Q: Why does Honda's Residential Mowers have a bigger engine than the Commercial Mowers??? I've got a 217HRX now. Would the Commercial 160cc engine dissapoint me? by Mark Janzen from Oklahoma on July 25, 2011
A: Mark - while the engine on the Honda HRC216HXA mower is only 160cc, this engine is a commercial grade engine. Your 217HRX has a 190cc residential grade engine. Big difference! Some of the features on the commercial grade engine are: better fuel economy; precision camshaft design for more precise valve timing; ball bearing supported crankshaft; exceptionally quiet; outstanding reliability and easy starting. This mower will have plenty of power for whatever mowing you need to do. This mower will not disappoint.
Q: Is the 160cc motor on the HRR series the same as on the HRC by Dave from Nebraska on May 28, 2011
A: Dave - no, the engines on the HRR series Honda mowers is not the same engine as found on the HRC mower. Both engines are rated at 160cc. But the HRC mower features a commercial grade Honda GXV series engine, while the HRR series mower feature a Honda GCV series engine. The HRC mower is rated as a commercial grade mower, while the HRR series mowers are considered to be residential grade. by Jose, Product Expert
Q: Is the HRC series the only Honda with pressurized lubrication for mowing very hilly lawn by Fran Kempf from Minnesota on May 20, 2011
A: Fran - not sure who told you this mower has a pressurized lubrication system, but it doesn't. This mower uses the Honda GXV160 engine, which is an overhead valve engine with a higher compression ratio for more power and better fuel economy, but the GXV160 engine has a "splash" lubrication system, just like all the other Honda lawn mowers. by Jose, Product Expert
Q: Taking care of three properties of my own and sometimes a fourth....should I go to a commercial mower? Possibly the Honda HRC? by Rod Allen from Idaho on April 23, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. If you are caring for that many properties at a high frequency the HRC would be your best option. by Jose, Product Expert
Q: What is your #1 recommendation for a self propelled mower?
What does Recycler mean?
by Gary from Mississippi on March 09, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. My recommendation for a self propelled lawn mower would be a Honda HRC216K3HXA. The easy starting, reliability, and low noise level of the Honda GXV engine sets this model apart from other self propelled mowers. See link below.
To answer your question about the term Recycler. Toro uses the term "Recycler" in reference to their cutting system. The Recycler cutting system minces grass clippings into fine mulch particles for a healthy, beautiful lawn thanks to the Toro-patented atomic blade.
I just got it and cannot speak for how it will last in the long run, but it is made like a brick c**p house. It runs great and starts easy.
It mulches the leaves so that you can mow and rake at the same time. Great mower!!

Lawn Service
As a start-up business I owned the top of the line residential Honda mower purchased from a big box store. As the number of lawns increased I realized the need for a commercial mower. Mowers Direct offered the best price. Trusting my experience with Honda I ordered another Honda.
I've no doubt that this mower will serve me well but, I was disappointed in several ways. The mower has a "plastic insert" in the rear eject for mulching. The residential mower did not require this and had a simple bag catcher on, or bag catcher off, for mulching. While the gas tank is a little larger than a residential mower it could have been twice again its size. The throttle control came set too low.
The mower was much heavier and required some getting used to, but that was expected. For this reason it would have been better had the front wheels been able to spin for the turns.
Given the investment I will use the mower, but will choose more wisely in the future.

Top Of The Line
After receiving my mower July 17 today was my first chance I had to use it. I had assembled it and filled it with oil and gas. I read the starting instructions and pulled and pulled. It would not start. I reread the instructions. I pulled and pulled. It still would not start. As I was checking the fuel shut off again I noticed the spark plug wire was not connected to the plug. I guessed they send them this way for safty reasons???????
Anyway it fired up in a third of a pull and I was off and mowing. Having owned my last Honda for 21 years with no problems I gave my old one to my son-in-law, I'm sure this one will last me the rest of my life. I'm 68 The HRC is a first class mower. The lawn has never looked so good as it did a fine cutting job. I love the hydrostatic drive. My last Honda was a three speed.

