Disappointed
I'm as so disappointed with this product. I broke down on my after 3 weeks since I bough it. I had to bring it over to Toro dealer for repair. :(

The repair was around $430 which I didn't have to pay since it was covered under manufacturer warranty. I wonder what happens when it breaks down again after the warranty expires.

Sad.

Under Powered
If you have a flat yard and mow your lawn every 3 days when the grass is totally dry, this may be the machine for you. This is a finish mower - not the type you want for the everyday lawn mowing.

Stalls when you engage the blade, stalls when the grass is a bit long, stalls when the grass is damp, have to push it up steep slopes. On the down slopes you have to use all of your strength to hold it back. It is underpowered and clunky. Remember, this is a $1,000 machine and not a $300 mower!

This is my third Toro mower. The first two were 21inch mowers and both were very good. The 30 inch TimeMaster is a big disappointment. I have had it for four years and had to replace the V belt that goes from the motor to the timing belt every other year.
It is under powered but uses about more gas than either of the 21 inch mowers.

Also it cannot pull itself up a small hill in my yard, I have to push. The 21 inch mowers never had trouble with the hill. Do not cut thick grass with it,... more

Toro 30" Cut
I own a Toro TimeMaster (30") 190cc Self-Propelled Lawn Mower w/ Electric Start and mulching kit, that I bought in 2015. The mower is the best mower I have ever owned, and I have owned Honda, John Deere, and Lawn Boy mowers over the past 50 years.

The personal pace feature is incredibly sensitive to my change of pace as the grass conditions change. When changing direction the disengage and re-engaging of the drive wheels, it is so effortless that the mower seems lighter than it really... more

Big Pile Of Garbage
How do I start, just over a year, I have replaced 2 drive pullys going to have to replace the drive belt again 2nd 1 in 3month spans. Drive belt constinately slipps so I'm have to shove it up hills. Won't cut grass if thick and wet. Had to replace cable that engages blades. The only good thing about it is it will cut your time in half of under the right circumstances
Pros: Easy To Use, Light Weight, Not Worth The Money

Mowing a flat lawn is no problem and the drive assist works great in there, but you'll soon realize how heavy the mower is when you have to push it up a slight hill. It doesn't have the power. Also be prepared to run when going down hill as it wants to take off if using the drive assist.

Another FYI: turning on the mower blades almost makes the engine stall. Other than those issues, it starts right up and will mow flat lawns like a charm, only my lawn has hills. Anyone want to buy a mower?

All The Bad Reviews Are The Truth!!!
Bought this in 2013, should have returned after the first time I used it. The ONLY good thing about this mower is it almost always starts on the first pull. It is under-powered, the drive system is a good idea but it doesn't work well. The cut is terrible, leaves a trail of partially cut grass about 6 inches in from the right rear wheel. Most times I have to go over areas twice, that doesn't save much time. Grass sticks to the deck like you wouldn't believe, even dry grass.

I am very displeased with the purchase of my new 20200 Toro mower. We purchased it from Mowers Direct less than a month ago. The first time I used it, it was great. The second time I used it, the electric start required several attempts before the motor started.

Once it started it was good, but the start concerned me. My third attempt, this time using the bag, the mower would not re-start at all with the manual pull or the electric start. After sitting for 15 minutes, it would sometimes... more

Daniel,
We are sorry to hear you are having trouble with your Toro mower. For starting issues please bring your Toro mower to the nearest dealer for servicing within three years of your purchase date and Toro will fix your unit for free.

First be sure to have your mower filled up with fresh gasoline. Old gas can also lead to problems starting. If you have last season's gas in your mower, drain your fuel tank and fill with fresh gas. Other possible causes include:

Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten.
Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace.
Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn't work, you might need a new fuel filter.

A Great Step Up From A Smaller Walk-behind
I had a 20" walk-behind mower when I moved into a new house with a larger (0.32 acre) yard. I really liked my previous walk-behind for its ease of storage and use, but it was taking too long for me to mow the new yard. I didn't want to get a ride-on mower because of storage concerns, and I am not a fan of pistol grips on mowers.

