  10 Questions
Q: Is there any set up upon delivery, or do i just "drive" it out of the box?

by Jeff from Ohio on July 10, 2011

A: Jeff - there is really no "assembly" required on the Ariens AMP riding mower. But you won't be able to "drive" it out of the shipping crate. You will need to connect and charge the batteries overnight, and you may or may not need to level the mower deck. But otherwise, this mower requires no other preparation before you begin mowing with it.

Q: What is the recharge time with the quick charger? (from full discharge point on the meter)
Is it ok to leave the quick charger on at all times like the regular charger?
Would you recommend the quick charger for those with larger lawns?

by John from Michigan on June 29, 2011

A: John - the quick charger will fully charge the batteries in 5 hours or less. This is only after the initial charge of the batteries - the quick charger will not charge the batteries any faster on the initial charge. Yes, the quick charger can be left on the AMP mower at all times - that is actually recommended in the owner's manual. The AMP mower will handle about 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 acres on a full charge, depending on terrain and landscaping. If your lot is larger than 1-1/4 acres, you might want to consider a quick charger if you want to finish your mowing all in the same day.

Q: Todd, if i buy this mower and something goes wrong within the 3 year warranty, how would i get it fixed?
by Joe from Connecticut on June 26, 2011

A: Joe - any needed warranty service would be provided by your local Ariens dealer. We have a link on our web site under customer service that would allow you to look up the closest Ariens service centers using your zip code.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: I was curious if this had a hitch on the back so you can pull a small dump cart. I had a Recharge Mower that died on me and want to replace it with this but need the ability to haul dirt and what not.
by Justin from New York on June 02, 2011

A: Justin - the Ariens AMP mower does not have a hitch on the back, and there is no hitch offered as an accessory for this model. This model is not designed to tow a cart or other attachments. This is strictly a riding lawn mower.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: What is the replacement price for the battery(s)? Is there a warrantee on the batteries?
by Bob McSweeney from Texas on May 29, 2011

A: Bob - the Ariens AMP electric mower uses a set of 5 rechargeable batteries to power the mower. The batteries carry a two year manufacturer's warranty, and can last up to five or six years with proper use and storage. Each cell (battery) will run you about $130 to $150 each to replace when that becomes necessary.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Do you have to keep it plugged into the charger when not in use?
by Anonymous on May 23, 2011

A: Ariens recommends that you keep the AMP mower plugged in to the charger, and the charger plugged into an electrical outlet, at all times when not in use. The charger will charge the battery until it's fully charged, then go into a hibernation mode. If the mower is not used for an extended period of time, and the battery starts to drain down, the charger comes out of hibernation and charges the batteries of the AMP back to full strength. Believe it or not, your batteries will actually last LONGER if you leave your AMP mower plugged in and charging at all times when not in use.

Q: Is Ariens discontinuing this model?
by Marje from Illinois on May 22, 2011

A: Marje - Ariens is not discontinuing the AMP riding mower as far as we know. Ariens did lower the suggested retail price for 2011 to make this item more affordable.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Does this have a mulching option?
by Damon from Massachusetts on May 16, 2011

A: This unit does have a mulching option - it would be a part number 71600300.

Thanks,

Q: What are the batteries made from?
Where do they go after 200 hours? Recycling? Landfills?

by Roger from Massachusetts on May 10, 2011

A: These are going to be lead acid batteries, so you should have them go to recycling so they can deal with and dispose correctly.

Thanks,

Q: What gate opening size can I get this thing through?
by William Waters from Colorado on April 03, 2011

A: Thanks for your inquiry. This mower could fit through a gate 38 inches wide or more. The discharge chute does flip up to allow more clearance.

How To Quietly Cut Your Grass
When I was a kid, my next door neighboor always cut his grass at the worst time of the week -- during Saturday morning cartoons.

I'd shut the windows and crank up the volume, but the noise- and air-polluting lawn mowers still drowned out Scooby Doo.

To make matters worse, my neighbor was older and slower. It took him 2-3 times longer to cut his lawn.

I'd always missing the fantastic finish... if it weren't for those meddling kids.

Zoinks!

Now, imagine if my neighboor had an... more

Totally Unreliable In Every Way
I have a 22,000 sf lawn, about 40 minutes worth, supposedly.

Purchased from Mowers Direct in September 2010 for all the right reasons. On first use the Amp riding mower wouldn't operate for more than a few seconds at a time, so it immediately went into the warranty-servicer. After much dickering with Amp/Ariens and the intervention of Mowers Direct, Amp/Ariens agreed that the servicer should replace the 5-pack batteries and charger, which had to come from Wisconsin to Florida and took two... more

Exactly As Advertised
Last weekend, mid-job, the left hydrostatic drive on my Cub i1046 died. I went looking for a new mower, and the Amp caught my eye. I hate hauling gas cans in my car, and I am not fond of $4 gas either. A lack of belts and a quieter mower sounded good too.

On Wednesday, I had decided. I checked Mowers Direct, they had one in stock. I ordered it via the website, and I got it the next day. Wow. Plugged it in overnight, and let it charge the required 16 hours for the first charge.

My lawn is... more

Thank You Ariens
If one isn't able to "think" beyond their box, they probably don't get how great an advance this is.

I doubt the guy from NJ actually got to try one out, or at least shouldn't have compared it to an actual lawn tractor.

I have an acre+ and this electric mower does a great job on a single charge.

Prior to this unit I ran a Black & Decker cordless push mower and did my lawn in sections, as it's 19" path didn't cover as much in an hour to 90 minuntes which is what I averaged per charge.

Electric Slide
Save your money- this is a gutless wonder.

I got to try one out. Even on a flat lawn it has barely enough power to get out of it's own way. What you think you will save in fuel will be more than made up in your time.

Nice idea, but bad implementation.
