Q: What front and rear tire pressures do you recommend for the SS4235? Yard has some slope. Thanks for you time. by Joe Brant from Illinois on July 27, 2011
A: Toro recommends checking tire pressures after every 25 hours of use. Tires should be kept at 12 psi. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Does installing the mulching kit on the Toro TimeCutter SS4235 increase the final operating width more than the stated specification of 43.5"? by Jim from Colorado on June 22, 2011
A: Jim - the mulch kit on a Toro SS series TimeCutter zero turn mower mounts totally on the inside of the mower deck, so the mulch kit would not have any effect on the overall width of the mower. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: What is the width of the Toro Timecutter SS4235 with the mulching attachment. I have a 48" gate to get thru. by Jim from Colorado on June 13, 2011
A: Jim - The mulch kit has no impact on the width of the mower. The mulch kit mounts totally underneath the mower deck on the inside. so, with the chute deflector cover is the "up" position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx 45" wide at their widest point. With the chute deflector cover in the down position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx. 54" wide. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: I have a 4 foot door and need to know what the the maximum width of the Toro TimeCutter SS4235 with the deflector shield removed is? by Greg from Texas on June 11, 2011
A: Greg - with the chute deflector cover is the "up" position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx 45" wide at their widest point. With the chute deflector cover in the down position, the Toro 42" zero turn mowers measure approx. 54" wide. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: What is the width of Toro Timecutter SS4235 with the Twin Bagger attached? by Jim from Colorado on June 05, 2011
A: Jim - with a bagging system installed, the Toro 42-inch TimeCutter will measure approx. 49 inches wide at the rear of the mower where the bagger is hooked up. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: What incline does the Toro TimeCutter SS4200 (42") 19HP Zero Turn Lawn Mower (2011 Model) handle by Mila from California on May 29, 2011
A: Mila - Toro recommends that the SS4200 TimeCutter should not be operated on slopes of greater than 15 degrees. Toro also recommends that you should not operate this mower on ANY slopes when grass is wet. Slippery conditions reduce traction and could cause sliding and loss of control. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Is the lawn mower assembled or is there assembly required by B McEachern from Georgia on May 26, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. The only assembly is putting on the seat. Then you gas and oil the mower and you are ready to go. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Does this Toro TimeCutter SS4235 (42") 20HP Zero Turn Lawn Mower come with grease fittings on the blade spindles? Thank you. by Alan Church from South Dakota on May 18, 2011
A: Alan - none of the Toro SS Series TimeCutters include grease fittings on the blade spindles. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: I am looking at the toro model 74624. What is the thickness gauge of the steel? Is the free freight to the residence? How much are the arm rest? by Ernie Kovacs from Ohio on May 15, 2011
A: Ernie - the mower deck on this model is a 14-gauge stamped steel. The frame is heavy duty 10-gauge steel construction. Yes, our price on this mower includes free delivery to your residence, although you will probably want to consider the lift gate option for $50.00, which will lower the mower from the back of the truck down to the ground. Otherwise, you would be responsible for getting the mower off the back of the truck. An armrest kit (#105-6978) would run you $79.99. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Todd,
Does this mower come with the flush port on the deck for easy cleaning of the underside of deck? by Kent from Wisconsin on May 14, 2011
A: Kent - yes, all Toro TimeCutters with a 42" mower deck come with one deck washout port. The 50" Toro TimeCutters have two deck wash out ports. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Hey Todd- I will to get mower thru gate that is 59" wide-will it fit and secondly if I order on line and need to use warranty who would take care of that? Thanks Brent by Brent Barkley from North Carolina on May 07, 2011
A: Brent - the Toro SS4235 measures approx. 55" wide with the side discharge chute in the "down" position, so this would fit through a 59" wide gate. Regardless of where you purchase your Toro SS4235, your local Toro service center will perform any needed maintenance and repair work under the terms of the Toro warranty. In most cases, you would be responsible for transporting your zero turn to and from the service center, or would be responsible for any pick up and delivery charges if you want the service center to transport the zero turn for you. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Can I order a machine and have you guys fit the mulcher prior to shipment so I don't need to install it when it arrives? by Mark from Pennsylvania on April 25, 2011
A: I am sorry, we don't do anything like this. These units are going to arrive in a crate and we would have to dismantle the crate and this is not something we get involved in.
Thanks,