The Toro TimeMaster is almost as easy to use and store as my previous mower, and cut my mowing time by about 40%. The handle is easy to fold up for storage and... more

got my mower this spring was on time and after checking the machine over, put fuel in it and it started right-up. After a few cuts I notice that it would not go up a small incline on my property..so this was a concern for me because the self-propel feather was the most important for me..

so I decided to put it up for sell and buy a new and different model mower, as I began to prepare this unit for sell, by checked all of the mechanisms to ensure it was in fine working condition, I notice... more

30" Toro Self-propelled Lawn Mower With Electric Start
First one we received the left front tire would not touch the ground. This one was sent back and received a replacement. the replacement would not track straight - you would fight it to mow a straight line. being we had put gas and oil in the mower, we could not return this one. We ended up taking it to an authorized Toro dealer to get it fixed - under warranty.

Just Right
This is an excellent grass-cutting machine. The electric start is perfect for an 85 year old man. Easy to use---not complicated at all. My 9/10 acre lot goes faster with the 30 inch cut.

A bit heavy for a lot of close cutting, but great for larger areas. Divide the yard in sections and cut whole yard in 3 outings for terrific exercise versus the big rider.

Great Mower! Runs Strong!
I have a little over an acre to mow and this mower does an outstanding job! Runs as fast, or as slow as you walk. One problem- gas tank is much too small. I have to fill it up 3 times to finish my yard.

Advice- DON'T pay the ramp lift fee for delivery! I paid it and ended up lifting it off the truck!

Very surprised at how quickly the mower arrived! Just a few days after purchase! Setup was very easy. Started right up with electric start. Easy to change height, and mower easily cut through relatively tall, damp grass. Still getting used to the personal pace feature. I love that you can store this with the handle perpendicular to the ground.

Would prefer having 2 keys (only shipped with one) and would prefer an oil drain hose like the one on the Craftsman 28 inch. It used to take... more

My New 30" Toro
My investment in purchasing my Toro has been one of my best decisions I've ever made. She is just what the doctor has ordered. The cut is perfect. It is the perfect mower to get into those back yards that has those three foot gates. I am really enjoying the electric start instead of pulling on a rope. It starts right up with the turn of the key. Thanks so much Toro...

I looked at this mower for months, both on the Mowers Direct web site and at Home Depot locally. I read every review and almost decided against it based on some of the negative reviews. But I felt the good outweighed the bad and went ahead and ordered it.

Garbage
This mower is the biggest piece of garbage out there. I live in Connecticut on a 1 acre lot with a few hilly areas. You MUST mow your lawn every 4 days or the mower will stall every time you attempt to mow even slightly tall grass. I always mow when the grass is dry so that isn't the problem here...it's the underpowered Briggs motor. If you look at other mowers around this size they have around 14hp, this one is nowhere near that. Save your money, try something else.
Pros: Easy To Use
Cons: Expensive, Unreliable, Underpowered

Possible Boat Anchor
It might make a good boat anchor, but I have my doubts.

I'm convinced the people at Toro wanted to market a wide area walk-behind mower at the $1,000 price point. Maybe they succeeded, but they built almost a non-functioning mower.

The six or so HP engine leaves the mower woefully underpowered. This means it cannot straighten the grass blades before cutting them and it makes for a shabby cut. Additionally, the puny engine does not make it up a small eight foot hill in our yard, so I... more

Finally A Mower For The In Between Size Yard
This mower is as advertised, a time saver. The electric start model is obviously easy to start, just turn the key. I have .4 acre, mostly level with eight trees and four landscape beds, a rider would be a challenge to maneuver around some of the tight spaces so a walk behind is almost a necessity. Compared to my 22" Toro Personal Pace, this machine cuts my mowing time by 40%. The cut is beautifully even and it mulches excellently. I have not had to "bag" this season. No... more

Everything But Engine Strength
30" mower is a great idea. I actually enjoy walking behind this mower after 14 years of sitting on a rider. Features on this mower are well designed. Mulching is very good, but here is the rub, Toro did not put enough power on the deck. Engine stalls when engaging the blades. Bogs down in thick grass occasionally stalls. Not enough power to get the grass into the bag. For the price it should have more power.

