Q: Is this a 4-cycle? Why cheaper than other 4-cycle?

A: This would be a 4-cycle engine on this. The reason for this being cheaper would be because it is a closeout with us, as Snapper is no longer doing 4-cycle engines on trimmers. The parts are still available for something like this if they were needed, but that would be why this is cheaper.

 OK trimmer

I'm happy with the ruggedness and quality of materials, however, I think that this 4 cycle engine way under-powered.

 Lack Of Information

I purchased the Snapper SST-CV convertible edger/trimmer. The Owner's Manual for the unit shows artist concept drawings for the attachments and have little or no descriptive information on how to use and how to obtain spare parts etc.

There is no information on the edger blade or brand names of the attachments. I would not purchase this unit until more information is made available- for safety and maintenance purposes.

MD RESPONDS: The very last page of the manual lists Snappers contact number (1-800-935-2967) and their web site (www.snapper.com) to answer any questions you may have.

 Not Recommended - Not rugged

I bought this model two years ago. I use line trimmers to clear my property of weeds (approximately) 0.4 acre of hillside. Last year I used the trimmer twice to do the clearing. This year it would not start, and turned out being a burned out ignition coil. The mechanic explained that many line trimmers are not meant to be run for long periods of time, and the engines get so hot that they transfer heat to the ignition coil which is why they burn out. He advised against even fixing the unit. I used it one more time, and now the plastic head cracked...The mechanics recommendation is to buy ... more

Very reliable, very strong, well built. I have two on my landscape trailer (lawn care pro.) It competes with anything out there. Snapper is a great name......

 Very Powerful- High Quality

I have been using this trimmer for several days now. It has a lot of torque and has been able to handle everything that I have thrown at it.

The engine starts easily, usually on the first pull and it is very comfortable to use. It is very balanced and the included strap allows you to easily clear large areas without killing your back.

Changing from the trimmer attachment to the edger takes just a couple of seconds.

I think it is the best trimmer I have used and I am impressed with the quality of this machine.
