Never Buy This Product
Sears subs out the engine to MTD that uses a Chinese built engine named ZONG. Design "flaw" at the air intake allowed dust to easily get into the engine apparently and destroy it. New on October 20, 2013, replaced motor by August, 2014, and again engine failed- new ZONG/MTD replacement again Aug., 2015.

After around 20 hrs of use between August 2015 and April, 2016, engine quit again. Sears comes out and says engine kaputz again although the 2015 engine had the design... more

Piece Of Junk
I have bought as many as five Craftsman 42 inch tractors from Sears starting back in the 70's. At first the tractors were super, I would use them 10 years and re-sell them and get me a new one. The last tractor bought a year ago is poorly built, it has broken 4 belts so far, at a cost of $100.00 each time to replace them. The Sear's techs do not know how to fix the problem. The tractor has limited power--Sears is going down in quality and service. I will not buy from them ever again.

Craftsman Quality Continues To Decline.
Bought this about a year-and-a-half ago to replace an earlier Craftsman that I used for six years before it became a maintenance headache. My first impression of this model was that it was not as sturdily built as the previous one - more vibration, more sensitive to heavy grass, idiotic interlock preventing mowing while in reverse. After about three months, it started throwing mower drive belts. I've replaced three, none of which fit properly. The last was an OEM branded belt at a premium... more
Cons: Low Quality, Not Durable, Eats Drive Belts

Just Ok
I bought this mower in 2010 and replaced it today (July 2014). First of all, you get what you pay for. If you have: less than an acre, flat surface, no rocks, no major bumps in your yard, and no holes, then this tractor will suit your needs. Especially if you take care of it. If you have anything other than the above, maintaining it will be a constant struggle. The deck will constantly need to be leveled. After two mows, I had to call Sears and tell them the deck was not level. The repairman... more

Worst Lawntractor Sears Sells
This tractor is a piece of junk. The motor is under powered and the gear box will lock up at will. In order to change the blades you need an air wrench to loosen the studs on the blades. My experience with Sears is to never buy a tractor made by American Yard Products..

Worst Tractor Ever
I purchased this is Oct 2011. Within a year the engine stopped running and was serviced in warranty. Then the transmission locked up took 3 days of tugging to free it up.

After 2 years and 8 months the front valve disengaged and now it burns oil like mad. I wouldn't get a tractor from Sears ever again.

Fliud Levels
I wanted to change the oil in my tractor, but could not fine out how much oil it takes. The manual does not give fluid levels.

I called the manufacturer's service line and talked to them, and they could not tell me. All they said was start out at 40 oz and check the dip stick. I have purchased Sears products for years. Sears was the first credit I got, but this is not the sears I'm used to. Too bad.

Never Again
Bought it a year ago, got warranty cause I knew I' wouldn't be gentle with it. Had it in the shop for past two weeks got it back and after about ten minutes of working I had to shut it off and went to restart it and bam! Won't start. Was expecting better seeing as it was a Craftsman. Will never buy another one again. Only thing worse then the tractor is the customer service... I mean minimum three calls just to get a distributor they recommend in your area and then crappy service from whomever... more

Scalps Lawn
This mower is good if you want to cut weeds in a open field and not a lawn that you want to look nice. I would like to know if wheels could be put on the deck to help it cut more even? The vibration leaves a lot to be desired will not buy another craftsman tractor.

Craftsman Lawn Mower 38" 6 Speed 2000
Eats drive belts, lost neutral, first gear and sixth gear 6 years old and barely made it last summer. Has good maintenance, grease, oil changes, filter changes, tire maintenance. Never, never again.

Good For The Money
Bought it for a second home. For the money I paid, $899, it works well. I've had no issues with the mower in 3 years.