Q: Does this have a hitch for towing? by John from Ohio on April 23, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. This model is not equipped with a hitch. You would need to buy model number 79014 hitch kit. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Does the Toro 4235 come with oil? If not, what kind and amount does it require? by Barney Basden from Texas on April 18, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. This mower will arrive with a minimal amount of oil. I do recommend topping off the resevoir once you receive the mower. the mower uses regular 30w oil. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Todd will the Ariens Zero Turn Lawn Mower FlexTend Shoulder Support System fit this Toro model? by Kelly from Georgia on April 16, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. This kit will only fit Ariens models. It will not fit any Toro mowers. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Todd do the mowers require assembly upon arrival or are they unloaded readt to go? by Bart Q. from Idaho on April 15, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. All you have to do is put on the seat add gas and oil then go!!! by Todd, Product Expert
Q: I run a small landscaping business and cut about 10 or so 1/2-1 acre yards every weekend. All community homes and non of the yards are too difficult. Can it handle this workload provided I follow scheduled maintenance? by Steve from Virginia on April 13, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. This mower can handle this work load no problem. It is great the type of terrain you are describing. Keep in mind the commercial warranty on this model is 90 days. If you are using the mower that often if will probably not fall under a normal 3 year home owner warranty. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Im think im going to start a lawn business, I currently have no customers. This mower is in price range and is small enough to fit in the trailer(48") we already have, What would the downfalls of this mower by Travis from Michigan on April 11, 2011
A: Travis - none of the Toro TimeCutters are really designed for commercial use. These mowers are really designed to be run for three to five hours a day a couple of times per week at the most. If you are just starting out and won't be mowing for more than 10 or 12 hours per week, this will probably be OK, but you will outgrow this mower very quickly if your business is at all successful. You may also find the 3 gallon fuel tank to be something of a hassle, as you will probably need to fill this a couple of times each day depending on how much you are mowing. The rear tires are also only 18" tires, so they may not give you the traction you are looking for if you end up mowing any lawns or property that have a lot of hills and inclines. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: I am looking at the SS4235, who would do the warranty work if needed? I also looked at the cub cadets, but several complaints were condensation building up in the sealed hydro unit. Is toros also sealed? Does Toro only make Toro or are some parts the same as other competetors? by Mike Puchlak from Michigan on April 10, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. If you needed warranty work you would contact your local Toro service center. The transmission is sealed and Toro only makes parts for Toro zero turns. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: I have about 1 1/2 acres of level yard to cut. I have an gx 95 riding mower, now what size zero radius would you recommend? by Bob Hunnicutt from Georgia on April 07, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. This Toro model would be perfect for your application. It is designed to handle larger mowing areas. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Does this mower have a grass catcher? by Dan Tushar from Washington on April 03, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. The bagger that is compatible for this model is number 79334. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: I have an entry level John Deere rider (17HP) that the transmission has given out after 8 yrs. I do have some slopes and hills in my yard (1.25 acres). I want to get into the ZTR arena. Will the Toro SS4235 ZTR be able to handle these slopes. Will the SS4235 be able to pull my aerator attachment and fertilizer spreader? by Bill from Pennsylvania on March 16, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. This Toro handles hills no problem. This mower has the capability to tow aerators and spreaders as well. You would just have to buy a hitch kit accessory. The model number is 79014. by Todd, Product Expert

New Mower
This mower is the Cat's Meow! Runs so good and cuts about 30 minutes off of my mowing time. I looked at a lot of mowers before buying this one and for the price and no tax and free shipping this is a no brainer! I ordered it on a Thursday and it arrived on Tuesday in Florida! Thanks Mowers Direct.

