If I purchase a TimeCutter SS4260, how big of a gate fence should I have to comfortably ride through?
I'm afraid a 5-foot gate might not work if it has the mulching feature on it.
Please advise. Thanks! Brad by Brad Hawkins from Washington on February 18, 2012
A: Brad - with the discharge chute cover in the "up" position, the mower has an overall width of 45 inches. When you are mowing and the discharge chute cover is down, the overall width is 54 inches. So fitting through a 5 foot (60") fence gate should not be an issue. The mulch kit mounts entirely under the mower deck and would not anything to the overall width of the mower. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Does installing the mulching kit on the Toro TimeCutter SS4235 increase the final operating width more than the stated specification of 43.5"? by Jim from Colorado on June 22, 2011
A: Jim - the mulch kit on a Toro SS series TimeCutter zero turn mower mounts totally on the inside of the mower deck, so the mulch kit would not have any effect on the overall width of the mower. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: What is the width of the Toro Timecutter SS4235 with the mulching attachment. I have a 48" gate to get thru. by Jim from Colorado on June 13, 2011
A: Jim - The mulch kit has no impact on the width of the mower. The mulch kit mounts totally underneath the mower deck on the inside. so, with the chute deflector cover is the "up" position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx 45" wide at their widest point. With the chute deflector cover in the down position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx. 54" wide. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: I have a 4 foot door and need to know what the the maximum width of the Toro TimeCutter SS4235 with the deflector shield removed is? by Greg from Texas on June 11, 2011
A: Greg - with the chute deflector cover is the "up" position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx 45" wide at their widest point. With the chute deflector cover in the down position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx. 54" wide. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: What is the width of Toro Timecutter SS4235 with the Twin Bagger attached? by Jim from Colorado on June 05, 2011
A: Jim - with a bagging system installed, the Toro 42-inch TimeCutter will measure approx. 49 inches wide at the rear of the mower where the bagger is hooked up. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: What incline does the Toro TimeCutter SS4200 (42") 19HP Zero Turn Lawn Mower (2011 Model) handle by Mila from California on May 29, 2011
A: Mila - Toro recommends that the SS4200 TimeCutter should not be operated on slopes of greater than 15 degrees. Toro also recommends that you should not operate this mower on ANY slopes when grass is wet. Slippery conditions reduce traction and could cause sliding and loss of control. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: What's the difference between the 4260 and the 4235, besides 2 HP and $300.00?
Also do you know the Dba for the 20 and 22 HP?
Thanks by Ron Johnson from Washington on May 21, 2011
A: Ron - the Toro TimeCutter SS4235 and SS4260 are the same mower except for these main differences (1) the SS4260 has a 22HP Kawasaki engine vs. the 20HP engine on the SS4235 (which you pointed out); (2) the SS4260 includes a foot-assist height of cut adjustment system, a rear engine guard and the anti-vibration floor mat as standard equipment. These would all be optional accessories on the SS4235. These three very popular accessories would sell for about $150 to $160 if purchased separately. Kawasaki does not list a decibel rating for their riding mower engines, so I cannot provide you with this measurement, but both the 20HP and 22HP engines are loud enough that Toro recommends the operator use some sort of ear protection when operating a TimeCutter zero turn mower. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: What is the blade speed on this mower, does it work good with bagger set-up. by Al Harris from Oklahoma on May 13, 2011
A: The blade speed on this mower is going to be about 3600 RPM give or take 100 on each blade.
In terms of using a bagger. The suction provided from the deck design would give you more than enough speed to give you a good result from a bagger attachment.
Q: Is there any mower that has power steering, as husband has Parkinson's . push button blade control? by Terri Graham from Minnesota on April 26, 2011
A: This is going to depend on what is meant by power steering. When it comes to a zero turn, these are very easy to steer by using the steering bars that effortlessly move forward and back.
In terms of the push button blade control, these would be activated by a push button that you would push in and pull out for blade engagement.
Q: Can the twin bagger attachment for the Toro SS4260 be used with the mulching kit in place, or would you have to remove all the mulching baffles before using the bagger? by Todd Stevens from Maine on April 19, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. Yes, you can bag with the mulch kit in place. Just make sure you remove the mulch plug from the discharge chute. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Is the deck on the ss4260 (42) made of 10 gage steel or is it a stamped deck? by Eddie Freeman from North Carolina on March 24, 2011
Q: Hi Todd, I was looking at the 42" Toro ss's and was interested in your thoughts on the Kawasaki 20 hp vs. The 22 hp. $300 seems like an awful lot more for 2 hp. by Pat Raugh from Pennsylvania on March 20, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. The Kawasaki is the best zero turn engine you will find. This engine is worth the extra money becuase it will give long lasting durability and performance. by Todd, Product Expert

