Great Quality For The Price
I have only used it 4 times but I have found it very rewarding. It cuts even with every pass. When my yard is finished, that's exactly what it looks like, finished. It starts on the first turn of the key. Not the best turn ratio, but easy to put in reverse back up and then keep on mowing. A great machine for the buck. Just love it. Uses less gas than my push mower did. Kinda makes ya wanna ride around for awhile, if ya know what I mean.
Pros: Price, Easy To Use, Durable, Light Weight, Exceeded Expectations, Reliable, High Quality, Easy To Store, I'd Buy It Again

First Riding Mower I Have Ever Owned
Retirement saw the need for something other than a walk behind mower for doing lawns for ourselves and our rental next door. Finding a riding mower cutting size less than 38" was difficult, but this one seemed to stand out because of its 30" size and good review comments. Once I figured out which lock outs needed to be in place to start it, I was mowing within minutes. I have mowed twice and it gets easier to operate at the proper speed, mower deck level and use of the brake gets more... more

"First, the unit was shipped free which was a big savings. Then, there was the option to purchase with a check to save a few dollars, which I did, but it took a little longer to get the mower because the check had to clear first. But I was notified via email whenever there was a change in my order status, i.e., "check has cleared", mower was shipped", etc. It also provided me with a tracking number and a shipping company so I could see the shipping status. This was critical since I had to let the shipper know when they could deliver it as I was going to be out of town when it was supposed to arrive and I had to postpone delivery for a few days. All in all it was a very good experience."

Happier After Each Mowing
Shipping was fast. Arrived in a timely manner. Didn't appreciate paying extra for a lift and definitely couldn't have gotten it off the truck without the lift. The assembly directions were good, except connecting the battery should have been done before assembling the seat and motor cover. Very hard to get to the battery as a last step, but that's the order things appear in directions. So, all set to mow! Well, not really. The battery was finally hooked up, but dead, probably from sitting on a... more

Keeps Me Mowing
I am an 81 year old man and decided it was time to get a rider to take a little work out of mowing my moderately large lawn and it has done that. Since this is my first riding mower, it has taken a little getting used to but that has not been too much of a problem. The mower works well and does everything as advertised however I have one regret. I wish I had of gotten a mower that mows in reverse. The reverse on the Troy-Bilt is awkward and nearly useless except for getting away from... more

My First Rider
After 40 years of walking behind my mower on about 1/2 acre, I finally decided to upgrade to a rider. Chief consideration was given to fitting the mower in my storage building - the door is 42" wide, so the TB30R cleared the door fine. I have always caught clippings and disposed in a large compost area behind our property, but at 70+, this was getting to be more difficult. I didn't buy the bagger, but have the mulching kit ordered to see if that will prevent the strips of cut grass that... more

Don't Judge A Mower By It's Cover!
I wanted to wait until I used the mower a few months before I would give it a review. I bought this mower back in March '13 under good reviews and with the confidence of owning Troy-Bilt mowers in the past. Good experience with the purchasing, receiving and start-up sections (however, I did have to follow-up with MD to get my free mulching kit). Because this is a relatively light-weight mower, the front end does not turn easily around trees and on slight hills. In fact, after making a recent... more

Product Expert
Patrick,
We do apologize for any confusion you may have had. In terms of the mulching kit, this was something which was supposed to be included with all of these mowers. The problem was Troy-Bilt went ahead and discontinued this feature without actually notifying anyone of the change as the specs stayed the same. In terms of the recent purchase, the mower would not be listed any longer as Troy also decided to come out with a unit with a larger engine. We are not sure as to why they chose to do this during the season, but these are issues we cannot always control. Again we do apologize and are more than willing to assist in any issue you may have.

Carburator Problem Right Out Of The Box
Mower started right away but engine ran roughly and would surge. I called Briggs Stratton and their tech listened to it run over the phone and said there was definitely a problem and to take it to an authorized repair shop. Fortunately my neighbor has a pick up and helped me haul it to the shop. Repairman is still working on it. He tells me it is the second Troy-Bilt with the same problem he has had in two weeks. If I had known a new model was coming out I would have waited. I wish I could... more

Troy-bilt Tb30r
The unit was shipped very rapidly, and package good. Putting it together was very simple. I have only used it a couple of times, and am still getting use to it. I found it not as stable as I thought it would be, and stuck going around trees, which I have in my front lawn. Had to get off mower and push it by hand at one spot. The turn ratio is not to good, can not complete a four foot circle. It could have slightly more horse power for going up a grade. I don't think it is any better than a... more

Suggestions For Future Purchasers
The mower arrived 7 days after placing my order (instead of the two days that was shown at the time the order was placed). I would strongly suggest that you or Troy Built include a comment about trouble shooting, specifically the interlock mechanism on this mower and how to enable this interlink, since the mower will NOT start without this information. My son spent a frustrating evening trying in vain to start this mower.

