Great Mower
This mower is a replacement for a HVAC mwer I had from 1995. These are the best mowers. It makes the grass look like the lawn was vacuumed.
The mower cuts effortlessly, very smooth running.

Horrible Design
I own a landscaping and Lawn service. I have 6 crews of 4 men per crew. Each crew mows about 59 yards per week. Last year I decided to go all snapper hi vac commercial units. So I bought 12 of these mowers. Big mistake. This mower is not designed for the commercial, hi use industry. We have to do repair work on several of the mowers every week. Not one of the mowers has the original handle that engages the propel.

We have had to fabricate our own handle on every one of the units. Not to... more
Pros: Quiet, Easy To Store
Cons: Expensive, Unreliable, Durability, Poor design for commercial use.

Snapper Hi-vac Commerical
Ordering from Mowers Direct is clean & simple. When I received the mower, the two cables were crossed which was different from the disgram in the owners manual. It worked out fine. However, the small speed control knob would not stay on the lever. I called Mowers Direct, they referred me to the factory.

I called Briggs $ Stratton and they transferred me to Snapper. Customer service could not find a print nor parts list for this mower which was made in December 2015, therefore, they were... more

Great Product Terrible Customer Service From Mowers Direct
Did not work out of the box took 15 to 20 pulls too get started had to take it in too be serviced when I called customer service at power direct was very disappointing they did not want to help at all terrible customer experience.

Once fixed it runs great but was without mower for over 2 weeks. Local dealer was angry I did not purchase from him but he was charging $125.00 more and another $85.00 in taxes.

I will never buy a lawn mower that does not have a Honda Engine the absolute best... more

Second Snapper
I bought my first snapper in 97 and just decided it was time for a new one other works fine just need to do a carb kit . It will be the first thing I have had to do besides yearly maintenance but is still going strong.

Haven't started the new one no need to run fuel then have to clean it out to sit for 3 or 4 months. One of the best mowers for the price. Snapper for life

Mower's Direct made my purchase effortless. Free delivery and no sales tax paid for their financing, it was a no brainer-duh. Easy to put together and starts like a dream. If your interested in buying a mower, you get what you pay for.

Re: Hard To Start Posts:
Regarding the several reviews that state the mower is hard to crank requiring many pulls -- the choke is not properly adjusted, period. Either figure out how to adjust it yourself, or take it to a small engine repair shop and have it adjusted.

If you get this right, it will crank on the first pull every time. Btw, If you bought this mower from a dealer, the choke would be adjusted by them prior to sale.

Excellant Old School Mower! Very Well Made!
I had to finally replace my old Honda HRC215, and looked around quite a while trying to find something old school, heavy duty, mostly plastic free, and non-gimicky -- good luck! After finally deciding on this particular Snapper with the Honda GXV engine. I ordered from mowers Direct -- none of the local dealers had it and didn't really seem interested in ordering one for me. Mowers Direct was great, and the Snapper arrived very quickly. After putting it together and mowing the lawn a few... more

Don't buy the B & S engine. Not dependable on starting after being run for a short time. Honda engine very satisfactory with starting. I understand from dealer I purchased the mower from, B&S engine to be discontinued in commercial line. Had two B&S mowers that would not start after short use, before the Honda that the dealer made good. I have owned Snapper mowers for over 25 yrs. and still recommend them.

Snapper Mower
I have been a gardener for 36 years and I have always used Snapper.
A few weeks ago someone stole my mower from the back of my truck.
Granted it was on it's last legs. Anyway, I saw your site and decided to purchase one from you.
My usual shop doesn't keep them in stock anymore, so they would have had to order it and it would take about a week to get.
Purchasing it from you saved me a little over $200. And it works great.

Snapper Vs Honda ?
Ok for the real deal snapper picks up the grass really good while the Honda does a better mulching job. Yes I have them both and I have been in the business for for over 40 years. Someone said they got there snapper and it did not work when really it just had a bad shipping. They should not even mow their yard hire the pro before you cut your foot off. And you should always check the oil after all it is the life of your engine. I really should not need to say all of this but some people have... more

Decent Unit
The instructions for assembly did not match what I received. I thought I was doing something wrong, but after I applied some critical thinking to the problem it appears the packaging scheme used has changed and someone forgot to tell the instruction department of the change.... After deciding the instructions were bunk, I was able to quickly assemble it on my own intuition. I was surprised that it did not come with any oil, I made a trip to HD and bought two 12 oz bottles of Honda brand small... more

Best mower.

1. Independent arc rear turning wheels/axle
2. Greatest vacuum pickup
3. Largest bags
4. Gets in and out of tighter spaces
5. Pull starting @ rear upright handles

Only possible improvement might be a folding handle for tigher winter storage.

Based on 30 years comparisons against honda or toro, with no others coming to mind...

Only A Snapper
I have used Snapper mowers for over 25 years and will continue to only use Snapper so long as they continue to make this current design. The drive system is virtually bullet proof for a homeowner and is setup for easy maintenance and replacement of wearable parts for the professional. The Briggs motor is great, but the Honda motor tends to run a little smoother overall. For the cost difference and cost of maintenance parts I'll choose the Briggs every time.

