Q: Hi there, I am interested in buying a reel lawn mower and don’t know which one to buy. I live in South Florida (Miami). I don’t want to spend money on gas and I definitely don’t like fumes. A: Antonio - If you live in South Florida, chances are your lawn is a St. Augustine type of grass. And yes, this is some of the toughest grass to cut with a reel mower. If you have a thick grass like a St.Augustine, a Zoysia, or a Bermuda, you are going to need a heavier weight reel mower to plow through the thicker blades of grass, and that means it's going to be harder to push. I would recommend the Fiskers Momentum reel mower. Fiskars reel mower The Fiskars weighs more than a conventional reel mower, but the forward position of the reel and the versa-cut height adjustment will probably give you the best performance when it comes to managing thick grass like you have. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: I just put down empire zoysia grass and trying to purchase reel mower so I can cut grass at soccer field lengths. Can you recommend a couple that are best suited for that application. Thank you chris by Chris Loukas from Florida on May 15, 2011
A: This would be a good place to start, but with mowing as much grass as you have, I would suggest moving toward something bigger if you can. This will cut down on time. The Brill models are nice as well as the Husqvarna, but don't have anything larger than a 14". You could also look into a gang reel mower. This would allow you to get the job done faster, but also give you a good quality cut.
The Husqvarna mower is great. It took about one minute to assemble, does a perfect job, and can be used pretty much instantly. I gave my power mower away.