Overpriced, But No Competition...
@ $1k +, I think slightly over priced, but it's a one of a kind. Out of the box, stock blades do not generate much lift as many have noticed. The commercial Time Cutter blades do fit and provide much more lift, however, they do steal more engine power. I primarily bag due to battling an on-going lawn fungus issue. The deck does cake easily with clippings, but does not appear to impact performance much (at least for bagging). I removed the blue hill assist squeeze handle.... I found I never... more

It does the lawn in great style, does what it advertises, electric key start starts right-up and you're on your way. I only wish that I had a machine such as this for the past 40 years. It is expensive, heavy and is not quiet but very easy to operate on flat or hilly lawns. I've used it for six weeks, so far so good. Just turned 80 and it is faster than my other lawn mower.

Toro Timemaster Mistake
I bought a Toro Timemaster 20200 in March to cut my Zoysia front lawn. Especially appealing was the 30" wide cut.
Mower starts fine but it has trouble cutting, it seems to lack power. I investigated and found the engine (190 cc) is same size they put on the 21" mower???? The bagging system will only fill the bag halfway. If I try to use mulch mode the mower will stall. I am only trying to remove 1/4" of grass.
Most annoying is advice I received from Toro tech support. To... more

Excellent Mower
This mower meets all my needs for a large and rather hilly yard. It goes up and down the slopes with little effort. Easy to start, I rarely need the electric starter as it starts on a single pull 95% of the time. My yard is large enough that the 30" cutting path is a good thing to have. If it would self clean I would be even happier, but it doesn't take very much effort to clean it anyway.
Pros: Easy To Use, Reliable, High Quality, I'd Buy It Again

Expensive And Underpowered
I bought the Toro Timemaster 20200 because of the lawn size and grass type. I have 7000 square feet of Zoysia which is very thick, dense, and requires close mowing (1 - 1 1/2 ")
Good ponits:
- starts great
- 30" cut

Bad points:
- bagging is bad - bag will fill about half full
- motor will choke/stall in heavy grass
- I can only cut down to 2" height - mower will not move if I lower deck as it tries to push on grass
- I must sometimes push mower manually to get it moving

Don't Waste Your Money
Bad quality control. No replacement for an obvious 'lemon', worthless warranty.

After four hours of use, the start & self-propel mechanisms broke. The mower wouldn't recharge & yes, I completely went by the manual.

After over a week at the repair shop (they wouldn't replace it), it came back about 75% of what it should be doing. Repairs would have cost me a fortune, so I had to deal with it - in spite of being disabled with a bad back.

It's been six months now & the mower... more

Love It!
I have had the mower for about a month, I have mowed six times. I purposely mowed overly tall wet grass the first time. The mower struggled a bit, as to be expected, but I walked a bit slower and it chewed through it. Wet tall grass does make a mess under the deck that needs to be cleaned. The second mow was normal growth and it had no problems.

By my watch I can mow more twice as fast as I could with my 19 inch mower. I attribute this to the wider path, and the personal pace top speed... more

Not Bad
Nice mower, easy to use. Electric start is nice and it is maneuverable like a smaller walk behind. Personal pace self propel is also nice. The only thing I don't like about it is the engine. It's not big enough. It needs more power to run two blades and drive the unit. If your grass is long and you're mulching it doesn't have the power. Also, if you engage the blades to fast, it will stall. For over a thousand dollars it should have a bigger engine. Other than that it cut my mowing time... more

I bought this mower an immediately started having issues. Good, With Some Drawbacks...
Bought mine when they first came out. Had to have it serviced twice because of something getting in the fuel from the gas cap (according to service guy). Installed a fuel filter and problem gone. My yard requires many turns and lets face it...this thing is heavier and a bit clumsier to use than a 21", but tolerable. I'm 5'10" and there are 2 settings for handlebar height. I wish there was one right in between the 2 provided. Cuts dry grass well. Wet or thick grass can leave... more

Disappointed
Received the mower from PED via motor freight just fine. No problem with final assembly - very easy.

