Q: Does the RTB14544 have a clutch mechanism that disengages if the blades are both brought to a stop?
I heard that the 54 inch model does but I don't see this called out in the specs. by Duane Wiles from Washington on May 22, 2012
A: Duane
This mower does have that feature. You engage blades by pulling down the T-handle lever into the horizontal position. You return lever to the vertical position to disengage blades. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: On the Swisher RTB14544, how far ahead of the hitch attachment point can the 'remote' control be mounted? I plan on pulling this with a Gator-type utility vehicle. One of the competing brands specifically said that if the box on the back of a utility vehicle was longer than 2 feet, you could not mount their models to a utility vehicle as the operator could not reach the controls.
Thanks
Martin by Martin Stover from Texas on April 26, 2012
A: Martin - On a current 44" RTB model Trail Cutters, the control box attaches to the hitch bar directly behind the attachment point. No longer does the box attach to the pulling vehicle. And Swisher no longer offers any sort of longer wiring harness so that the control box can be mounted to the tow vehicle. If you want to mount the control box to your tow vehicle, you will have to step up to the 52" RTB model, which still has the tow vehicle mounting option. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: I have a pond with steep banks and a flat trail around it. I would like to ride safely on the flat trail and use the pull behind at a sharp side angle to the waters edge six feet down and to the side. Is the draw bar long enough and can the engine work at a sharp angle? by Jon Swanson from Illinois on October 29, 2011
A: Jon - it is not recommended that you run any of the Swisher tow-behind mowers on a bank or slope that is greater than 15 degrees of slope. All of these mowers have a "splash" type lubrication system, and running them on slopes more severe than 15 degrees may cause the oil to not fully lubricate all the engines parts. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Hi, I have a 3 acre piece of land that must be cut twice a year for weeds. The weeds vary in type but are usually about 3 feet high. No grass, just lots of weeds. The land is totally flat with no obstructions. Will this do the job and cut the weeds down? If not, what would you recommend? by Nelson from California on July 24, 2011
A: Nelson - this Husqvarna tractor definitely will NOT handle 3 foot tall weeds. For this type of task, you would need a Swisher tow-behind trail cutter. Q: Hello - I own a camp that has about 1 mile worth of trails and a 3-4 acre meadow with hills that is mostly grass. We have a lot of rocks and debris on the property, as well as uneven areas, and have already destroyed an old push mower's deck and blade! We are looking for the best option to keep our trails and meadow mowed. Obviously, we need a heavy duty mower of some kind. Neither of these areas will get out of control with growth as they will get mowed at least once every two weeks. What do you recommend? by Chris Nicol from New York on March 29, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. This Swisher trail cutter would be perfect for your application. It is very durable and can handle uneven areas no problem. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: I AM INTERESTED IN A ROUGH CUT TRAIL MOWER. I WILL BE CLEARING AREAS WITH TREE SPROUTS AND HEAVY GRASS. I WANT ELECTRIC START AND REMOTE BLADE ENGAGEMENT. DO YOU HAVE A RECONMENDATION FOR ME? ALSO I UNDERSTAND IF I PURCHASE FROM YOU THERE WILL BE NO SALES TAX OR SHIPPING CHARGES. IS THAT CORRECT? by MATT NOLL from Kansas on March 14, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. The Swisher RTB14544 is perfect for this application. It is equipped with a 12 volt key start and the remote blade engagement you are looking for. We do not charge any shipping and do not charge sales tax if you are shipping outside the state of Illinois. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Looking at getting a pull behind type mower to replace our riding lawn mower. We live on 5 acres that has plenty of rills to it. Most of the rocks have all been moved but there are a few that seem to grow out of the ground (no more than 4 to 5 inches). With our riding mower I clear most everything but have to be extremely careful. Most of what is to be mowed will be tall grass and a few saplings. I will be using a Polaris RZR to pull the unit so weight and size isn't an issue. Just want to make sure I get a unit that can be adjusted to clear those rocks. Also something that will handle the uneven ground with potential rocks below.
Thanks by Micah from California on March 13, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. This particular tow behind mower is perfect for your application. This mower will handle uneven ground and navigate rocks with no problem. It is equipped with an offset adjustment as well. by Todd, Product Expert
The Swisher RTB14544 TrailCutter is pretty much the same unit as the RTB12544, except that the engine is a 14-1/2HP Briggs and Stratton, and it has an electric start.
The 44 inch cutting deck is made of 11-gauge, welded steel and has a rear discharge design. The deck height can be adjusted using a convenient, single-lever cutting height adjustment. The deck, blades, and height adjustment are all very easy to use. Mow through heavy brush, grass, weeds, and tree saplings with ease. Cuts most woody materials up to 1-1/2" in diameter.
The Swisher RTB14544 uses twin heavy-duty hardened steel cutting bars to make short work of brush. These two cutting bars swing back and forth like a pendulum instead of spinning in a full circle.
The Swisher RTB14544 TrailCutter also features a universal articulating hitch that allows you to “offset” the mower – the easy adjustable left-to-right hitch enables you to cut to the left, the right or directly behind your ATV or lawn tractor.
