Q: Why do you rate the Brill 38 15" mower higher than you rate the 13" model? I think I would prefer the smaller one if the internal workings are identical. by Susan Metzger from Colorado on March 24, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. We rate the 15 inch higher than the 13 inch because the extended width of the mower reduces the time you spend mowing. by Todd, Product Expert

Just when I was starting to like it....
I ordered a Brill Razorcut 38 and am now thinking I need something a bit heavier-duty. While assembling it, I broke a plastic bracket on the handle just tightening it up, and had to improvise with some stainless steel washers. Once I began using the mower, I was impressed by how little effort it required, and was really beginning to like it, when I hit a small stick and the left wheel locked up.
It's normal to get yard debris caught between the blades. However, on my mower, it seems as if the clutch assembly in the left wheel completely fell apart and won't let the wheel turn more than half a revolution. I could not even access the mechanical workings, as they are snapped into a plastic shroud that, to the best of my ability, I could not remove without destroying.
I am back on the market, looking for a product that is far more durable and utilizes more steel than plastic in its construction.

I did a lot of research on mowers and decided to go with the Brill. The quality seems to be very good. I like it because it is light weight and is super easy to push across the yard. The assembly is very easy and I was out of the box and cutting in about 15 minutes. The one thing to remember about this type of mower is that little sticks aren't your friends. Although I have the mower set a little high and it hasn't been a huge deal so far however, I would blow or rake the yard before the cutting process. Mower is very quiet and is just about a no brainer if you have a small yard. I'm probably going to add the grass catcher, just to clean up the clippings a little. Although this isn't really necessary I'd like to own the attachment for compost.

Very happy with this mower so far!
This Brill mower arrived on time from Mowers Direct. The box was slightly dented/torn, but the mower inside was in perfect shape, 100%.
The instructions for assembly are a little funny (I think they were translated from German or something) but the mower was easy to put together, and light enough for me to lift and carry from the garage to the yard.
This is a simple, sturdy mower. I started with the "20" mower height, but quickly adjusted to a higher level ("35"). The reason for this is that I have a Royal Poinciana tree in the backyard and it sends down all sorts of little twigs and spines. The higher setting seemed to help me avoid these a bit.
The mower pushes very easily, and is simple to operate. It is fairly quiet as well---certainly tons quieter than a gasoline mower!
One drawback to a push mower, which I anticipate would be the same for ANY push mower, is that sticks and twigs get caught in the blades, which jams up the works. Often, backing up a pace or two with the mower would knock out the offending twig. Otherwise, you have to bend down and pick it out from the blades. I started doing more prep work once I realized this, and picked upraked the twigs and sticks rather than trying to mow over them.
Another minor point is that I thought from the description that the mower mowed when pulled, but it's apparently only "in drive" when being pushed. Not a big deal, just different from my expectation.
Overall, while I have only mowed one time, I highly recommend this mower to anyone who wants to cut down on noise and petroleum consumption. It was enjoyable mowing with this mower.
I am not regretting the fact that I have cancelled my lawn service! I am satisfied having purchased this more expensive model --- although I have never used other models, this one seems to work very nicely and the quality engineering is evident.

Great Mower
I've only had to mow twice this season, but it is much easier with this mower. It just glides across the lawn with very little effort on my part.
I put it on the lowest setting yesterday- it was a little more resistant to push, but my lawn looks like a golf course green!