Engine seems to be a bit underpowered and the self propel works fine on flat ground but on an incline it fails terribly. Finally, had to stop mower to refill the gas and had to wait 30+ minutes for the engine to cool before it would start again. Probably would not buy another because of these problems.

Cons: Expensive, Underpowered Hard To Start When Hot And Weak Self Propel

I'm 76 years old and still enjoy mowing my lawn. It was a 2 hour job and now it's a 1 1/2 hour job. I have to say that I read several reviews that really bothered me. Toro has never let me down and I thought I would give it a try. To my amazement, it was much better than I thought it be. It takes one a little time to get use to the handling of the machine.

Ok
This machine though practical does not quite live up to its expectations. Does not like lawns with grades, for it is hard to push up inclines even though it has engaged drive which you have to hold. Would be better if front wheels swiveled. Off switch is not responsive all the time. The hose connect for cleaning the blade gauge is worthless too.

Toro Timemaster 30"
This mower needs much more engineering. I have used it for almost two seasons on a 3/4 acre lawn. If the grass has the slightest amount of moisture the mower will clog. During spring mowing (every 2-3 days) I have to rake the yard area due to deposits from the mower deck that did not make it to the bag. My lawn area has some inclines. The self propel drive on this mower is not strong enough to drive the mower when the bag is more than 25% full. Overall the idea of this 30" mower is great.... more

Awesome Mower!!
I was hesitant to order a mower online, sight unseen. But I must report that this is the best mower I have ever owned. It is completely awesome. My old mowers, riding and walk behind, would bog down in tall or moist grass. This mower plows through it all and asks for more. The mulching is so fine that you can not see any clippings.

Toro Timemaster Is Good And Bad ...
Positives: easy to store, easy to start, easy to set cutting height, easy to clean after mowing, wide cutting path.

Negatives: uneven cutting, most of the time. I noticed that if the undercarriage is really clean (I clean it out after every mowing) and if the grass is nice and dry, I get an even cut. But if the grass is the least bit damp the mower seems to have a hard time pulling it up to create an even cut between the 2 blades. Also, the mower stalls easily if you do not let it rev... more

Mulching No Problem
I've had mine almost all summer. I did not have much luck mulching in the beginning, but after a few experiments, I found that if I raised the back up 1 or 2 notches it would mulch my thick bluegrass just fine.

I have a half-acre yard with lots of landscaping to go around, and I also water a lot. I have not bagged all summer.

I am very happy with it.

Love This Mower
I haven't used it much yet, but this is a really nice mower. This size is just what I needed, it's much lighter then the 33 inch mowers out there.

The personal pace is great. One curious thing is that when you engage the blades, the engine almost dies. You have to engage slowly. I'm just going to trust that this is by design and live with it. If this is the size mower you are looking for, get this one.

I've had a lot of mowers in my days, and this is the best mower I have ever had.

So far I've had nothing but great results on my 1/3 acre lot. I'm thinking about ditching my 28" inch Snapper rider as it takes up too much room in the shed. Very impressed with quality, speed, and handling. The only complaint I have is that the blade handle bar tends to pinch the operator if it's not pressed tightly against the other handle--hope Toro takes this complaint seriously as it is a legitimate problem.

I'm very happy with this purchase. The mower is agile and easy to push. I have nearly a half acre to mow and deterioration in my lower back discs make this painful. Not to mention the Texas heat. For years and years I managed my yard with an electric corded mower. I loved that there was no gas to store, that it always started, and this is Texas that has been in a drought for years. Needs Front Caster Wheels
I love my Toro 20200! The electric start is a great feature, as is the "blade stop" while the engine is running. The mower is, however, very heavy, and would be much easier to maneuver if it had caster wheels on the front.

Having one lever to adjust both rear wheels sounds great, but the weight of the mower makes the adjustment difficult anyway.