Toro TimeCutter SS4260 (42") 22HP Kawasaki
So I purchased a TimeCutter Z, 4240 a couple of years ago and got to mow with it through two seasons before we moved from a 3.3 AC in VA to a .3 AC useless lot in OH. I sold it, cried a bit and moved on. So I started shopping around for the last two months while pushing almost an AC and did not know...1. If I needed this much mower for the lawn and 2. If I felt comfortable about buying it online and having it shipped. I liked the old 4220, but the bonus on this mower was the high back seat, rubber mat, foot control on the deck adjustments, and the brush guard. My old mower came with none of those add-ons at roughly the same price.
I called Mowers Direct and they answered all of my questions about the mower and one other I was looking at, and I continued to hold while I was talking to two local dealerships about one of these two mowers. I read and read all of the reviews and pulled the trigger. I could not be happier with the purchase. Removing it from the crating was a simple enough task. I checked the oil, hooked up the battery and held off on getting out my meter to check the voltage...added gas and the mower started right up....oh and I hooked the latch on the seat as well. Very easy.
I also bought the hour meter (cake to install), towing hitch thingy (cake to install) and the mulching kit. The mulching kit is a bit more tedious, but nothing out of the realm of an average home owner with a socket set and either power drill or screw driver can't handle.
I am very pleased with the process time as well as the shipping. For my lot the mowing time went down from 1 hr. 46 mins to 35 mins, but I still have to get my Toro Push mower for our stupid ditch. At any rate, I cannot say enough as to the buying experience as that I am very pleased with the knowledge base here at Mowers Direct and I will be back.

Not very durable
Used it 3 times and a pulley broke off while riding on a clean level surface. The blade span out of control making a lot of noise. Spoke to the nearest dealer and he said I'd need to bring the machine in for service. But the mower is so heavy that I'd need to order a truck and pay $100 to transport it for a couple of miles. The pulley with all the parts is going to cost less than that so I'll be just replacing it myself.

Toro Time Cutter Model 74626 48" Zero Turn
Ordering was easy and tracking provided fast information. Delivery was within or before expectations, I think in 5 days. Mower was protected well with shipping crate and all I had to do was check the oil and add gas.
I am not used to a zero turn mower, so it takes a little learning curve to get up to the task. I would advise setting on slow speed for a while until you get used to controls, especially if you are near sensitive areas you do not want to hit or run off into a ditch etc.
I had to order the bagger attachment from a different source, a Big Box Store. It was less expensive, although they sent a bagger without all the parts, and I had to take it back to the local Big Box Store to get credit and reorder.
That was a pain in the $%^, but not an issue with Mowers Direct.
The bagger attachment seems well designed, much better than a John Deere. Seems like JD could have figured out it needs more support to keep the chute from sagging, warping. It looks like Toro figured this out. If you need to bag your clippings and this mower is one of your choices, Toro did a nice design job on this attachment. The first few times I used the mower was without bagging, and it did a great job of clipping very high grass 6+" St Aug) to near undetectable.
However, I am not sure the Zero Turn mower was the right mower for my use. I wanted to try it based on the reviews and features like the zero turn and extra width. One issue with zero turn mowers that is not obvious at first, is the drive system and effects it can have on your grass. Fast turns, such as zero turn spins can and will dig a divot in you grass. One wheel stops and the other spins to create the turn. If yard is damp to wet, you'll get a divot or worse, get stuck and spin.
I have had it for about 2 months now, and do like the mower, although I may have picked the wrong model for my application. Yard is about 0.75 acres with tight areas, so the bagger gets hit when trying to turn. Needs an extra 2 ft space behind the mower to account for tail-swing. One of the main reasons I choose this models was for the Kawasaki motor. I wold not have a Briggs.

