Q: Hi there, I am interested in buying a reel lawn mower and don’t know which one to buy. I live in South Florida (Miami). I don’t want to spend money on gas and I definitely don’t like fumes. I heard our grass down here is difficult to cut with reel lawnmowers and wanted to know which one you would recommend. Thanks again.
by Antonio from Florida on June 10, 2011
A: Antonio - If you live in South Florida, chances are your lawn is a St. Augustine type of grass. And yes, this is some of the toughest grass to cut with a reel mower. If you have a thick grass like a St.Augustine, a Zoysia, or a Bermuda, you are going to need a heavier weight reel mower to plow through the thicker blades of grass, and that means it's going to be harder to push. I would recommend the Fiskers Momentum reel mower. Fiskars reel mower The Fiskars weighs more than a conventional reel mower, but the forward position of the reel and the versa-cut height adjustment will probably give you the best performance when it comes to managing thick grass like you have. by Todd, Product Expert

Q: Does this mower work well on tall grass?
by Andy from California on May 28, 2011
A: Andy - reel mowers are really designed to cut grass that is less than 3 inches tall. Since you are providing the "horsepower" for a reel mower, you will find it more difficult to mow tall or thick grass. by Todd, Product Expert

Q: In what country are the Greenworks reel mowers made?
by Nancy from Pennsylvania on May 25, 2011
A: Nancy - the Greenworks reel mowers are manufactured in China. by Todd, Product Expert

Q: I have a small front and back yard and I've been contemplating getting this kind of mower over a gas mower. Do these things really cut grass as well as any other mower and how often do you have to sharpen the blades?
by Mary Zepeda from Oklahoma on May 01, 2011
A: As long as you keep the blades sharpened, these can cut just as good as other mowers. It can be tough if you have Bermuda grass, because it grows in tangles, but for a regular grass, this is not too bad.
Sharpening blades is something to be done pretty often, but it also depends on how often you need to mow as well.
Thanks,