Outstanding Product!
This mower is incredible. It's easy to start and handles so easily and effortlessly.

I used to have a riding mower and always had to clean up tight areas with my 20 push mower. None of this is necessary with the TimeMaster. The time saving is incredible, and it is actually a lot of fun to use.

I recommend this product to anyone who is looking for an alternative to the standard lawn tractor.

Toro Needs To Do Better
This seemed like the perfect answer, but is a disappointment. Bought 2 years ago. The engine bogs down in slightly tall grass and fails to bag the grass if it is just a little damp. The toothed belt failed this summer and requires $50.00 to replace. I bought the high lift blade attachment that it should come with and it does work better but the engine is still under powered.

Better The First Time Around
I purchased this exact model some 4yrs ago and have put a couple hundred hours on it without complaint. One of my sons decided to tip it over and redistribute the oil which resulting in the engine seizing when my other son started it without checking the oil. While waiting for parts to fix the first, I decided to order a second so both boys could tackle the mowing together.

I paid extra for the lift truck as required in the shipping instructions but the truck that delivered the product had... more

Fast But Under Powered In Grass Taller Than 8 Inches
The mower is fast, light and works well when mowing on a regular basis and keeping a consistent height. It does struggle with higher grass in the mulch mode. The cub cadet may have been a better choice for power, but is much heavier.

I was able to use the mower once. It was fully charged and would not start using the key, it would start when using the pull rope. It has been in the shop in Omaha, Nebraska for almost 2 weeks. When I get it back hopefully there will not be any problems.

Truly A "time-saver"
I will have to admit, the Toro TimeMaster does save me more than 50% of the time it took me to mow my lawn with a 21" push behind self-propelled mower. If your yard is too small for a riding mower and too big for a smaller walk-behind....THIS IS THE MOWER FOR YOUR YARD!
I purchased a generator from this company last year and was VERY pleased with the experience, so I came back again without hesitation and purchased this mower. I went on-line on a Monday and purchased the mower. Got a call... more

Decent Mower
Double blades don't get the blade tip speed needed to get really clean cuts or to mulch really well. The lawn is about 1/2 acre with driveways and fences. Manuverability through narrow areas has to be considered more than for a standard push mower but it's better than a rider.

The job it does is about what you would expect from a riding mower. Generally very good, but it does not suck the grass up to be cut very much.

Liars (in A Good Way)
You people lied about how much time I would save by buying this lawn mower. You said that I would save 40% mowing time. I have saved about 60%.

I have a Sears 22 inch self-propelled lawn mower. It would take me 30 minutes to mow my front yard and about 1.5 hours to cut my backyard. It took me about 40 minutes to cut both front and back.

I would have to still push my old mower some even though it was self propelled. I would have to stop and rest to many times with the old one. My new one... more

Toro! Toro! Toro!
As advertised. Order, payment, delivery, setup----no sweat.

Mower works well. Probably a little loss of power due to higher altitude --7500' above msl. Is there some way to compensate Plenty of power for some deep (neglected) grass. So far, so good. Excellent alternative to the riding mower.....cheaper, and with about 3/4 acre, I don't need to ride.

Cheers!

Best Homeowner's Twin Blade Mower
We have been looking for a 30+" mower that was not a landscaper's model (heavy and lever operated). This mower was a perfect fit for our needs. It operates exactly as a small 21" single blade style mower. The speed control is simple and intuitive to operate at a slow walk or a jog if you want. The optional electric start makes it easy for my wife to operate it as well.

I decided to step up to a larger mower just because it was time for another mower. This mower is perfect for my needs. I have a healthy lawn and I like to keep it manicured. I do have to admit it took a little getting used to the personal pace. It will go however you want to go.

Love the fine mulch that it puts back on the ground. Overall great little mower that is easy to set up right out of the box and easier to maneuver than you think. Mowers direct was awesome to deal with. No... more

The engine is too small to mulch. If your grass is healthy, the mower will stall. I have experience with other machines. For the money you can do a lot better!!