Can't believe I waited this long!
After finally breaking down and purchasing the TimeCutter, I can't believe that I waited as long as I did. I have nothing but praise for this mower. It's quick, it's easy, it's powerful, and most of all, it's a blast to ride. Mowing has gone from being a chore, to being an anticipated joy.
It's extremely maneuverable, and with very little zero-turn experience, have mastered precise cuts even around my wife's prized flower beds. And, it's so aptly named - the TimeCutter has cut my time down to probably one-third of the time it used to take me to mow my 1 acre.
I can't speak of the longevity of the equipment since I've only had it for about a month, but if it provides the performance over the years that it does now, I will be one happy camper (mower).
As for Mowers Direct, they had the best price for this mower that I could find, coupled with excellent and speedy delivery service. The entire transaction was flawless. Guaranteed that I will recommend them to anyone who's looking for power equipment.

The wife even likes it !!!
Ordered the SS4260 in June. Really cringed at dropping so much on a mower. It was money well spent - the SS4260 is great. Wish I would have bought one years ago instead of dinking around with Sears. Wasn't sure if I needed the options on the SS4260 but they were well worth it. The engine guard is great and the wife likes the deck hand lever. The mower buzzes through our 34 acres of grass in half the time. Mowers Direct delivered as promised, very happy with their service and the best price around. I'll shop with them again.

Why did I wait so long to buy a riding lawn mower
The order went smooth, mower arrived as scheduled, driver helped me get it up and into the garage. Took me a bit to get it off the pallet but a floor jack, jack stands and a sawzall took care of that without a problem. Once off the pallet and assembled (who needs instructions) put in gas, the key and fired right up and I was off mowing.
Took a bit to get use to but am now mowing like a pro. What use to take about an hour now takes just over 20 minutes and not sure why people say these are not good for hills. It is like a tank on my hills, up and down without a problem. All I can say is why did I wait 35 years to purchase a riding mower, now mowing is fun.
Anyway I have always owned a Toro, thus my decision to purchase another Toro was easy and was not disappointed at all. The 74626 is a very nice mower, starts right up, and runs like a charm. Well done Toro and Mowers Direct!!!!!

Follow-up Review On My Toro 42 inch 22 hp TimeCutter ZTR
Having received my mower in early May, I have just completed my initial 8 hours of cutting operation and performed the recommended 8 hour oil change to remove the break-in oil. I continue to be completely thrilled with the operation of this mower and the high quality cut it gives me. I have had absolutely no problems with the mower.
I followed the oil change instructions and drained the oil after engine shutdown so I got a thorough drain. And even though it did not say to do so, I also replaced the oil filter. Somebody with maintenance experience must have had a hand with the engine design. It was one of the easiest lawnmower oil and filter change experiences I have ever had.
As I am a firm believer in Mobil 1 synthetic oil, I selected Mobil 1 15-W-50 for my Toro. Oklahoma is no stranger to 100+ degree weather and I want this Kawasaki 22 hp engine to last a long time. Per the manual, my next recommended oil change is 100 hours away, but I will probably not go that long as I believe regular oil changes are cheap insurance for long engine life.
I am so glad I found Mowers Direct before I bought a Toro locally. Especially since none of our local Toro dealers even carry the 22 hp model. They only offer the 20 hp version. I got more for my money and the ordering and delivery process worked exactly the way MD says it does. I highly recommend Mowers Direct and the Toro TimeCutter lawnmower.

Saved my back & knees!
This mower replaces a 10 year old self-propelled 21" Toro whose transaxle finally called it quits. The zero turn gets close enough that that VERY little trimming is needed. I do have a bank, however, far in excess of the 15% pitch safely permitted that still requires a propelled mower. Since my yard is cut twice a week this mower is fantastic saving hours and the quality of cut is nothing short of velvet smooth. My neighbor has a bad case of "turf-envy" now and I laugh each time he walks barefoot through my lawn. The delivery service was excellent, the driver had a great attitude and delivered the crate inside my garage. I now highly recommend your site to friends. The simplicity and ease of oil changing was obviously designed by an end user. My experience overall was excellent and kudos to your friendly, competent staff.

Great Mower
I have had my new Toro for around 3 weeks and all I can say is: why did I wait so long! I save an hour every time I mow and the quality of the cutting job looks great.