An Everyday Work Horse
I bought this same mower over 3 years ago. We run it day in and day out, it gets constantly knocked around on the trailer against other mowers and still starts first pull every time it's needed basically nothing done to it. The only difference is I went with the Briggs engine. Your complaint is to check the oil before running it? Your buying a commercial grade mower. Maybe you should hire a landscape service to mow for you. This is a good mower. Keep making it with the Briggs it's an awesome... more

Snapper For Sure
I've owned two Snappers over the last 40 years. I wore the first one out. The second one has the Robin Subaru motor on it. They quit making these babies cause they just won't wear out. I mean if they don't wear out they can't sell more, right? I've tried Sears and Toro, I didn't care for them. They vacuum up better and the self propelled ones can't be beat.

Hard To Start: Fixed It Myself
I love the Honda GXV 160 engine. Originally I had problems with it starting. I discovered after a lot of research that people complained about it being hard to start. I had the same problem, until I found out the real problem having spoken with someone who sells the unit locally. The throttle gauge needed to be adjusted correctly.

Remove the air cleaner and its cover (two screws and a nut). With a phillips head screw driver, loosen the screw holding the cable in place. Adjust the cable... more

This is my second Snapper commercial mower in 10 years. The first never, ever gave me any problems and the only maintenance done was the usual service every season. My first mower I sold to a friend when I decided to have a lawn service do the work however I've decided to do it myself again.

Bought my first Snapper Hi-Vac in 1980, with a 4.5hp Briggs. Now we replaced the engine only due to hitting a big tree root and bending the staff. We have a 6.5hp Briggs "Q" 20 years now and its a one pull start no matter what. I do yearly maintain and run an after market diamond plug.

Power Engine
After storing my Snapper from one week to the next, it takes 10-20 pulls on the starter to get it going. This is very exhausting. It wears me out before I even get started. Once it starts, it is easy, the handle with the self-propelled feature. The grass and small debris vacuums up into the bag. Leaving no after clean up of cut grass.

Overall, I am very pleased with the Snapper.
Pros: Reliable, Durable, High Quality, Fast
Cons: Difficult To Start

Sandra,
While it is strange that you are having starting problems with your Honda GX engine on that mower, which is probably one of the best engines money can buy and usually very easy to start. It is possible you could be getting some deposits in your carburetor which is making it harder to start. I would suggest picking up some ethanol treatment locally. Multiple companies make this and it is fairly inexpensive. It is ultimately a fuel stabilizer and companies like Sta-Bil, Sea Foam and STP make treatments like this. All you would need to do is add it to your can of gas and you would be good to go. This will help flush out any deposits and make sure your fuel stays fresh. This product can be found on multiple online sites as well as ours, but also can be found at auto parts stores and WalMarts.

Greatly Overrated!!!
The mower arrived in great shape and assembly was not complicated. It is well made, sturdy, and should last forever. Learning to use the ground and engine seed levers can be accomplished in the first few minutes of use.

I would recommend the manufacturer add a tag to the oil plug warning that the engine needs oil before initial use. I checked the the dip stick and found some oil on the dip stick that indicated oil might have already been added to the engine. This didn't make sense to me so... more

Lines In The Grass
When mowing there is line on grass that doesn't cut as well on the left hand side, it's not at the very edge but two inches in. I've used the standard blade that came with the mower and the ninja mulch blade and both do it, Ive tried to go slower and that does not make a difference. The only way that it is removed is if I pull the mower backwards. I love this mower it is by far the easiest to use and the self propel actually works. Great Motor, Not Sure About The Steel Deck
The timing of the review request is not the most opportune. I have had this lawnmower for 2 years and in that time I have had issues with the following:
Drive system - The 3/8-24x4.5 stud fell off the drive belt and has come off multiple times.
Wheel Bracket Latches – The bolt stripped causing the rear wheel latch, height adjuster to fall off
Rear Wheels – Both wore out in 18 months.

Terrible Cut
Let me start by saying I have always used Snappers. Bought two of these mowers for daily use. Every time I used either mower they would leave sprouts of grass behind that weren't cut. I tried raising and lowering the wheels to different levels with no better results. Took both back to where I bought them and told them of the problem. They tried them out and said that the cut looked fine to them, when there were obvious sprouts that weren't cut. He went back and sharpened the blade only to... more

This Was The Worst $900 I've Ever Spent
The mower arrived beat up, the shipping packaging was sorely lacking. The motor cowling was dented, control cables were pinched and the deck was dented. This mower claims to be a high vac mower but it will not pick up the grass it does manage to cut on the first pass. It performed so terribly I checked the blade to make sure that the dealer didn't install it backwards or upside down. I have to go over my lawn at least twice if not three times to get the grass cut at the same height. How I long... more

Ridiculous to not be able to use it without the bag. Even with the mulching blade, the grass blows right in your face. We had to create our own part, in order to use the mower with out the bag. Everything else is okay.