Love Our New Mower!
Living in SW Florida, our growing season starts in April and ends in early December, with weekly mowing. We ordered this Zero Turn mower after much research and could not be happier with our purchase. My husband is a maintenance junkie and we added the time meter to the order to keep track of scheduled maintenance. Our old riding mower is 12 years old and after many repairs and replacements is still very dependable. Our reason for wanting a zero turn was purely a want. We added also the "lift gate" service for delivery. This is a must for residential deliveries. The driver was great and smart enough to position the pallet in our garage with the rear wheels of the mower towards the outside of the garage which proved to be important when it came time to back the mower off the shipping pallet. We removed the wooden stiffeners from the shipment box which later were key in backing the mower off the pallet. As my husband inched the mower backwards from the pallet, I placed these boards behind the front wheels, moving the boards over and over again until the front wheels cleared the pallet. Wah lah it was off. I had read reviews about other customers having trouble getting the mower off the pallet base, but if you are clever, it is simple. The operation of the mower is like anything else, you have to practice. Once you find yourself actually mowing without "thinking" about the controls, then you pretty much are ready for anything. The first week, my husband was NOT allowed in the back yard as we live on water. He now is mowing everywhere with the mower. Much like a personal pace, you control your speed by how far forward you push the handles so even low speed can be be controlled. After mowing, the wash connection is so easy to use and while you have the garden hose on, turn on the mower deck for added spin action and cleaning. We ordered also the engine guard which was smart and for peace of mind. After mowing, the lawn has a perfectly smooth look and I actually look forward to the grass growing.

I am very happy with mower
I got use to the mower, cause this is the first time with a zero turn mower. I have no problem with the unit.
I do need the bag unit that goes with it. I just ordered it. I have a lot of leaves to pick up in the fall.

Fabulous Service!
Mowers Direct was awesome to deal with - from finding the item I wanted, placing the order, payment, and delivery! Customer Service really is something they take seriously and do well. The mower pulls to the left, but my husband assures me it is a simple adjustment that he can do.
Would definitely purchase through Mowers Direct again, and would recommend you to my friends! THANK YOU!

Nice Mower BUT Comes With a Problem
I recently purchased the SS4235. The whole transaction with Mowers Direct was great. I ran the mower 3 times with no issues but on the fourth mowing, a problem developed where the engine would stall when the motion control levers were engaged. The problem occurred even if one of the motion control arms was engaged. After much research and absolutely no response from Toro, I found out that there is a service bulletin that indicates there is a problem with a bur on the brake arm assemblies that prevents the brake arms from sliding properly. This is a fix as fail issue and the factory is not correcting before shipping the mower. The problem is covered under warranty but if you cannot take it to the shop yourself then it will cost you to have it transported.

great purchase
I'm about a month and a half into my grass cutting, and I've cut my time for a 1 acre lawn with a couple dozen trees to get around from over 3 hours to about 50 minutes, with the best looking lawn I've ever had. I love the the machine, have had no problems, and its fun - as my old self-propelled Toro was getting to be a significant chore. Being 67 and in great health and shape, I still get a bit of a workout with a riding mower which I am pleased with, as compared to a 3 hour hard and maybe overkill workout. Thanks Toro

