I bought this Snapper riding lawn mower in 2009 - the mower was a 2008 model. As far as the mower goes it runs well and for the price I'm satisfied except for a couple complaints. The hood has four parts two sides one top and the front. This is a very poor design. The light tab's that hold the hood on the bracket that lift the hood up broke and now I am having to have it welded. Also the seat does not go back far enough.

Snapper 24hp 52" cut GT
Great mower. Ordering was easy, delivery to my house was on time.
Easy to put seat on and steering wheel on. Ran and cut grass all summer with no problems.
Seat on this rider could be a little more better, it slides you forward all the time but this is minor.
I would buy another one.

TOUGH WORKHORSE STRAIGHT FROM CRATE
In '09 we moved to an 8 acre hobby farm where I mow an acre and a half of rough, armadillo-potmarked yard.
Before I removed the Snapper from it's crate, I inspected every nut, washer, bolt, and wire connection. I read the manual for routine maintenance... only then did I fill it with gas, back it off the crate and immediately start mowing.
The yard looks fantastic. The only small thing I've found is that the leveling wing nut may loosen and the deck needs to be relevelled perhaps every other mowing.
Other than that the tractor is smooth, and effortless to operate... A few years ago I had a stroke and the two hours I spend on the Snapper is less tiring than the twenty minutes I spent pushing a self propelled.
This is a tough little machine and you will not find a more reliable garden tractor at a more reasonable price... also they are made in Wisconsin... keeping Americans working!!!

Frustration for the first 33 hours
Nothing but trouble in the first 33 hrs.
I checked the Internet in the fall of 2008 to find a good mower. Since Snapper had a good write up I bought a tractor and used it a little in 2008. It takes about 1 hr to mow my lawn.
In July 2009 after having used the tractor for 16 hrs the mower blades stopped turning. The tractor was picked up to check & adjust the clearance in the R&R PTO. A couple of weeks later after blowing some fuses, the tractor had to go back to repair a pinched wire.
Now, June 2210 I have 33 hrs of use and the mower has to go back again for unknown repairs, because the blades won't turn. PTO, loose wire?
I told the dealer that I had enough and would like to get rid of this tractor. He offered to pick it up free of charge and check it out. If its the PTO, it would still be covered by warranty. But the frustration and only 33 hrs of use!
MD RESPONDS: We checked our files, and didn't see where you had purchased the mower from us so we are limited in how much we can help.
You may want to give the folks at Snapper a call at (800) 935 2967. There may be a service bulletin about your situation that your repair place may not have had a chance to read.
Be sure to have the serial number of your unit handy when you call- that way they can easily find any information pertaining to your unit.

NOTHING BUT TROUBLE!
I was so excited to finally get my new Snapper in September 2009! I was less than pleased that it came with a dead battery that was two years old. I replaced it and mowed...it back fired and smoked a good bit.
The next time I attempted to mow...it would not crank. Had to replace the battery again. Now about to return the third battery...the machine will not keep a charge...do not know what is going on.
I used to think Snapper meant quality...it has failed in my book...what a hassle for such a large purchase right out of the box. I have never had such problems with a brand name mower. Maybe I should have stuck with a no name mower...and been happy.
I am nothing if not ticked.
MD RESPONDS: We were happy to reimburse you for your first replacement battery. Your unit comes with a 2 year warranty, so we suggest you contact your local Snapper Service Center to check over your mower.
You can called Snapper Tech Support (toll free) at (800) 935 2967 to see if they can help you trouble shoot the problem over the phone; or their Service Locator shows a service location less than 2 miles from your zip code: Colbert Lawnmowers at (706) 788-2878.

Newbie on 2 acres
I ordered the Lt1002452 tractor last fall at the year-end close out price. It came and sat garaged in the crate all winter.
I discovered that the only way to extract it from the crate was to cut away all impeding wood. The directions indicated that at this point it should be able to simply drive it off the crate... not that easy. The front and rear wheels were inset between blocks.
The only way I was able to lift the cutting deck from the frame was to use a hydraulic jack at the transmission rear to slip wheel boards in level, and then repeat the process carefully at the front frame.
The battery was dated 2 years old; it was brand new, but won't take charge. Rather than hassle with warranty over $20 I walked out of a Big Box Store with one, charged it in 2 hours, and started mowing 1.75 acres.
I finished in less than 2 hours.
The foot controls and padded high-back seat easily allowed assimilation for mind, body and machine to move as one. The deck rollers made even my mole hole test range look smooth... finished with fuel in the tank too!!!
On a side note, years ago I owned a SNAPPER front tine tiller. It too was built to run strong longer than the owner
Unsolicited endorsement: the mower arrived as promised, in undamaged condition, with a smooth engine, and mowed right out of the crate.
MD RESPONDS: Letting the battery freeze in the garage over the winter would have probably have voided its warranty.
To keep your new battery in good shape, take it out of the mower over the winter & store where it won't freeze. A trickle charger might help, too.

Just as advertised
I haven't gotten to use my mower yet, but I did put it together and try it out.
When I say put it together, I mean I put on the steering wheel and seat- it was great.
Everything was just as advertised, and it arrived when Mowers Direct said it would.
It was crated so well, it would have been difficult to damage.
I saved a lot of money buying this way. Be sure and pay the extra for the lift gate, unless you have a loading dock.
Very satisfied.

Can't beat it at any whwere near the price...
I could have saved about $200 buying this from Mowers Direct.com - but too late for that now :O)
Anyway, I will tell you about this tractor. I have had my fair share of tractors, some as high in cost as $5000 & this is the all around best one for mowing I have ever owned.
The build quality is FAR above anything sold in the big box stores for around the same price. The deck and mounts are really thick steel like they used to use on older tractors. The controls are smooth & easy to use. The 52" deck with the nose roller & 4 guide wheels produces as smooth of a cut as you will ever see.
The mower spindles are greaseable from the underside of the deck and it has a cast iron front axle. The 24 HP Briggs is smooth & powerful.
The only minus points are for a non-adjustable seat (I took the seat apart & drilled new holes in the seat pan to move it back - I'm 6'2" @ 220.) & it has a fairly small gas tank.
After a great deal of competitive shopping, I can say you would have to spend at least $3000 or more to get anything equal to this.
An excellent value- you won't be sorry.
