cut my lawn.
GREAT MACHINE!!
Thanks for the terrific service,

Lemon?
Right from the start there were problems. It was difficult to start. I figured it was just a cold engine that had never really been run much if at all. I checked the oil which was reading fine. Started it and ran the engine at half throttle as manual states for about 5 minutes. I cut one acre to start, just to see how it was doing. I checked the oil again after the first acre. it was half way down the dipstick. I figured, OK maybe it drops a little after running the engine like many cars do. So I added a bit of oil. I then cut two more acres. It died twice in the process and would not restart for about 10 minutes each time. After finishing the two acres, the oil reading was no where on the dipstick. I filled it again and let it set. Next day the oil level was fine. No passive leaks right. I started it again and it was blowing a ton of white smoke. OK....problem. Maybe it's just a bad engine. I suppose it'll be my responsibility to find a way to haul it in to some repair shop and wait 3 months to get it back.
