Q: Just ordered a Toro TimeCutter zero turn mower. What type gas does it use? regular or supreme?
by John Strickland from Florida on November 02, 2013

A: John - you should use regular grade 87 octane gas. The higher grade gas is just a waste of money - it will not improve engine performance. Also, make sure the regular grade 87 octane gas you use does not have an ethanol content of more than 10%.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Is the floor plate removable in order to have easy access to the center blade spindle and belt maintenance?
by James Griffin from Texas on June 29, 2013

A: James - the floor plate is NOT removable on any of the Toro TimeCutter zero turn mowers, including the SS5000.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: How is this mower cleaned?

by Jim Thompson from Wisconsin on June 27, 2013

A: Jim - there is a deck wash out port on the mower deck that allows you to connect a garden hose and spray the underside of the deck with water if you wish to clean it in this fashion.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Todd,

If I purchase a TimeCutter SS4260, how big of a gate fence should I have to comfortably ride through?

I'm afraid a 5-foot gate might not work if it has the mulching feature on it.

Please advise. Thanks! Brad

by Brad Hawkins from Washington on February 18, 2012

A: Brad - with the discharge chute cover in the "up" position, the mower has an overall width of 45 inches. When you are mowing and the discharge chute cover is down, the overall width is 54 inches. So fitting through a 5 foot (60") fence gate should not be an issue. The mulch kit mounts entirely under the mower deck and would not anything to the overall width of the mower.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Does installing the mulching kit on the Toro TimeCutter SS4235 increase the final operating width more than the stated specification of 43.5"?
by Jim from Colorado on June 22, 2011

A: Jim - the mulch kit on a Toro SS series TimeCutter zero turn mower mounts totally on the inside of the mower deck, so the mulch kit would not have any effect on the overall width of the mower.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: What is the width of the Toro Timecutter SS4235 with the mulching attachment. I have a 48" gate to get thru.
by Jim from Colorado on June 13, 2011

A: Jim - The mulch kit has no impact on the width of the mower. The mulch kit mounts totally underneath the mower deck on the inside. so, with the chute deflector cover is the "up" position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx 45" wide at their widest point. With the chute deflector cover in the down position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx. 54" wide.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: I have a 4 foot door and need to know what the the maximum width of the Toro TimeCutter SS4235 with the deflector shield removed is?
by Greg from Texas on June 11, 2011

A: Greg - with the chute deflector cover is the "up" position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx 45" wide at their widest point. With the chute deflector cover in the down position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx. 54" wide.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: What is the width of Toro Timecutter SS4235 with the Twin Bagger attached?
by Jim from Colorado on June 05, 2011

A: Jim - with a bagging system installed, the Toro 42-inch TimeCutter will measure approx. 49 inches wide at the rear of the mower where the bagger is hooked up.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: What incline does the Toro TimeCutter SS4200 (42") 19HP Zero Turn Lawn Mower (2011 Model) handle
by Mila from California on May 29, 2011

A: Mila - Toro recommends that the SS4200 TimeCutter should not be operated on slopes of greater than 15 degrees. Toro also recommends that you should not operate this mower on ANY slopes when grass is wet. Slippery conditions reduce traction and could cause sliding and loss of control.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: What's the difference between the 4260 and the 4235, besides 2 HP and $300.00?

Also do you know the Dba for the 20 and 22 HP?

Thanks

by Ron Johnson from Washington on May 21, 2011

A: Ron - the Toro TimeCutter SS4235 and SS4260 are the same mower except for these main differences (1) the SS4260 has a 22HP Kawasaki engine vs. the 20HP engine on the SS4235 (which you pointed out); (2) the SS4260 includes a foot-assist height of cut adjustment system, a rear engine guard and the anti-vibration floor mat as standard equipment. These would all be optional accessories on the SS4235. These three very popular accessories would sell for about $150 to $160 if purchased separately. Kawasaki does not list a decibel rating for their riding mower engines, so I cannot provide you with this measurement, but both the 20HP and 22HP engines are loud enough that Toro recommends the operator use some sort of ear protection when operating a TimeCutter zero turn mower.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: What is the blade speed on this mower, does it work good with bagger set-up.
by Al Harris from Oklahoma on May 13, 2011

A: The blade speed on this mower is going to be about 3600 RPM give or take 100 on each blade.

