Great Mower At A Fair Price
After much research and review reading I purchased this mower. I have used it on 1/4 acre several times over the last two months and couldn't be happier. It does all I ask of it and appears well built.

It bags and mulches very well, starts on the first pull, and leaves a clean even cut. It has plenty of HP and you can control the self propel from a crawl to a brisk walk.

With all the crap out there I was feeling no matter what I bought, with whatever name on it , it was a crap shoot. I... more

Not Good For Mulching
I borrowed my friend's Honda and it had a part you inserted when you mulched. I bought mine 2 years later And they changed the design to a lever for mulching or bagging. Terrible design. It leaves clippings all over the lawn. Won't buy another one.

Don't Need The $750 190cc, This 160 Has A Heart Of Gold
Originally was concerned that this mower would be under powered compared to the more expensive 190's, but its not. Starts every time on the first pull, and won't bog in heavy wet grass. Doesn't leave clumps of mulched grass behind.

Only downsides are she's a heavy weight ( 99 lbs) and the abruptness of the variable speed drive takes getting used to. Have had bad repercussions from cleaning our Toro with the water hose connections, so far haven't needed to clean this one. She is kinda hard... more

Seems To Run Fine. No Engine Problems.
While cutting my yard for the third time with the new mower, the self propelled function stopped working. It is rear wheel driven. Upon examination the bolt holding the back left wheel was just about out and the wheel was about to fall off.

I tighten the bolt and it seems to work fine. I just did not expect a structural/mechanical problem that soon. But I am still very happy with the mower. Its starts easily every time. I like the double blade feature.

Great Mower, Confusing Warranty
I borrowed this exact mower from a friend for sometime until i saved enough in the budget to buy my own. good all around mower. It is well built, powerful motor, great twin blade cutting system, the self propelling is great when its needed, and it handles well in thick tall grass.

Only downside i really have is the $$$. Overall, I would give this mower a 4.5!

Good Mower
I read a few negative reviews, but went with Consumers Report recommendation, and for the money, I am extremely happy so far. For $409, two-blade cutting is visibly better, sucks up leaves and stickes better than the Briggs & Stratton we had, and the bag collects so much and doesn't drop the cuttings when removing the bag. Handles well. Only wish it had cut a wider path.

Best Mower Ever! Go With The Honda!
I have never purchased a new mower. I've always owned someone else's hand-me-down or someone else's garbage that I had to fix to use. For the past 10 years, I've had a landscaper do it for me...

As we all know, you have to manage these folks as they get sloppy. I got tired of it and started researching mowers...Honda, Husqvarna, Cub Cadet, Toro, etc., on and on.

I bought this mower a few days ago. Got tired of the research and decided to go with my gut.

This evening, I finally got... more

Won't Pull Backwards!
Bought it in April of 2015, great mower, Starts on first pull, mulches great, picks up leaves great, but the darn thing simply will not pull backwards due to the rear drive wheels locking up. I took it back to the dealer once and they said that debris got in behind the drive wheels locking the gears in the wheels. I mowed with it once after getting it back and it worked great, put it away and when I went to pull it out of the shed it wouldn't roll backwards! I am taking it back tomorrow and... more

Not What I Expected From Honda
Luckily I don't have much to mow. It starts easy that's the good part. It has one speed and u better hang on it goes way way to fast - Its all u can do to keep up with it and I'm am 6'2"

Thus your thumbs start hurting trying to keep it under control at a reasonable speed with the thumb on/off engagement paddles. When the mower is running it is very hard to pull backwards the wheels for all intensive purposes don't roll backwards.

It's Not Your Father's Honda!!!
After using my Lawn Boy for 17 years I hated to buy a mower. Lawn Boy is no longer like we had as it's a cheap Toro. This Honda had good reviews, so I bought one LATE last year and used it about 5 times. This spring after the 2nd mowing I came to realize that this mower basically sucks.

It pulls really hard to start which my wife can't manage. Usually 3-4 pulls to start. Runs in my opinion too damn slow. Hell, Honda, what are you saving it for? Let the damn thing sing. Cuts well with dual... more

Very Poor Perfomance
I bought this mower based upon the many great reviews. I do not share their enthusiasm. The mower will not mulch, bag or discharge. The mower keeps clogging to the point killing the engine, then dumps all of the grass clipping in one spot. Called Honda they said I need to mow more often. I have been mowing for 35 years. I know how to mow and when to mow. Called Honda again. They said to take the mower for a service to look at it. The dealer said nothing was wrong, but it had a lot of... more

Self Propelled Has Never Worked Right From Day One...
I bought the lawn mower 3 years ago at (HD) and the first one I took back and it took an act of god for them to replace a 2 week old mower but they did. The reason I took it back was the self propelled part of the mower did not work. A year later same thing.. This time I put the mower in the shop and paid for it my self seeing how Honda would NOT stand behind there product. Now the 3rd year same thing self propelled system not working again. Fun To Mow The Lawn Again.
Replaced my 22 year old Lawnboy with this. I couldn't wear the Lawnboy out and finally gave it up to a relative.

I love the easy to fold down handle for storage in my small garage. Starts 1st pull 90% of the time. No choke is very nice. Make sure you fully release the paddle when pulling mower back or the wheels will lock. Quieter then the Lawnboy I had but not surprisingly quiet. Does seem to clump a lot underneath the deck but once I got WD40 applied after the first 2 or 3 clean outs its... more

Just The Best!
This is my third year with this Honda and it still starts the first time. My neighbors can't figure out why my lawn looks so well after being mowed. Comes with a great manual. I'm not too mechanical, but I change oil, clean the air filter, and I'm getting ready to replace the blades.

