Q: I'm interested in a corded electric mower, but the area I want it for is 200 feet away. Will there be a problem with using a 200' extension cord? I don't want the extra expense of cordless, because the area is so small (6' x 60'), and I use a riding mower for the rest of the lawn. by S Sears from Pennsylvania on March 21, 2012
A: Shannon - in order to draw enough amps to power this mower at a distance of 200 feet, you will need to use either 10-gauge or 12-gauge heavy duty outdoor cords. A standard 14 or 16 gauge outdoor cord will not work at this kind of distance. by Todd, Product Expert

Greenworks Mower
This is my first electric mower, after the wife insisted that we go green and cut down on the emissions. I looked into battery powered ones, but they seem to be a few years away from cost and performance optimization. So far, the mower has been great, with the major issue being me trying to figure put how best to mow the yard without interference from the cord.
The power is there, and it's quiet and easy to clean. I won't go back to gas (and not just because she won't let me) as I like the impact the mower has on the environment as well as the job it's doing. Definitely recommend.

Do it MYSELF
Okay, I am the grey-haired lady down the street. My late husband rode his Snapper for years, but I just can't master the oil, gas, year-end flush, etc. So now that I have to do my yard I got the idea to get an electric mower...being the tech savvy old girl I am, I looked online, read reviews and here I am with a GreenWorks. (Ruled out B&D-all plastic).
GreenWorks offers metal and other specs, like big back wheels, easy raise/lower, 21" cut and 13 amp. Easy-start and cord management are terrific. I use the catcher without a problem.
I ordered from Mowers Direct because all the stores in 50 miles of my house did NOT carry this mower, so I thought I order shoes, tech gadgets, so why not a lawnmower?. MD was super quick! 2 1/2 days after i placed order, FedEx was dropping it off and I used it within 30 minutes. Yes I put the handles "up", read the manual, setup the cord, and rolled it out! Look mom, no man!
Did I mention no lugging gas cans, no roar?
So far after 3 uses, this is MY ANSWER.

I did quite a bit of research before I decided to make the switch from a gasoline powered to an electric powered mower. I knew the advantages and the negatives before made the purchase.
This particular model featured the widest cut (21in.) and the most powerful motor (13 amp) I could find. I was also swayed by the 4 year warranty.
I purchased the mower online on a Saturday from Mowers Direct. It was supposed be be shipped direct from the factory. Amazon was $20 cheaper but my grass was already growing and my old mower was kaput. I needed it in a hurry. I was not willing to wait the 3-6 weeks Amazon had advertized.
The mower was shipped on Monday and arrived at my front door on the following Thursday. I was happy about that. The $20 extra was well worth it.
The box contained all the items listed in the owners manual. No missing parts.
I carefully read all the instructions. I also walked my yard looking for any hidden obstructions since the grass was a little high.
My first mowing experience went very well. This particular mower was lightweight and with the large back wheels it was easy to maneuver. I did not have any problem with the mower cutting unevenly but I also was respectful of the fact that I was dealing with an electric mower. When the motor began to struggle just a bit in really heavy grass I slowed down.
The main thing I like about this mower after using it one time is that I can stop and start it without pulling a rope. That is awesome.
It did the job with less effort and I had no problem with the cord. It is a 50 ft. 12 amp cord so it is quite thick but the few times it got in my way I simply stopped the mower, moved the cord and restarted the mower.
I am not going to miss trips to the gas station or storing gasoline in my garage.
So far so good with this mower. If I have any problems I will update this review.