In terms of using a bagger. The suction provided from the deck design would give you more than enough speed to give you a good result from a bagger attachment.

Thanks,

Q: Is there any mower that has power steering, as husband has Parkinson's . push button blade control?
by Terri Graham from Minnesota on April 26, 2011

A: This is going to depend on what is meant by power steering. When it comes to a zero turn, these are very easy to steer by using the steering bars that effortlessly move forward and back.

In terms of the push button blade control, these would be activated by a push button that you would push in and pull out for blade engagement.

Thanks,

Q: Can the twin bagger attachment for the Toro SS4260 be used with the mulching kit in place, or would you have to remove all the mulching baffles before using the bagger?
by Todd Stevens from Maine on April 19, 2011

A: Thanks for your inquiry. Yes, you can bag with the mulch kit in place. Just make sure you remove the mulch plug from the discharge chute.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Is the deck on the ss4260 (42) made of 10 gage steel or is it a stamped deck?
by Eddie Freeman from North Carolina on March 24, 2011

A: Thanks for your inquiry. The deck on this mower is stamped.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Hi Todd,
I was looking at the 42" Toro ss's and was interested in your thoughts on the Kawasaki 20 hp vs. The 22 hp. $300 seems like an awful lot more for 2 hp.

by Pat Raugh from Pennsylvania on March 20, 2011

A: Thanks for your inquiry. The Kawasaki is the best zero turn engine you will find. This engine is worth the extra money becuase it will give long lasting durability and performance.

Time Cutter 4260 Cuts Time
Have had this Timecutter 4260 for only about 6 weeks now. The mower performs well so far. Time will tell how well it continues to perform, but it runs well. The Kawasaki engine I feel better about purchasing. I was a little concerned about power, but so far the 21.5 HP seems to handle the conditions. Since this is my first zero turn mower there's no basis for comparison, but I am happy with purchase so far. Did not take that long to get use to the handling. As stated can slide on hills, so have... more

Disappointed in quality! Deck coating underneath needs to be better Top side of deck is rust pitting after 38 hours of use. Two idler bearings have already worn out. Leaves marks in nice soft grass that dig in ground even at low speeds

Great So Far.
Wanted a zero turn to mow my 1-acre lawn with lots of obstacles. Did my research and got this one because of the high back seat and thought the Kawasaki engine would last longer. I was concerned about getting the right deck size, and it turns out the 42' deck is a good size for me.

It does great on medium hills. Can't use it on a steep hill, but not so sure any other mower would do that much better. Overall this mower seems great. It was a little tricky getting the mower off the wood palate... more

Best Mower I Have Ever Used
This is my first Zero-Turn so it is taking a little getting used to but by far it is the best mower I have ever used. I love the built in hour meter. It will help greatly with maintenance.

The Kawasaki engine has plenty of power, runs smooth and is fairly quiet for it's size. With the mufflers on the bottom it does get a little hot and I am a little nervous about parking it in my wooden shed without first letting it cool down.

My Mower
This is a great mower, we did have one problem about 6 hours into the mowing, when we went to start it again, the starter solenoid went out. Still waiting to get this repaired. But again, when it's running, I can't say enough about it. I love it.

Mower Is Great!! Delivery Was Bad!!!!
The mower is great. My husband and grandson (10 years old) both mastered it in a few minutes. The delivery by SAIA was terrible. They scheduled and did not show 3 different times!!! They did not call to let us know they would not be delivering as scheduled!!

Finally after I calling the help line after EACH no show, the mower was delivered on the third scheduled day but 2 hours after their stated delivery time. My husband had to take off work all 3 days to wait for them!!

Great Machine
Order was processed and shipped quickly. It took more time to remove the shipping crate than to complete what little assembly was needed.

Everything checked out...added a little gas...and wife was mowing! We love it. Found it was easy to use and easy to clean up.

We doo recommend taking a few practice laps to get used to the operating controls though as we found them to be very sensitive.