Mulching Leaves: My yard is surrounded by 50-year old trees so I get tons of leaves. This Honda just eats them up and spits them out as finely mulched leaves. I used to have to rake my yard several times in... more

What A Treat
Bought this a couple weeks ago and immediately used it on a small "orchard" - first mowing of the season. Grass was 8-14 inches tall. I set blade height to 3" and mowed the whole area (2000 sq ft) without bogging down.

At one point I unknowingly got the starter cord caught under a sharp-edged piece of metal on the frame and in three pulls, shredded the cord. "Damn!" I thought, "there goes a half-hour to replace it". No! It was three perfectly... more

Worst Mower Ever!
Purchased this mower almost 3 years ago, SEP 2010. I have spent over $200 in repairs, which Honda says is basic maintenance, not covered under warranty. This does not include the new transmission that was put on it. Fortunately, that was under warranty. Problem is, the rear wheels lock up sporadically when I attempt to pull it backwards to turn around. Took it to a Honda licensed repair shop numerous times. Last time it was there, the owner said he did exactly what Honda Tech support told... more

Great Mower, Problems With Delivery
The mower is great! At 160cc it far out-performs my 190cc Toro. The self-propell control took a little getting used to, but now I find it better than what I've had in the past with more direct control over speed.

My only problem with the experience is that the mower must have been mishandled during shipping. Out of the box, one of the front wheels was bent at an odd angle, and the handle was misaligned. I was able to force the handle and wheel back into positions close to what they... more

I decided to purchase a self-propelled mower as I am getting older. Read a lot of reviews and felt this one fit the bill. I am very satisfied. It has started easily and speed is easily controlled. Since it is a quality, heavy mower, it is a little difficult to pull back at times. However, I would recommend it.

I recently needed a new mower, so I consulted Consumer Reports May 2015 issue for guidance. Their Best Value Self-Propelled mower was the Honda HRR216VKA. I went online and found Mowers Direct, placed my order with standard delivery and received my new mower in 3-4 days. The mower is awesome and the service was excellent. I could not be happier.

Simply The Best
I have a small front and rear yard, but big enough to need a 21" mower. This mower does the trick effortlessly. I chose Honda because I have used their mowers in the past and countless small engines and you just can't go wrong with the brand.

The self propulsion works well so far. Assembly is so easy a small child could do the job. So far, I recommend this product for the do it yourself track home owner.

Honda Mowers, Exceptional Product.
This is my 2nd Honda mower. I wore the first one out and this is an identical replacement.

The best feature of Honda is "easy starting". After a winter shut down, I always start with two pulls, sometimes with one.

Limited Versatility
This is a quality-built mower with a number of nice features, especially the engine. But it is best used on a relatively simple (in terms of dimensions and topography) lawn where it excels in cut and ease of use. However, the weight and use of smallish wheels on all four corners make it difficult to use as a trim mower or to maneuver it tight situations. Also, wet or dry, the mower can leave a trail of grass clippings along the wheel tracks.
Pros: Quiet, Durable, High Quality, Easy To Store
Cons: Expensive, Heavy, Difficult To Use, Hard To Maneuver

Herky Jerky
Who ever designed the drive system with the paddles has obviously never mowed on anything but a golf course. On a lawn with any kinds of roughness to it it is impossible to hold the drive paddles in a constant place. As the mower handle moves around so does your dive speed! You end up playing a game of getting jerked forward or running into the mower handle as the mower changes its speed. Easier to use as a push mower.

i have had this mower for over 2 years, the only problem I have is when I clean the bottom of grass, if I use a garden hose to clean, a week later the wheels lock up when the mower is pulled backwards, although after using it for a while they start to work normally.

I have been using Honda mowers for 30 years. However this particular model is nothing but a junk. First and foremost, it does not start. Got serviced twice in two months time this year at the Honda authorized dealer , but it does not start, period.

Great Mower
Everything about this mower is great. From starting, to the twin blades, cutting efficiency, clipping size and ease of use, this is a well designed and engineered machine.

Same On You Honda
I bought this mower August 2013, so I actually used it six months. Last month the rear wheels refused to go backward no matter what I did. I took it to the dealer I bought it from and explained the situation. They said it is still under warranty so they will take a look at it. When I asked if cleaning it every time hurts it, the person said I should not ever clean the mower because it causes problems. I realized I picked the wrong dealer. After going to the Honda web site and looking at... more

Smart Drive Should Be Touchy Drive
This is my third Honda mower and my first one is still working at my daughter's home. I bought it in 1988. The second one runs , but front wheels are about to fall off due to rust and it keeps throwing the belt. This newest one starts fine, but is very difficult to maintain steady speed. Also the engine RPM is much too high. I cannot recommend a Honda mower to anyone anymore.

Too Many Pulls
Haven't had it a summer yet so hard to rate quality, etc. It has a lot of plastic, so I'm a little concerned about the long haul.. but maybe I shouldn't squawk about expectations and stick to the facts. This has "auto-choke", which might be a good thing, but too me, all it means is that I have to pull at least four times to get it started. That is annoying when the pulls are hard and you are used to a machine that starts on first pull.
Pros: Light Weight, Even Cut
Cons: Expensive

Trash
Bought this piece from the Home Depot in July 2012, and the anemic engine struggled to move it over a lawn I was easily able to push an old Murray non-self-propelled! This was the first cut, and I had to pull the old Murray back out to finish the job! In this price range, there were no mowers with stronger engines, so I kept it against my better judgement.

Flash forward almost 3 years, and the gear box decided to eat itself so the mower no longer self-propels. Back to Home Depot it went... more
Cons: Expensive, Low Quality, Unreliable, Durability