After speaking with a technician at the local Troy Built service... more

Roy's 11.5 Hp Troy Built Riding Lawn Mower
This mower cuts grass fine.. I bought it because I could drive it through my gates between front and back yards. My main complaints are that it is jerky to drive and that the battery is located in a place nearly inaccessible to service. It has enough power and maneuvers Ok for my yards. I knew it would not cut in reverse. Inconvenient ,but no big deal. The size is perfect, but it needs refinement in its operating controls to really be what I like. Look at hydrostatic controls and this... more

A Real Review From A Real Customer.
First off, I am a real customer and this is a real review.

It's a good mower. I recommend it. I have a typical house 2k on a 10k lot. I have mowed my own lawn since I was a boy and my son has been mowing it for the last three years. I got tired of fixing sprinklers that I didn't break and took back the job to find that this old back wasn't quite up for the challenge. I'm in great shape but I fear I may have a herniated disc in my upper back and being 6'5 bending over behind the push mower... more

My Husbands New Toy
This purchase was a new toy for my husband. He has been wanting a mower like this since he saw "Forest Gump". Mowers Direct was awesome...from the purchase to the delivery! And my husband loves the mower. I have recommended Mowers Direct to several people and I know at least 1 purchase has come from my recommendations. Thanks again!

Regained My Independance !
Due to service connected injuries, as a disabled vet. I became unable to cut my grass with a push lawn mower. My injuries to my lower spine and both knees, I had to pay a person to do it for me. To regain my independence back and save some money I went on the internet to find a sit down lawn mower. I found your site and a small sit down lawn mower. I am now so happy every time I must cut my grass. Its like having a new toy to ride around in and I'm getting my outdoors work done too! The only... more

Excellent Mower For Small Gated Yards
I needed a riding mower that would fit though two yard gates of 38 and 42 inches respectively. This one fit with a few inches to spare (34 inches wide without side discharge chute installed). Ordered a mulching kit from a different retailer as the Direct Mower site listed it as discontinued. The mulching kit (just a cover) made it possible to not have to remove and reinstall the side discharge chute when going through the gates.
Paid extra for the lift gate service and the R&L... more

My Rider
I am a very happy camper. I have been researching for a good small riding mower for months and I came across this great website with very good prices, ratings and information for each piece of equipment they sell. I finally made up my mind for a good investment on this rider, made the order on a Tuesday night and on Friday mid morning I get my toy. WoW! This is what I call excellent service, from the moment I made my order, when I contacted the delivery folks and until I received it at home. ... more

Our New Troy-bilt
We absolutely love our new riding mower! Our old mower was 14 years old and had seen its better days. My husband had some health issues & I took over mowing duties for a while. It did not have an electric starter and was difficult for a female with limited upper body strength to start. Our new Troy-Bilt has an electric start & is a true blessing!! It steers so easily and pulls our hill with such ease. Not to mention easy on the pocketbook.

Great Mower
I can only give a partial review as I have not been able to mow my lawn yet as the grass has not grown enough to need mowing due to our cold and cloudy weather here in New England this Spring. However, I have run the mower around the yard to get used to it and am very impressed with it. It starts up right away and runs great. I especially like the short turning radius and the ease of steering with the rack and pinion system. I can hardly wait for the grass to grow so I can see how it mows! ... more

So Far So Good
Purchased this mower on March 30, and it was delivered April 3. After reading the owners manual, I fired it up and it started right up. I have a 36" gate to pass through and this was my first concern. No problem, it passed through with inches to spare. First day I mowed the front - flat 1/4 acre. I found deck setting 3 ideal for me. Next day I mowed the back - 1/2 acre with mild incline up to house. Again, no problems. Pushing a walk behind 21" in Florida heat was no longer... more

Don't Believe Everything That You Read
Learned one thing for certain. Just because you do your home work. Read the reviews, access the options, and receive good service does not insure you will get the mower you hope to get.

I purchased the Troy-Bilt TR30R from Lowes after reading all the reviews I could find. I chose it over the Craftsman primarily because of the Briggs & Stratton engine vs the new MTD engine used in the Craftsman. Even though I liked the features of the Craftsman better. (Both mowers are made by MTD and... more

Snapper Knock-off
I purchased this mower back in March and I believe it was my worst investment ever. Not only did it cut my lawn uneven, it scalped it even on a number three setting. I had trouble with the seat from day one, the steering wheel always seems to be out of alignment and the deck lacks extra wheel support. Traction control is rated poorly and it gets stuck on inclines often. The child protection cutting in reverse button works when it wants to work and the deck was covered in rust in no time. I... more