Zero turn mower great price & great quality delivery
I could go on and on about the great selection combined with useful information provided on this Mowers Direct website that helped me decide what would be the best mower for us. I could go on and on about the ease and effortless ordering facilitated by this Mowers Direct website.
Let me sum it up like this. I set up an account, found the best mower that best fit our needs, followed the clear path through the process of having a premier zero turn Toro SS4260 ordered, delivered promptly by a courteous truck driver right to the end of our driveway (driveway to narrow for large truck to back in). Within a short time the mower was motoring toward our house, yes the one with the 8 inch grass...well used to have 8 inch grass.
What a great deal! What a great mower! What a great experience! Can't wait to buy here again !!!

Very pleased with my Toro Time Cutter 22 HP ZTR.
I too was somewhat aprehensive about ordering something like this online. The entire experience with Mowers Direct has been great and everything went as advertised. Time Cutter 20 HP mowers are available all over Tulsa for $2,599.00, just like Mowers Direct. But when you add the 8% sales tax of over $200.00, I realized I could have the 22 HP model for the same price and it came with the three added options that I wanted.
Ordering:
I ordered online on Friday, April 29, 2011. By Friday night I had my order confirmation and shipping details advising that the mower would ship by RL Truck Line and should arrive in the Tulsa area by Tuesday, May 2. Sure enough, Tuesday morning I received a call from RL to schedule delivery to my house. I requested and was assigned delivery on Thursday morning May 4. I was told to expect the truck between 9 and 11 a.m. Shortly after 10 a.m. a semi tractor-trailer with hydraulic liftgate (that I requested) arrived and the driver unloaded and rolled the crate right into my garage using a hand fork-lift. No damage whatsoever to the shipping crate. Hats off to RL Truck Line.
De-Crating:
Followed the instructions on the cardboard outer crate and soon had the cardboard and wood framework off of the crate base. Followed the instruction manual as far as preparing the mower for removal from the crate base and as I had read from another review, the cross-bracing on the crate base and the weight of the mower makes it difficult for one person to get the mower off of the shipping cratepallet. I took my floor jack and jacked up the rear of the crate so as to create a downhill incline and I was able to roll the mower over the cross-bracing and on to the garage floor all by myself.
Set-Up:
Instructions are easy to understand and follow. The only difficulty I had was when I decided to adjust both control arms to the lower position. The left hand casting apparently had some powder coat residue in the holes and the bolts were difficult to turn. At first I thought I had cross-threaded them. I ran a 38-16 tap through the holes to clean up the threads and everything was fine. I had bought the optional hobbs (hour) meter and the instructions included with that were very straightforward. Oil level was originally at full before I started the engine, but reading was a little low when I checked it again. I suspect the factory serviced it with oil but did not run it so as to put oil in the spin-on filter. Once I ran it and put oil in the filter, it read low. I topped up the oil, filled it with gas and was ready to go.
OperationPerformance:
This mower is built like a tank, which is why I liked it in the first place. It is replacing a 1998 model 42" cut hydrostatic drive Dixon with a 15 HP Kohler engine. I was absolutely amazed at how much quieter the 22 HP Kawasaki engine is over the single cylinder 15 HP Kohler. And the twin cylinders create considerably less vibration than my old single cylinder Kohler. And having used it one time, I am also impressed with the fuel consumption. For a much larger engine, it uses considerably less gas per cutting than my Dixon. Cutting performance is very good and I am completely pleased with this mower.
I would highly recommend that anyone contemplating a new mower purchase plan on buying from Mowers Direct, especially if you live in a sales tax state. You will get more for your money through MD and this buyer does confirm that the entire process works exactly the way they say it does.
Color me happy in Tulsa......on my new red Toro ZTR mower.

Great Mower
I bought one of these a little while ago and couldn't be happier. I have 3 lawns to cut each week and this mower has cut my time down from over 6 hours to about 2. I love the ability to "slow" the mower down...particularly when I was first getting the hang of it. The mower cuts well and my yard looks great.

I just bought it a week ago it is a great mower. I wanted to get a zero turn and so glad I did. I did a lot of research before I bought it because of the name as much as anything. I'm so glad I did it is great.