So far, it's all good
Purchased this mower today 7-11-2011. The learning curve is a little more than I expected, though my 13 year old daughter took right to it...Of course! I got stuck twice, the rear end of these things seem a little light and its not posi-traction, so be careful is all I can say when you start out. Word of caution, stay clear of any embankments. If if looks questionable, just use the trimmer, you can find yourself in trouble REAL quick as a noob.
I was push mowing my yard in about 2 and 3 quarters of an hour (Yup, almost 3 hours total, not a type-o). I completed the entire yard with two stops (As I said, I got stuck) in about 1 hour with the Toro ss4235. Not bad for a first time out! I might add that was at the "Low" speed setting. I can't imagine someone actually crazy enough to try and mow on "High".
I think over all a ZTR may NOT be a good choice for someone who isn't willing to keep their mower clean and serviced. There are grease points for the front wheels and for the mower deck, the dealer said there were no recommendations for when to grease, but it's still a little more than your typical riding mower. Dealer says first oil change after 5 hours then every 50 after. I am a firm believer in keeping the engine oiled and filtered, topped off and the air filer clean.
Again, I really believe if you are committed to keeping a ZTR in shape, your going to like how FAST you get your work done, really, I am impressed, and that doesn't come easy with me. Ok, you will notice I did not rate the mower quite as highly as I could have. One reason only so far...Noise. I don't mean engine noise, though it is loud, it is a power tool. I mean the deck (Or something down there) rattles a lot, right off the first mow. Makes me wonder about future service. I also notice the blades engage with the push of a button and the steering-speed is controlled by the handle bars. It makes me wonder what kind of repair bills I will be looking at in 3 or 4 years. When people spend this kind of money on a mower, they expect long lasting equipment...Time will tell.
Overall, this is the right mower in this price range, I read all the reviews at all the sites for all the other brands, this is the one I (I really did spend 2 weeks doing iResearch). So, stop reading and start mowing! PEACE!

I purchased a new Toro SS4235 (42") mower on 5-20-2011, and due to an unusual drought, I was not able to use it till today 6-20 2011 exactly a month later. I am impressed at how much time the Toro saved me, compared to my previous riding mower. So far I am very satisfied with my purchase, and would recommend Mowers Direct to anyone looking to buy a mower. Their sales staff are professional and courteous. The mower arrived on time and neatly crated with no damage. The Toro looks and feels like a very well made US product, and I expect many years of service from it.

My first zero turn
Best mower I have ever owned. Works great around trees, hedges and bushes, saves me time and fuel with zero turn capabilities. 20 horse power is great for the toughest grass and big yards, kick myself for not getting one sooner.

Great Mower
I am loving my Z turn Toro and would recommend it to anyone looking at a Z turn. Yard work is now fun. Getting it out of the box was a bit tricky. I also bought the mulching kit, which was much more work to put on than I expected.
Once every thing was together it started right up and worked great. I am very happy with my choice.
The people at Mowers Direct were great to work with and every thing came in on time and in great condition.

Great service, and the mower is nice too.
I ordered Wednesday afternoon and was unloading my mower off the truck Friday afternoon. I took my time reading instructions and had the mower off the pallet and running in an hour and a half working alone. It was very straight forward. Cut the cardboard off, and stack a pile of lumber off to the side.
Setup involved hooking up one post of the battery, checking the oil, adding gas and adjusting the steering arms. Next time I'll add gas and drive it off the pallet. The pallet was designed to keep the mower in perfect shape during shipping and it did its job.
There is a definite learning curve to zero turn. The 2 speed ranges are nice. After mowing twice I'm still not ready to kick it into high, but the low range is plenty fast to cut my mowing time plus mowing is more fun now.
MOWER DIRECT is great and I'm very pleased with my Toro. Thanks guys, you do a wonderful job.

I'm not much of an online shopper but after a lot of research I could not find a better deal on a ZTR than thru MowersDirect. Add in "no sales tax" and it was a no-brainer. I did pay for my ZTR by check rather than credit card, saving myself over $50. From ordering (including a couple of calls to customer service with questions) thru delivery (thank heavens for the lift gate service), the process has been flawless.
The hardest part of set-up was getting it out of the carton and off the pallet. Otherwise, set-up was a breeze, and I was mowing away within an hour of delivery (including time to review the operator's manual). My first ZTR, so it took some getting used to, but unless and until I get a small yard, I'm sold on them. Too soon to comment on the machine itself as I've only used it once, but in terms of the process thru Mowers Direct, it has been outstanding.