We are sorry to hear you are having problems with your Toro mower. We recommend adjusting the height of cut to a higher setting. This will lessen the amount of grass you are attempting to mow at one time, reducing these instances.

Worth The Wait
I ordered this mower back in March when it was back ordered, and it finally arrived in early May. I had one scheduling hiccup with the delivery company, but the mower was delivered, unboxed and used the same day. I had a smaller self-propelled model (different brand) for 8 years or so, and didn't think I'd like the Toro configuration. After the first use, I can't imagine going back to the old style. This mower is bigger and heavier but handles much easier. I cut my grass only once a week... more

A Disappointing Mower
There are some problems with this mower. First of all it stalls when I engage the cutter bar. It needs adjustment, it has done this every time I tried to use it. This is a big shortcoming. Secondly it stalls when I tried to cut grass about four inches tall! So I think it is underpowered. It should have a bigger engine. I would like to return it or at least have the Toro company correct the stalling problem at no cost to me since the mower has always done this since day one.

This is the best mower I've ever owned. I've always purchase 21" mowers from Sears or Lowe's. I've been wanting a wide-cut for 2-3 years. I saw this recently and had to have it. I have to say it is well worth the money. Smooth cut, powerful motor, easy push.

More on the easy push: I like to walk fast. This self-propel will wear you out. I was afraid the self-propel would be too slow. It is not. I haven't had it wide open yet and there have been a couple of times it kind of got... more

Hello to all!

Nice Mower -- Big Timesaver
It worked well until it died and would not restart while mowing under pine trees. The governor return spring got disconnected by one of the branches. I reconnected it and it started right up.

I set the blades at about 3 inches. I have used it in mulch, bag, and discharge mode on an acre lot. They all work well, even with leaves. We have a deciduous cedar-like tree and the mower picked up its heavy flat leaves.

Fast and slow range is adjustable on the fly from a very slow walk to... more

Toro Timemaster Failed Me
I researched the TimeMaster reviews and was excited to purchase one based on the Toro name, 30 inch cut, and self propelled feature. It utterly failed to cut properly in mulch setting and the local store that put it together failed in customer support. Details are as follows...

I mowed my Shag type Bermuda using a 4 inch cut clearance with a mulch set up. Shag like shag carpet. The grass is not dense, stiff and upright as you find of the Bermuda grass used at a nice golf course. ... more

My Experience - So Far!
Love the Toro Timemaster 20200 30" mower. Took it out of the box, reviewed the manual, filled it with gas and oil, and it started on first turn of the key! HOOAH!

I now cut my 1/2 acre in much, much less time than I had previously with my smaller push Toro, and with a whole lot less effort, too.

I used to use only riding mowers (Toro/Snapper) but recently decided to go with the walk behind mower for the overall exercise value. Now I can cut my sloping lawn without killing... more

Good Mower But A Couple Of Kinks So Far.
My mower ran great out of the box. My lawn is fairly thick Kentucky Bluegrass and I try to always mulch it to avoid the hassle of bagging and to return the nutrients (finely chopped grass clippings) back into the soil. I usually cut at 3 to 3 1/2". Any lower and the grass can start to clump in mulching mode, especially if the grass is lush or wet. If the grass is very dry then this is less of a problem. Mulching wet grass also causes the grass to really collect heavily under the deck,... more

The mower is terrific! I have mulched overgrown wet grass going uphill and the mower never hesitates or bogs down. I switched from a John Deere rear engined rider and have no regrets especially when I have so much more room in my shed. The only issue I have had is the washout connector is difficult to connect sometimes causing the water to stop flowing - minor problem and I think I have conquered it.

Slow Rolling
I like the mower a lot, starts every time, glad I bought the electric starter, covers are lot of territory in short time. The problem I have is with slow moving front wheels. It takes a little bit of time for the machine to get moving. I also wish the rear wheels were the driving wheels.

The weight of the mower is largely over the rear wheels and they have a better grip on the turf than the front wheels. Turning the mower would be easier if the rear wheels were driving.

Also if the... more
