Q: I own a TORO 20330 ser#310058489. The top speed is too fast for me and it is difficult to hold the speed lever at the right speed. Can the top speed of this mower be adjusted slower? by Jame W. Norris from Wisconsin on June 14, 2011
A: James - The maximum self-propel ground speed on the Toro Recycler self-propelled mowers is fixed. To reduce the ground speed, increase the space between the self-propel drive bar and the handle. by Jose, Product Expert

Disappointed
My 22 inch Recycler is just out of its 2 year warranty. It worked well at first, but this summer it began stalling out for no apparent reason.
It could not be re-started for up to an hour. This problem has been intermittent and there is no way to know when it is going to happen. And, now the self-propel feature has gone out. I was just mowing as usual and it just stopped pulling. I thought I had purchased a quality product and am extremely disappointed. DON'T BUY THIS MOWER!!!
MD RESPONDS: You may want to check your Owner's Manual and go through the Troubleshooting steps there. (We have it on our web site if you can't find your copy.) Something as simple as a clogged air cleaner can keep an engine from running properly.
It's a good idea, even while your mower is still covered by warranty, to have your mower checked over at the start of every mowing season. That gets the oil changed, the air filter cleaned, cleans out any birdseed the mice may have stored in the muffler... the whole 9 yards.
A good service facility will also check and lubricate your cables, and adjust the throttle. Your self-propel issue could be as simple as a dirty and jammed cable.
Any mower will not run well if the maintenance isn't done regularly. You can go to www.toro.com to find the closest service location to your zip code.

Don't Buy This Model!
We bought this mower 3 weeks ago and have returned it TWICE! We recently upgraded to a Honda as recommended by the salesperson.
We loved the way the Toro Recycler mowed, however, both mowers chewed up the back flap in the blade. I have owed a yard for 38+ years and have never had this happen. Neither the store nor Toro Customer Service could tell me what happened. Toro Customer Service was of no help. We were so frustrated with the quality and service and decided it best to move on to a different brand.
We hope they will look into this safety issue.
MD RESPONDS: It may be possible the mower was incorrectly put together at the store- we haven't had any other customers tell us about this problem, and yet it happened to you twice.
The good news is that the 20330T is covered by a 2 year Manufacturer's Warranty, and there are at least 10 Authorized Service facilities in the Springboro area.
Having Toro's service mechanics set up your mower properly would have solved any problems and given you a safe, reliable mower.

Recently I purchased a Toro Personal Pace Mower, it shined and looked great. Well that's where it ends.
I put the handle on and poured in the oil, filled up the tank with gas and off I went to mow my lawn. I was amazed at the ease of the personal pace feature and ease of adjusting to the mower, then all of a sudden the self propelled mower quit.
The engine ran but the mower would not move without me pushing it. I checked every thing out all seemed fine except when I tried to mow again it would not move with out manual pushing. I loaded up my mower and took it back to the big box store.
I told the salesman what happened, he checked it out and verified my problem with the mower. He assured me that it's very uncommon for a Toro to come back, so he recommended a replacement and helped me load up a new one in my truck.
I took it home, it too shined and looked great in my garage; then I took it out to mow. My first mowing went without a hitch. A week went by, I took my mower out of the garage and pushed it to the back yard to start mowing only it would not start.
I pulled and pulled but nothing. I checked to make sure my plug wire was still hooked up and it was, but still would not start. I tried and tried, finally frustrated I loaded up my mower and took it back. This time I got my money back.
Now I am again looking for a mower that I would have trouble with. Honda? Troybuilt? Lawnboy? John Deere? They all seem to be great but then again Toro was reported as one of the top 10 mowers for 2010.
Thanks, but no thanks for a Toro Personal Pace.
MD RESPONDS: Toro stands behind their mowers with an amazing 5 year factory warranty; a quick trip to your local Service Center would have gotten you back up and mowing with confidence.
All of the major brands you mention have good warranties and service networks; they are there to make sure your mower performs year in and year out.

Amazing Mower But...
This is one of the best cutting mowers I've used in my life. It cuts through tall wet grass like a hot knife through butter, better than anything I've used short of a weedwacker.
But, it says on the box that it has a variable speed power drive. It doesn't seem so though when you engage it, it is just one speed: fast.
In the manual there is JUST ONE SENTENCE pertaining to the power drive adjustment. It says in order to adjust the speed you are supposed to hold the engagement bar further away from the main handlebar to go slower. This is difficult to do when you are mowing.
I'm wondering if it allows the drive belt to slip a little bit allowing you to walk slower, but this would be bad for the belt. I've yet to take the drive cover off and see if this is the case.
Other than that, it's an amazing mower and I am happy with my purchase.
I looked at a Honda and the Honda is great, but it's quadra-blade doesn't chomp through super tall, wet grass nearly as good as the Toro does. The two blades just bog down too much in the real rough stuff.