First mow is a great one!
These reviews were very helpful in making my decision on this mower and this site. I'd like to give my feedback as well, in hopes that it will help someone else make a decision.
I have a little over a half acre of thick, sodded greenery, and my Cub Cadet 38" was taking me about 1hr 15 mins to 1hr 30 mins. If I bagged, I would end up with 12 big bags of grass. If I mulched, I had to go over the same areas 2 to 4 times. Just shooting the grass out took equally as long. So, I decided I needed to look into a zero turn. My worry was that I was going to have similar issues with the zero turn.
I was leaning toward buying a Hustler Sport based on many reviews I read on the web. I thought the price was going to be around $3,000. I headed to the local dealer and found out that the one with the "good engine" (the non-Briggs and Stratton engine) was $3500, so my plan was quickly busted.
The dealer carried Toro too, and the salesman talked up the Toros, specifically the 4235. I sat down in it and it felt comfortable, so I went back home and did more research. The Toro video and other videos on YouTube, along with reviews of the mower, and I finally decided to make the purchase.
As others have stated, saving tax dollars really helped make my decision. I think I would've been happy with the dealer too, but Mowers Direct was a pretty good experience.
The small cons to the process:
1. The lift gate service from the shipping company is a must for almost anyone without their own forklift. So that's an added $50. Not a huge expense, but you wouldn't need it from your local dealer because they'd likely deliver for free.
2. As mentioned by another poster, the packaging of the mower takes a while to get through. The dealer would've most likely already taken care of this before delivering. If you're handy, you're definitely left with enough wood to make a few things (I made a lemonade stand for the kids and I have enough wood left to make at least one more).
3. Getting the mower off the palette was a leap of faith, but I managed to drive it off once I had it as close to the ground I could get it. My ramps helped out, too.
4. I had to do the set-up of seat install, battery connect, oil addition, lever set-up.
I knew these things beforehand, but I still thought they were noteworthy.
None of these things were terrible, but as I age, I realize that I like spending less time on these types of things, even to save a few bucks. But in this situation, it was probably worth the couple hundred bucks I saved.
Once I started mowing, I wasn't as good at controlling it as I thought I'd be. First realization...the mower is very fast! The speed control option (changing between a max of 7mph and 4mph) is very handy. I didn't time it, but I bet my time mowing was also cut by 1/3 to a half (as another reviewer mentioned).
As I get better at controlling the mower, I bet it'll be even faster. I did notice that over some uneven ground, the mower both scalped and left grass uncut. That's my biggest complaint about the mower so far. I was amazed how easily it mowed the rest of the yard. I was expecting to notice grass clippings all over, but they really weren't noticeable except for a few areas.
There's no hour meter (which should be built-in in my opinion), so I still need to purchase one. I don't think I'll be getting the mulching kit based on my previous mulching experience and stories of others who have the mulching kit.
Overall, very happy with the mower and MowersDirect.com. At least in my current, new mower 'honeymoon' phase, I'm looking forward to mowing the yard again (for the first time ever in my life). If you have the budget for a zero turn, get this mower!

My First ZTR Mower
I have really loved my new mower. It has cut the mowing time for my lawn by at least a third, if not a half. My only complaint is that with the mulching kit I seem to have a lot more clippings on my lawn when I am done than I used to have with my Craftsmen Lawn Tractor.

First, let me say I am very satisfied with the mower. I will never have a tractor again, but the best part was the service. I ordered it on Wed at 4pm and received it on Friday at 11 am. I had previously ordered one from a dealer 1 mile away and after a week it still wasn't in.

O.K So far
Haven't had much opportunity to use the mower yet due to the cold rainy weather here in Ohio. So far the mower has performed well with just one use. It seems the drive to each of the rear wheels is not balanced. If I were to push both controls full forward, I would end up going in a wide circle. Not sure if there is an adjustment for that.

Very Happy with Toro Zero Turn!
I did a lot of research before purchasing the Toro 4235, this mower had the best motor and frame for the price. I received the mower in about 3 business days from the order date. The only issue with delivery was that I paid for lift gate service but Mowers Direct didn’t pay the trucking company. So long story short I had to go pick the mower up from the terminal and get a refund on my $50. (From what I hear this is common).
I filled the tank and checked the oil, the mower fired right up. I have mowed my 1+ acre lot about 4 times with no issues. The Kawasaki engine is quiet and smooth, with plenty of power. The cut is as smooth and clean as I have seen. My father owns a Cub Cadet in a similar model and I have used it many times. I still prefer the Toro's handling and cut a lot more than the Cub Cadet.

