Q: on this model, when you pull the self propelled bar, does the mower move forward on its own? does it go one speed or if you walk faster does it also go faster with you? I like the mowers that just go when you pull the bar. by Jack from Illinois on June 17, 2011
A: Jack - the Husqvarna HU800HW has an AutoWalk self-propelled drive system. With this system, you can mow at your own pace by simply squeezing the trigger on the handlebar. The drive system is a variable speed depending on how hard you squeeze the trigger. The mower will move forward based on the pressure you apply on the trigger, not based on how fast or slow you walk. This mower does NOT adjust to your walking speed - you are thinking of Toro's Personal Pace system. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Hello Both, spec sheet on your site and the Husqvarna site say the Cutting Options are 3-in-1 (Discharge/Bag/Mulch).
How would one engage Discharge option on this mower? (I can not find the owners manual online, probably due to this being a relatively new model)
Thanks. by Mike from West Virginia on May 13, 2011
A: Mike - in order to "side discharge" with this mower, you need an optional side discharge adapter. This adapter plugs into the rear chute in place of the grass bag and directs the grass clippings out to the left side at a 90 degree angle. This adapter typically sells for $15 to $20, but if you register your mower on line at Husqvarna.com, Husqvarna will send you one of these adapters free of charge. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: This may sound silly but when the grass comes out the rear of the mower does it get all over the person mowing? by Malorie from California on May 09, 2011
A: This will not happen if you have the bag on the unit or the mulch plug in the discharge in the back. If there is grass coming out the back, then you may want to check and see if you have the bag on correct or check to see if you have the mulch plug in if the bag is not on.

Q: Todd, how does this mower perform on tall, thick grass and weeds? Also, what's the advantage to having the larger rear tire size vs. the 8" on the HU700. Other than that the two mowers look identical. Is it worth the extra $30? by Rob from Kentucky on April 26, 2011
A: When using these mowers in thick grass and weeds, you can have a problem develop over time and the quality of cut. What will happen is the blade will become dull and you would have to get it sharpened pretty regularly.
In terms of the higher wheels, this is something a lot of manufacturers will do to make the actual use easier. The larger the wheels the easier it can be over some terrain. In some instances it can be worth the extra money, but it would depend, it is not an option most people would be concerned.

Q: Is the height of the pushing-handle adjustable? I am 6'4" and many mowers are too short for me. Any recommendations for tall mowers? by Cheech from Mississippi on April 22, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. The handle is not height adjustable, but this mower's handle would be at a comfortable level for someone of your height. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Does the mower come assembled? by Carol from California on April 03, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. The only assembly required is tightening the handle in the upright position and putting on the bagger. It is very easy and will only take a few minutes. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Is this a rear wheel drive or front wheel drive? by Tim from Kansas on March 18, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. This mower is rear wheel drive as listed in the specs on our site. by Todd, Product Expert

Mulch mowing
Starts easily, cleans easily, walks lawn easily, cuts clean, and holding up to my over 5000 square feet of up and down lawn. Mowed 3 times in a two week period. Live in a high desert area, cut the lawn on a 6 setting and water heavily every 4 days. Lawn has never been better.

Really like this mower so far
Had a top of line Honda and after 5 seasons the transmission went out. So I decided to try a Husky at a lot less cost. This HU700L Husqvarna is a well built machine with a strong Honda engine. Blade compartment is formed to maximize grass blade lift for even cutting. Much better than the Honda HRR21 where flimsy metal baffles were used to form the vortex.
Lawn looks great. Engine had plenty of power and mowed Bermuda grass from about 4 inches to 2.5 inch height without the slightest bog down. Engine RPM was really good and meant good cutting. The mulcher was so effective without the bag that only a small number of small grass piles were randomly left. Handle speed control was easy to regulate from a crawl to brisk walk mowing.
Additional nice feature is a hose fitting on the upper deck to clean the blade area. Mowers direct is a super fast shipper and good to deal with. Quick assembly. Only reason for the 4 star instead of 5 star is the transmission seems physically small on this machine, but with such a well built machine overall, I'm betting the transmission will be OK.

what's are you talking about
This mower is awesome, I'm so glad I bought it. Starts first pull EVERY time.
I'm 6'1", works great for me, height is no problem, etc.
I got the chute in less than three weeks after sending in card.
It does bog down when mulching with grass that is very long, the only time I experienced this was on lawn that had not been mowed for years, literally.
The self propelled power if very strong. The throttle can be kept exactly where you want it. Once you've used it for a while, you'll instinctively know when to give it a little more gas bc of a bump, hill, incline, etc. I guess you could say like driving a truck offroad. A machine that can be so well controlled is a sign of quality.

Needs discharge chute
The HU800HW mower was very easy to assemble, fill with oil & gas and start. The handle, contrary to what others are saying, IS adjustable height - there are 3 positions. Overall it performs about as I expected and appears to be built reasonably well.
Large rear wheels are great (or at least better than the small ones, depending on where you are trying to mow), and another feature this one gives over HU700L (same engine, small wheels) is the single-lever height adjustment. One complaint I do have that it arrives with no discharge chute. I never bag the grass cuttings. Why would anyone? And in mulching mode the mower simply chokes (we got lots of rain, and the grass is tall and thick). So, Husqvarna mails buyers free discharge chutes upon registration, but who knows when it arrives... In the meanwhile the mower is largely useless.

Regrets
This is the worst mower I've ever used. The motor is weak and bogs out. Even with the bag attached and dry grass this mower clogs up. Forget about using it as a mulcher. Very disappointing!!

The first few days have been bad!!
I have only used the mower twice but I'm thinking that I made a big mistake buying this one. I thought the discharge outlet would be shipped along with it. No, the only way to get one is to send in the registration sheet which is like writing your family history! Then they say it might take up to six weeks for processing! I don't like to use the bag and the mulcher is not easy to use on anything but very short grass. The design is such that to start the engine is hard unless you are about 6' 4" or better so you have enough arm length to pull the starter cord. Poor design. I tried to alter the speed at which it mows but the adjusting unit is hard to get to the right speed. If I get the mower slowed to where I want it when I pull on the forward lever it is OK but if I pull the lever for a little more speed it automatically takes off like it is doing the Indianapolis 500!
I sure hope this thing settles down and runs the way I think it should or it might be gone soon. Think twice before buying this mower!

Great mower. Does everything I thought it would. A true walk behind mower. Just need the rear mount side discharge attachment for it.