Honda Commercial Mower A+
I bought this mower to replace a 21 year hold Honda, the first model with the Hydrostatic transmission (the top of the line model in 1991). That mower still started on the first pull every time, but several parts (wheels, suspension, bag, etc.) were in need of replacement. This one feels sturdier and I'm confident it will last 20 years. Yes, it's pricey, but if you factor in the reliability, durability, and high quality feel, it is worth it. I briefly considered the top of the line consumer model (HRX217HYA), but the parts on it look and feel cheap, and the transmission is belt-driven.
I had never had a mulching mower before and this one chops up the grass clippings into very fine pieces, even when it's damp. No more bagging for me!
The buying experience was wonderful. Mowers Direct told me it would arrive in 3-4 business days and it did. It was delivered right to the end of my driveway. (I did not opt for the $50 Lift Gate Service.) It took about an hour of assembly time using the easy-to-follow instructions. I did have to buy and add some oil before I could start it up. I'm extremely pleased with it so far.
I highly recommend both Mowers Direct and the Honda HRC216K3HXA.

Great Mower Becomes Even Better With Side Discharge Chute
I purchased this mower for use on Idaho irrigated lawns-- mostly Kentucky Bluegrass. I was disappointed at first while mulching when I could only go a few feet and then would have to lift the deck up in order to let it blow out the grass that would get stuck and ultimately cause the engine to kill. When I saw the small size of the clippings that were coming out of the mower, I decided to try the side discharge chute. That has made all the difference! With the side discharge chute, I have yet to see grass that is too tall, too wet, or too thick. It cuts through everything. Only downside is the clippings are not as small as they would otherwise be. For my cutting, this is not a problem.
Definitely recommended with side discharge chute.

My New Honda
Best lawn mower I've ever owned. The mower mulches so well that I don't know if I'll ever have to bag my clipping's again! Highly recommend!

Awesome Mower!
I love my new Honda HRC216K3HXA mower. Ordering experience was great, especially the advice I received when I emailed Mowers Direct. I priced the mower locally and found Mowers Direct price to be about 10% cheaper, plus I didn't have to pay sales tax so I saved almost 18% over purchasing local. The only glitch was having to wait for shipping which actually only took 5 business days, however, the shipping company damaged the first mower so I followed the instructions on Mowers Direct website and they accepted my return and sent a replacement mower without much problem.
The mower itself is great! I have 50+ year old thick Bermuda grass that constantly bogged down my Craftsman 6.75 HP push mower, and required between 10 to 12 times of bag clippings to dispose of, as well as "re-mowing" certain areas due to poor cut. This Honda has cut my yard now 4 times without any instances of the mower bogging down (power galore!), and I only have 1 and a half to 2 bags of clippings to empty for my full yard (1/2 acre). The self-propelled function is great and doesn't take from the overall power of the mower (I was suspicious of losing power never owning a self-propelled mower before).
No regrets at all, only need several years of durability to provide complete purchase satisfaction!
PROs: Power, easy start (1st pull out of box), quiet (shockingly more quiet than my old mower), self-propelled pacing, durable - feels like a tank, bag capacity, beautiful cut, anticipated long-life, buying/shipping experience, price (versus local purchase).
CONs: Price (but you get what you pay for!), weight (weighs 120 lbs) so it can be difficult to maneuver without self-propelling engaged or trying to lift into truck/trailer.
I was leery of spending this kind of money for a mower, never spending more that $350 on one in the past, but I wanted one that would last for many many years with high performance. I truly believe I have found that mower! Buy with confidence!

The Backbone To My Business
This mower is the real deal. It's powerful and can climb hilly terrain like nothing. The mower is very heavy so if you're not paying attention you will be taken for a ride. The suction cleans lawns when I bag. The final results are professional and clean. You will notice the difference between a $1200 mower and a residential mower for $400. This is the real deal.

Solid And Quiet
Assembly:
The Honda HRC216K3HXA mower was delivered flawlessly by freight to my garage in the original packed-by-Honda box. The mower comes mostly assembled. As I recall the extra handlebar support needed to be bolted on, the grass bag assembled, spark plug cap put on, oil and gas added and it was ready to go. The instructions are good enough to minimize thinking too much.
Use:
Pros:
1. Started easily.
2. Amazingly quiet, I remember wondering if it was really running.
3. Solid as a rock feel with no play in the handles. or clumsiness in the wheels.
4. The separate controls for engine, motion and blades is a favorite feature. I can stop to pickup junk without turning the motor off and use the self propelled feature without engaging the blades for great safety and laziness.
5. The blade and movement controls are "push" levers which helps reduce hand fatigue.
6. The movement level can be operated with just a thumb making waving in tight areas a breeze.
7. Very strong self propulsion. It moves with force and could pull the user around in some situations.
Cons:
1. It is a little on the heavy side, but in a good way. It feels like a tank.
I would recommend.
