Q: I was thinking about purchasing the Ariens LM 21. But I have a friend that just got one 2 weeks ago. The engine will start on up after 3 pushes of the primer and then die. If you push the primer one more time it will refire and after a minute or so smooth out and run great. He was told that it was because of the temps here in NY now in the mid 40’s and because it is brand new and will get better with use. It is the Kohler engine. Great Mower!
Great mower at a great price! Arrived in perfect condition, setup was a breeze. Started on the 2nd pull, ran great for 1st 10 minute run. NOTE: After a 15 minute shutdown, it didn't want to restart. While troubleshooting, I found the spark plug wire boot was only sitting on the end of the spark plug & wasn't seated properly. Re-seated the boot & the engine fired back up on the 1st pull. I checked the manuals, and there is no mention of the spark plug wire being removed for shipping - so I only mention this to help others who might experience the same problem. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG BUYING THIS MOWER!

Great Mower - not so sure about the shipping.
We've had the Husqvarna 7021 P for about two months now, and we're very happy with it. Starts easily, runs great, and cuts the lawn well. Only disappointment was with shipping. The box must have been turned during shipment, because the air filter was soaked with oil. This prevented air intake, and the mower would not start. Fortunately the owner's manual suggested a blocked air filter as a possible cause for the mower not to start. I removed the air filter to test this, and the mower immediately started. Found the right replacement filter at a local store, so this was only a minor setback.
But made me wonder if it might be smarter to ship the mower with the air filter not installed. Also, the front wheels must've suffered some stress during shipping, as they were not straight in line with the back wheels. The brackets holding the wheels to the mower deck were bent, resulting in front wheels which were "toe in" and not flat on the ground. We were able to bend them back so the mower now rolls smoothly. Other than those initial bumps in the road, we look forward to using this very solid lawnmower for a long time to come.

Husqvarna mower
It arrived in just a few days after the order was placed, there was nothing too assemble, only had to set the handle and hand tighten.
The mower size meets my requirements perfectly. Although I have never owned a Husqvarna mower, I have experience with their chain saws and they are one of the best pieces of equipment I ever owned. I trust the mower will be as reliable.

Recent purchase, the good: easy starting, smooth Honda engine, relatively lightweight, good mulching, bigger rear wheels make handling easier on uneven or hilly ground.
The bad: in mulching mode, clippings tend to blow over and settle on top of the deck creating quite a mess in just a few minutes of use..some even lodge in the gratings of the plastic engine cover so you might need to stop occasionally to clean out the mess. Steel deck is thinner gauge than other brands I've had, and the plastic wheel height adjustment handles look a bit flimsy, so long term durability of the deck is uncertain.

My first mower
I'm 60 years old and this is the first mower I've ever bought in my life. I've owned one before, but this new Husqvarna is a peach so far. A feature I would like the mower to have is a speed control. Starting is not as easy initally as I had hoped for. Much more dust is generated than my previous mower even when sided discharge is used. Dealing with moweres direct was excellent. I am well pleased with them.

Replacement for 21" Ryobi
The predecessor was purchased new in Mar 2002, and retired 3 weeks ago (May 2011) with this newbie. The old chassis rusted through at two places underneath the mount point of the B&S 6.5 HP engine, and a recent replacement of the bag and tune-up left it in great condition, despite its loss of structural integrity. Lad next door who welds took as a fix-it so someone will still get a good use of it once it's repaired.
The newbie is far fussier on choke and start, and idle-cut-off changes added for improved safety and environmental compliance. But its lightness was achieved by reliance upon a far less sturdy chassis, so my immediate concern it's lifetime will be significantly shortened when compared to the Ryobi.
Also, the blade seems to cut a swath that does not track to the right wheels, so getting complete coverage requires me to compensate by driving into the patch just cut. Merely following the ruts left by the right wheels will ensure that an uncut 1.5" strip is left behind when you finish each swath. I've not seen this trick in a mower to date, and I've used push mowers for 50 years.
Bags pretty well though, but getting it on and off requires a little more attention to keep the clippings from falling out of it when the bag is removed. Buying via Internet did not afford a chance to scope out this mower before taking delivery. So I'll have to reconsider this before replacing it, which I estimate will fall shortly after it's 2 year warranty ends.

Husqvarna mower
I pretty much knew what to expect with this mower. I have trashed 2 of Sears "best" high wheel mowers, using them as rock crushers at a previous property. I am going to use this mower to mow my cleared yard areas only 3 or 4 times a season to keep the growth down for fire safety. I am mowing close to two acres of nice flat rock free ground.
So, to get to this review- The mower arrived in just 4 days and was TOO easy to unpack and assemble, I put in the included oil and filled it with gas and it started on the first pull. I have only used it about an hour due to rain. It is everything I could wish for. I love the high rear wheels but have reservations about their longevity. My sears steel wire spoke high wheels broke after two summers. Granted I used it heavily. My current yard should be much easier on the mower.
So far I am very happy with the online purchase experience and the machine is great!

I wanted a cleaner, quieter CARB approved mower since I was fed up with the noisy, smelly 10 year old MTD Yard machine that I owned. This has the typical dinosaur B&S engine.
This Husqvarna 7021P was worth purchasing.
The modern Honda engine starts easily without priming 12 gallon of gas into the carburetor. It pushes amazingly easy which surprised me. The bearings in the wheels certainly do pay off.
I was concerned that the bag was 20% smaller than my old mower but this mower's bag design is better so that it ends up collecting about the same amount of clippings as my old mower with the larger bag.
All in all this was a worthwhile purchase. My first experience with Mowers Direct is a big thumbs up.

Error in Manual
Great engine. Great Cut. Wheels look a little cheap, wonder how they will hold up.
No throttle control. One speed fits all. Maybe that is normal these days.
Note there is some conflicting information in the two manuals included:
Mower Manual states to check the oil with the cap screwed in.
Engine manual states to check the oil without screwing in the cap.
First method leaves the tank half full.
Mower Manual has first oil change at 50 hours.
Engine Manual has first oil change at 5 hours.

This is a good lawn mower. The Honda engine starts on the first pull and it cuts quite nicely. Good value and good performance.
Lastly, I've started mowing yards (big and small) as a side job and I keep this mower on my trailer for trimming hard to reach areas, and for back yards that are too small for my commercial walk-behind.

This looks like a well built mower out of the box. But after adding oil and gas and starting to mow, it sputtered after about thirty feet.
Fresh gas, correct amount of oil, but doesn't run. I've been holding on Husqvarna's technical support line for about fifteen minutes so far, and Mowers Direct doesn't allow returns once you've tried to use a mower. Make that twenty minutes.
MD RESPONDS: It is Federal Law that prohibits shipment of a motor once it's had gasoline in it; that's why we only carry brands with Factory Warranties and good, national support networks.
Just to make sure you have the correct number for Husqvarna Tech Support, it's 800-448-7543. You have other alternatives, as well.
Page 14 of the Owner's Manual lists 12 things to check if the unit does not start. The Manual is available for download on our website if it didn't come in the box.
If that doesn't work, at the bottom of our web site there is a Customer Service button. Just click it, and select Service Centers. Then click on the Husqvarna link to find the Authorized Service centers in your area.
There are 5 Servicing Dealers in the Ft. Worth area; please check the map to choose the ones closest to you. Any of them are required to honor the 2 year Factory Warranty that comes with your mower. We always suggest calling before you go in order to find the facility with the shortest turn-around time.