All Good
The Toro Timecutter really does cut my mowing time by just over 50%. Everything I have ordered has been delivered on time and in excellent shape. It all works as advertised. I have had NO mechanical problems with my Zero Turn Timecutter. I have used the mower on approximately 1-1/4 acres for approximately 1-1/2 seasons. Will continue to look at Mower Direct products FIRST before any mower or accessory purchase. Totally pleased.

Your on your own
Mowers Direct delivered it within 2 days, but with no key or manual. They had Toro send a key that took over a week to get instead of sending one that they sell on their website. Sold a hitch that you don't need. If you buy the bagger it comes with one. Restocking fee. Mower does a nice job when it runs, tries to stall out when you pull handle in to move, runs great after doing this 2-10 times. Toro sent me to a Toro dealer that is out of business. Like I said your on your own.

Purchased April 7TH and recieved it on April 12TH
I have purchased many items online and could not be any happier with MOWERS DIRECT. I actually was a little skeptical making this purchase online, just because of the fear of receiving it damaged and having the hassle to call to replace broken items. So, I called three different times to feel this company out. I asked several questions and each person I spoke with was very knowledgeable, courteous and all of representatives had the exact same answers, so I felt very comfortable with making my purchase with them.
Anyway, when I received the ZTR mower, and the rear bagger accessory there was no damage and all of the items where packed very well in crates, and on a pallet. My experience so far has been GREAT, and I would do it again. I have had a 30" Dixon ZTR for 15 years and loved it, but it was just time to replace it for a larger one. I have not used this one yet, but all of the reviews that I have read, I feel this is the best mower and price. The worst part about this was getting it out of the crate, but it was well worth it because there was no damage. Very happy customer, and can't wait to use it and write another review.

Great Mower at a Great Price
This is my first Zero Turn Radius mower coming from a riding Craftsman for 8 years. I researched thoroughly and this is the best value for the money. Mowers Direct shipped out quickly and my mower arrived in just a few days. There was plenty of communication throughout the process...even the truck driver called me to let me know what time he would be at my house on arrival day. Couldn't be happier.

First ZTR
I purchased this item about a month ago. It has worked better than perfect!!!
I also purchased the sun shade and view this as the most important part of the mower.. lol.
I would refer this mower to anyone with more than an acre. It was easy to learn and handle.

First
I've only had it for a couple of weeks, but may as well get someone posting a review.
Mowers Direct was tied with the best price I found anywhere, but when you factor in no tax charged and free shipping +$50 for the lift gate service, it was no contest. The mower arrived at the local terminal quickly. Too bad those guys forgot to put it on the truck the day we had a delivery appointment. But when they got it here a day late, the driver was very friendly and professional.
Set-up was pretty easy, though I could have gotten it off of the pallet much quicker with another person's help. The mower doesn't roll off of the packaging crate quite as easy as the instructions would imply. The seat and handles are pretty easily adjustable to get a good fit (and I'm a small guy).
As for cut quality, I have only used the mulching kit, but it was smooth and even. Still haven't tested it on wet or extra long grass yet. The controls are very easy and intuitive. The select a speed option or whatever they call it is very handy for getting around landscaping and edges. At the Hi speed setting, precision steering requires a little too much precision coordination for me. But over all, it took about 20 minutes for my 110x175 lot.
I was pleasantly surprised at the sound level. It wasn't nearly as loud as I would have expected.
The mulching kit was not too hard to install, but some of the instructions could stand to be revised for a little more precision description. The most difficult part about that installation was the fear associated with torquing on bolts with the 600lb mower up on cinder blocks.
Overall, though I've only used it a couple of times, I think I'll be happy in the long term. Nothing about the obvious build quality worries me.
And this is at least the 3rd purchase I've made with the (insertyouproduct)Direct family of companies and have always been happy with the price, quality, and delivery time.
