Q: We had bad luck finding a good self propelled lawn mower. We first tryed a sears craftsman #37454 with front wheel drive and larger back wheels. It turned good but would not move without some pushing. We next tryed a Craftsman 37108 with rear drive and 4 variable speeds. This one did move fine but trying to turn it was like a car without power steering. (my wife and I are 65...) I think the mower was about 110 lbs. We would the following in a mower. 1. easy to turn 2. multi speed (not the auto adjust to your walking speed! 3. easy to start. Also, but not as important is 4. Key start 5. Port for water hose
Any ideas?

The Toro 20092 Super Recycler self-propelled lawn mower is a great helper for people who want their lawn to look good.
The Toro 20092 features the Toro Personal Pace self-propelled drive system. The Personal Pace system allows the mower to actually adjust itself to your pace rather than you adjusting yourself to the mowers pace. This feature alone makes the Toro 20092 very easy to use.
The Toro 20092 is also what Toro calls a Super Recycler. This system is only found on Toro models. The idea is to reduce visible signs of lawn cuttings. Basically, the Toro 20092 mower cuts the grass and then sends it back through the cutting system for a second time. This cuts the grass into tiny pieces that can barely be seen when they are discharged back into your grass.
The Toro 20092 may not have all the bells and whistles as some other models, but it’s a very efficient and consistent performer.

Wish it was front drive
The rear drive wheels drag when I lift the front to change direction 180 degrees. If it had front wheel drive this wouldn't be an issue because the wheels are off the ground anyway.

I must have spent two full days researching various mowers and finally decided on the Toro 20092. It was rated #2 by CR behind a Honda but after reading countless reviews and having owned a 19HP Toro tractor in the past I went with my gut.
First, dealing with Mowers Direct was flawless. I was a bit apprehensive at first not buying from a national big-box retailer site but I must admit every aspect this transaction was bang-on, billed correctly and delivered on time as promised. Kudos to the folks at Mowers Direct...very professional.
Now to the mower. I opened the box and the mower was already completely assembled save for two screws to mount the handle to the mower. Piece of cake! Read the instructions, added the fuel and oil as directed and it started on the first pull. The "Personal Pace" system is easily the best self-propelled system I have ever used. It is completely intuitive. The mulching system also works perfectly and the Briggs & Stratton engine was relatively quite with a noticeable improvement in emissions...ZERO exhaust smell whatsoever.
Overall I would have to say this is the best mower I have ever owned (and I've owned many). I would highly recommend Mowers Direct and the Toro 20092 to a friend!!!

Tried the Honda before getting the Toro upon the recommendation of my grandson. He cuts his grass with a Toro and tried the Honda when I rented it. He liked the Toro much better and I agreed. It is much quieter and lighter, and the speed is much easier to control. I like it a lot, but so far I cannot figure out why sometimes when you have to pull it backwards it moves with ease and other times it has a lot of resistance.

Happy with this purchase
Researched four rotary lawnmower brands. Everything Toro said about their 21 inch mower is the truth. Right out of the box, added oil, starts on the first pull every time. Mulching feature is amazing. One pass heavy grass clippings are vaporized. Will not kill yourself with this machine. Had major quad heart surgery. The sense pulse feature adjusts to me. Oil change directions "tip the mover to the side". Found drain plug under deck, hidden under two guard plates. Not difficult. Ball bearings make it move easy. Money well spent!

Best mower
This is without a doubt the nicest mower I have ever owned. Put gas and oil in, started on first pull. Clean out feature is super. Mowing is so easy. Would not sell mower for twice what I paid for it if I couldn't buy another one.

WOW, So far so Great
Just purchased mower yesterday from a local store. After looking for a month and reading all kind of reviews, this is by far the BEST mower I have ever used. It actually cut the mowing time for me by 1/4. I used the mulching system for the first time - I always bag my grass - and you couldn’t tell the difference. The yard looked great. Clean up was very easy and the stand-up handle worked perfect for the storing. The mower stated with one pull every time. The personal pace system is awesome (I had read that some didn’t like it) you can really get a workout on fast pace, but the yard still looks great. The extra features on this model, Steel top and the grease fittings should make this mower last for years. Expensive, but well worth the money. I would give it a 5 star but have only used it once. Come on grass grow...

Best Mower you can buy
I own the TORO model 20043 which is the older model to this one. I love this mower. I have not had many issues with the mower. I have had to replace a couple wheels and have performed regular maintenance on the mover every year. I have owned this mower for 12 years and it seems ready to go another another 12. My father in law is now on his third mower and we purchased mowers a week apart. He went with John Deere and I went with TORO and we both paid about the same for the mowers. The Personal Pace feature is what will keep me with TORO. I cannot see myself with a "self adjust" speed mower again. They are either too slow or too fast. With the Personal Pace feature the machine goes as fast or as slow as you want to go. Buy this mower you will not be sorry it could be the last mower you ever have to buy...

So Far So good....
Bought this mower when the consumer price quote for a Honda was way off and the nearest dealer was 30 miles away. I was use to the variable speed Lawn Boys but quickly adapted to this one. My wife will like it in that she sets the pace not the mower. The dealer said there had been some who were not able to easily adapt to the newer propulsion mechanism.

Mower Speed
If you can, then try this before you buy it. I bought it and hate it because it speeds up or slows down depending on how much pressure is on the handle. You might like it. I hate it. I want to adjust the speed and then either go or stop. I don't want my lawn mower deciding how fast I should (or should not) go.

I was using the 22'' Toro recycler that I bought last year refurbished from a big box store. I decided to try this model after reading about it in Consumer Reports. I cut about 2 acres and use clippings for mulch around plants. I'm an avid gardener, vegetables and flowers, fruit trees, everything.
They didn't have this mower at the big box store in my area, southeast Louisiana, so I decided to give this a shot. Free Shipping to my house, plus no tax, hmmm what's the catch?
There is no catch!!!! I ordered on Friday, May 7th and would have received shipment on Tuesday May 11th if I would have answered the call from the shipping company on Monday. Wow!
This mower is so much easier to push than the other one I had and it picks up everything. I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. I want to go around the neighborhood and tell people about it, but my neighbors aren't nearly nice enough to get this free info!
I don't usually write reviews, but this is too good to keep to myself. Trust me, get this mower from Mower's Direct.

Works so well
I am starting my 11th season with this mower. I change oil and filters every year and spark plug every other year. It starts on first or second pull every time.
The Personal Pace system is the best. My neighbor is on his third different mower during this same time period.
I mostly mulch but occasionally bag; and keep a sharp blade on it.
I wish it had the garden hose hook-up for cleaning like the new models have, but this one works so well I can suffer with it.
