Q: I am looking into purchasing an edger. Can you tell me the difference between the following:
Ariens 986101 / 986103

A: Thanks for your inquiry. This model 986101 is an older model and has been discontinued. The 986103 is just the new version. The difference between the two is that the 986101 had a Subaru engine and the 986103 is equipped with an LCT engine. The Subaru is a better quality engine, but the LCT engine on the 986103 is a good performing engine for an edger and will give you the quality you are looking for.

 "You get what you pay for"

I just purchased this machine and have used for the 1st time. What a great machine for my application- which
consists of about 500-550 linear feet of edging.

The unit is easy to start with a manual choke and adjustable throttle, and the safety bar vs. cutter blade rotation feature is great in that you can shut off the blade rotation without having to shut down the engine.

There are too many great features to talk about, and the only thing I regret about purchasing this Ariens unit
is that I waited this long.
