Q: Todd, if i buy this mower and something goes wrong within the 3 year warranty, how would i get it fixed? by Joe from Connecticut on June 26, 2011
A: Joe - any needed warranty service would be provided by your local Ariens dealer. We have a link on our web site under customer service that would allow you to look up the closest Ariens service centers using your zip code. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: the ariens zero turn mowers, do they have snow blowers available? and if so are they easy to mount? just trying to cut back on the number of gas engines to maintain. thanks Troy by Troy Donth from Minnesota on June 11, 2011
A: Troy - Ariens does make a snow blower attachment that mounts to the front of their zero turn mowers. I would say the installation is moderate in terms of ease. We don't stock the snow blower attachment, but we would be able to special order it for you if you decide you want one. To be honest, the snow blower attachment is not a big seller, mostly because of the handling and traction of a zero turn mower on snow and ice. Give us a call if you want to find out more about the Ariens snow blower attachment for their zero turn mowers. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: Todd,
Thinking about buying one of these, just wondering who services them in central Ohio and what kind of warranty comes with it?
Thanks. by Fred Millington from Ohio on May 11, 2011
A: This unit is going to come with a 3 year warranty, 1 year commercial. The deck will have a 5 year warranty.
In terms of service, any local Ariens service center can do service on this unit. If you can email us a zip code, we can do a search and find out what servicing dealers would be in your area.
Q: Hi Todd, what kind of hydraulic fluid does the Ariens 60inch cut zero turn mower use and where can I get it? by Missy Hayes from North Carolina on May 07, 2011
A: Missy - The hydraulic fluid used in the Ariens MaxZoom 60-inch zero turn mower is a 20W-50 engine oil with an SL-API classification. You should be able to find this at any auto parts store. Ariens recommends changing the hydraulic fluid after the first 75 hours of mower use, and then about every 400 hours after that. by Todd, Product Expert
Q: If I purchase the Ariens MaxZoom60, is it delivered ready to go or is there assembly etc that needs to be done? by Jeff from Iowa on April 26, 2011
A: This model is going to be pretty much ready to go. The seat will need to be attached along with battery cables and the steering levers will be folded down, but this is all simple and would not take long and is for shipping reasons.
Q: Do any of the nicer semi-pro or mid-grade zero turn mowers allow their mower decks to be removed in order to service the blades? If not, what is the best method to get to the blades so they can be removed and the underdecking can be cleaned?
Also, I have a somewhat hilly area to mow. Can most of the larger zero turn mowers handle hillier terrain without risking flipping over? by Dave from Maryland on March 19, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. The mower decks are removable. You should consult your owner's manual or the manufacturer directly before doing so. Another method would be to jack the mower up far enough to remove the blades. Most larger zero turns will handle hills no problem. by Todd, Product Expert
The Ariens MaxZoom 60 is a high-performance zero-turn mower that provides excellent performance, value and durability. Tough enough for light-duty commercial use yet affordable enough for homeowners, the Ariens MaxZoom 60 is ideal for small business owners or residential users with large yards.
Powered by a 25HP Kohler Courage V-Twin engine, the Ariens MaxZoom 60 has plenty of kick and moves along at a speedy 8 mph, which is pretty fast considering the large cutting deck. The 60-inch, 10-gauge welded steel deck features a 5" commercial depth deck shell for cutting in tough conditions and three blades so you get a full width cut on every pass. The anti-scalping wheels and the suspension on the mower deck do an excellent job on rough terrain and hills.
The Ariens MaxZoom 60 is also a very responsive machine. Controls are tight and smooth, even on surfaces that bounce the machine around. A well-padded seat with armrests adds to the comfort of the ride.
Overall, the Ariens MaxZoom 60 is a complete zero-turn mower – powerful, efficient, sturdy and smooth. It is a blast to ride and is well suited for all mowing conditions, though using it on a lawn of less than 2 acres may seem like overkill. Regardless, the Ariens MaxZoom 60 lets you bring professional quality home at an affordable price.

Time in the saddle
I cut about 4-6 of 18 acres regularly. I choose the 60" wide deck knowing that some features in my yard would be tough to cut with a deck this wide, but that the wide open stuff would go more quickly. Up to this point I have used a garden tractor with a 46" deck and had no experience driving a zero turn mower.
The Ariens is surprisingly nimble for an 800 lb plus machine with a 330 lb plus 6' 3"operator, however I would be surprised if the mower really does go 8 mph. It seems a bit slower than that to me and it seems that this mower could handle a bit more speed in wide open cutting. It took about 6 hours for me to get fairly skilled in operating this zero turn mower and I am still learning how to use the machine more efficiently. Zero turn mowers I think in general require more attention from the operator because they really can get off your intended line quickly if you are day dreaming. This mower in particular requires increased attention because it has a wide deck and requires the operator to be careful not to strike items that he intends to bypass.
Now that I am comfortable with this mower I can complete the mowing in about 2 hours when it had taken about 5 and a half.
The biggest surprise to me was how rigid the mower frame is. I can get one of the front caster wheels on a patio paver (about 2 inches higher than the ground) and loose traction in one of the rear wheels as the frame rocks. One of the rear wheels comes off of the ground like a four legged chair rocking back and forth on the floor when one leg is too short. I can see why some (a few) mower designs have a front end designed to optionally pivot or lock. Not sure how practical this feature would be with a 60" deck, but a little pivot in the front end might help rear wheel traction. I will also try lowering pressure in the tires (they are currently inflated on the maximum end of the recommended tire pressure) to see if I can increase the tire contact patch flexibility. The ride is not harsh (to me) even with the max tire pressure.
I bought this mower because it has many commercial components such as the ZT 3100 hydro-gear pumps and combined drive motors (no pesky hydraulic hoses to break), a heavy frame, flip up foot tray, welded mower deck, cast iron spindles housings with sealed ball bearings and 1" steel spindle shafts. It also has a mid-grade (between homeowner and full commercial grade) Kawasaki FR engine, which is a real nice surprise for the money. This mower is the best value for the money I found in two years of looking.
I also like to cut at night in NC when the temps are cooler and added a light kit I bought from an auto parts store. It came with a wiring harness, a switch and fuse. The halogen lights do the job. I made a mounting panel for the switch and put it on the left side behind the drink holder located on one of the two tanks which hold a combined 7 plus gallons of useable gas volume.
I have about 8 hours on the machine and have cut my property 4 times. I like to mow for about 3 hours at a time and this mower leaves me wanting more rather than praying for the job to be over with 2 and a half hours left to finish the job, as was the case with my previous garden tractor type mower. The Ariens Max Zoom is sized for an adult man to be comfortable and has an adjustable seat and controls for smaller humans as well. This Ariens mower does a very good job at what it is designed to do: Cut a large amount of grass in a short amount of time year after year for a reasonable price. That to me is just what I needed.

Christmas in June
I'm just like a kid at Christmas, I can't get enough of my Ariens. It handles well on all terrains, cuts with ease, and reduces the cutting time in half. Excellent purchase, and I am well pleased.

small wheels
Rear wheels need to be larger. They spin because they are too small.
